What Mumsnet users say

"I have the Vileda 1-2-spray mop and it’s grand...does the job!" -  Recommended by Mumsnetter ChittyChittyBoomBoom

“I love my little spray mop, they're so much less hassle than a bucket (and I use a dry head to dry the floor extra quick, can do whole of downstairs and have it dry in about 20 minutes).” Recommended by Mumsnet user BillywigSting

Our verdict

If you are fed up with lugging a bulky bucket around with you when you mop, or if you just want to free up some cupboard space, then the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop is here to answer your prayers.

Easy to set up, use and store, this mop is perfect for daily mopping and for cleaning up any spillages as they happen - just grab it and go!

The water is stored in the handle and the 1-2 Spray Mop only has a capacity of 250ml, so it’s perhaps more suited to smaller living spaces. But that said, it is not difficult to refill.

It’s easy to see why Mumsnetters vow never to return to a mop and bucket set after using the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop and it has totally earned its place on our best floor mops round-up.

What’s in the box?

vileda-1-2-spray-review.jpg
  • Handle

  • Floor head

How does it feel to hold?

The smooth plastic handle feels comfortable to hold. The trigger on the handle is easy to operate and feels much more intuitive than the foot pump on the Henry Spray Mop. At 48”, the handle feels a good length for someone my height (5tf4) but it’s worth noting the Vileda 1-2 Spray does not have a telescopic handle, so it can’t be adjusted.

What is the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop like to assemble?

The setting up process was quite easy, as it is essentially a two-piece jigsaw. However, everything felt just a little bit stiff, so it took a little bit of jiggling to get the whole thing clicked into place. It also took several pumps for the spray to start producing water.

What’s the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop like to use day-to-day?

vileda-1-2-spray-review-(2).jpg

The Vileda 1-2 Spray is so-called because it refines the mopping process into two simple steps - filling the tank and spraying the water. For step one, all I had to do was remove the stopper at the top of the handle before adding up to 250ml of water. The manufacturer says the 1-2 Spray can be used with just water, or you can add Vileda’s own Active Cleaner or the floor cleaner of your choice. For the sake of this test, I used the mop with water before adding some Tesco All Purpose Cleaner, as per the instructions.

When spraying water, you should be mindful of the angle of the handle, otherwise you risk firing water up the wall or your kitchen units (which I may have done once or twice).

I found the mop was able to easily deal with everyday stains, although the difference in the results when mopping with and without the cleaning product was negligible.

Although the 1-2 Spray was able to tackle all the stains successfully, the mop head didn’t really look dirty at all, unlike the Vileda Looper which finished its test with the filthiest mops imaginable. However, unlike the Looper, the Vileda 1-2 Spray is much better at getting right up to the edges and tackling corners, as well as snaking its way under chairs and table legs.

A word of advice - don’t turn the mop upside down to check the floor head when there is water in the tube as you’ll find yourself in an even bigger mess than you started with.

Unlike the Henry Spray Mop, it is not easy to see when the water level is running low as the tube is not transparent.

How well does the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop clean laminate flooring?

vileda-1-2-spray-review-(5).jpg

It is easy to control the amount of water, so I was able to spray enough to get the job done without running the risk of warping the laminate. The Vileda 1-2 Spray mop was able to swiftly remove everyday stains, including muddy footprints and spilled hot chocolate, without any problems. I did feel the kitchen floor was left with a slightly streaky appearance after mopping.

How well does the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop clean tiled flooring?

The Vileda 1-2-Spray Mop did a fab job on the tiled floor in my utility room, leaving it looking fresher than it did before.

How do you clean the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop pad?

vileda-1-2-spray-review-(3).jpg

When it’s time to clean the dirty mop pad, it can be put into the washing machine and washed at up to 60°C. Don’t be tempted to iron, tumble dry or use fabric softener on the pad as this could damage the microfibres. Vileda claims that, with a little TLC, you can wash and reuse each pad up to 200 times.

Vileda recommends not using corrosive cleaners, wax-based cleaning solutions or hard water with the 1-2 Spray Mop. If you live in a hard water area, you will need to clean the nozzle out with a solution of white vinegar and water to remove any congestion. Alternatively, you may want to check out our best water softener buyers guide to decide whether this would be a good investment for your household.

Does the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop offer value for money?

The Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop is currently selling on Amazon at £38, which includes an extra refill. At the time of writing, this is more than £20 cheaper than the Henry Spray Mop, which works in a similar way, except the water is stored in a removable plastic bottle, rather than the handle. The Henry Spray Mop does have a larger capacity, and can hold 400ml of water, compared to the Vileda’s 250ml. However, I found the capacity of the 1-2 Spray Mop more than enough to clean my kitchen, conservatory, utility room, bathroom and downstairs loo in one swoop.

It is worth noting that you can buy a mop and bucket set for a cheaper price than the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop, for example the Vileda Turbo Microfibre Mop and Bucket Set, which was selling on Amazon for £33 at the time of writing (August 10th, 2023).

But if your ultimate goal is ditching the bucket and not breaking the bank, then the Vileda 1-2 Spray Mop is a solid choice.
