Ever since Amazon's Big Deals Day ended, our team have had their attention on the biggest retail event of the year: Black Friday. And while this might seem overeager, I'm sure the savvy shoppers among you are also preparing for next week's big sale extravaganza.

Of course, I know - as does everyone else these days - that Black Friday isn't just the one day anymore. In fact, we've seen the likes of John Lewis, Argos and Lakeland release Black Friday deals from the start of November. Boots have also released early deals ahead of Black Friday, happening on Friday 29th November this year.

What is Black Friday?

Black Friday, a globally celebrated annual shopping extravaganza, takes place on the day immediately following Thanksgiving in the United States, which lands on the fourth Thursday of November every year. This remarkable retail event serves as the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season, and is renowned for huge discounts and promotions available across a multitude of retailers, both on- and offline.

The term ‘Black Friday’ is believed to have originated in the 1960s, when it was coined to describe the intense and often chaotic pedestrian and vehicular traffic that ensued after Thanksgiving.

More recently, the retail event has become a global phenomenon, extending its reach to encompass a three-day shopping bonanza - with brands stretching their sales across the entire weekend until Cyber Monday.

When is Black Friday 2024?

This year’s Black Friday falls on Friday 20th November 2024, right after the Thanksgiving celebration in the United States.

What is Cyber Monday 2024?

This year, Cyber Monday is scheduled to take place on Monday 2nd December 2024. It’s the digital shopping event that follows the Black Friday frenzy, with a primary focus on online shopping deals.

On Cyber Monday, brands like Boots and John Lewis roll out more substantial discounts and enticing promotions across a wide array of products. It’s the perfect chance for online shoppers to score more fantastic deals, all from the comfort of their homes or workplaces.
