I have a Dreamgenii. If I don’t use it, I wake up during the night with hip pain. It also stops me rolling onto my back.

How we tested the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow

I used the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow throughout my second trimester, roughly from 18 – 27 weeks, along with the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow and the Babymoov Dream Belt.

I tried the pillow lying down on my left side at night and also during the day whilst sitting upright and relaxing on the sofa or in the bedroom. I wanted to see how a smaller pregnancy pillow like this one would support my bump, hips, back and knees.

During testing, I scored the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow out of five in many different criteria including: overall comfort, bump support, back support, hip/leg support, practicality, and value for money. I also took the size of the pillow into account and whether it disturbed my partner or not in the night.

First impressions of the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and feeding Pillow

The Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow comes in a small/medium sized reusable bag that’s curled up like a Catherine wheel. It was quite pleasing to take it out and watch it unravel.

Once it’s out of the bag, I noticed that it’s quite a strange shape, but for good reason. Resembling a number 7, the pillow has one long thin part on the right-hand side and then a piece of thick fabric which attaches to a smaller pillow on the other side.

So, the idea is that you position yourself inside the pillow facing the long section so that your knees and hips are supported at the front and your lower back is cushioned by the shorter section at the back.

The cover is made from 100% soft Jersey cotton, which is very soft and my plain oat coloured design was nice enough to look at.

How big is the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow

The Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow is a bit smaller than the likes of the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow and is around ‎79cm in length by 14cm wide. This size is pretty standard and there’s no way to adjust any of the pillow sections as your bump grows.

While it’s not the biggest pregnancy pillow on the market, the back support cushion could be disruptive for your partner if you’re in a smaller bed.

How easy is it to use the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow?

It was easy to use right out of the box as the pillow comes with the cotton cover already on, so there’s no assembly required. It did take me a little while to figure out how best to position myself on it though, reason being that you must lie down on the fabric to position yourself and I found that it’s quite hard to move the pillow around to get comfortable.

To use the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow in bed, place it beneath your head pillow and lie on top of it. Your left arm should rest above it, while the little pillow at the end of the "7" supports your back. Once you've adjusted to your liking, it feels nice and cosy being nestled between the two sides of the pillow.

However, there's one drawback: the pillow is specifically designed for sleeping on your left side, which can feel limiting if you prefer other positions.

This pillow did offer good support for my bump and hips, I also liked the little cushion on my back, but because of the way the pillow is designed, if I turned on my right side I lost out on that hip support.

Can you use the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow for breastfeeding as well as pregnancy support?

I haven’t tried to use it as a breastfeeding pillow, but the manufacturers claim that it can be used this way, stating that it doubles as a sturdy feeding support pillow once your baby arrives. To do this, simply use the long section as back support and create a cradle with the centre panel and back support cushion.

Does the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow offer good support?

This pillow did offer good support for my bump and hips, I also liked the little cushion on my back, but because of the way the pillow is designed, if I turned on my right side I lost out on that hip support.

When sharing the bed with my husband, he found the smaller side of the pillow annoying because it would move and accidentally bump into him whenever I shifted during sleep. Understandably, he wasn't too fond of it for that reason.

How do you wash the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow?

This pillow didn’t come with washing instructions, so I had to look online to find the answers. According to the manufacturers, the covers are machine washable at 40 degrees, but the pillow itself is hand wash only (with warm water), because like with all pillows, the fibre filling inside can be affected.

How does the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow compare with other pregnancy pillows?

Compared to the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow, the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow provides excellent lower back support along with the hip and leg support similar to the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow. However, I found it to be firmer and rounder than I'd prefer, and unlike the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow, it lacks adjustability.

While it doesn't have the same luxurious feel as the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow, it's understandable considering the significant price difference. The Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow is less versatile compared to other pillows I've tried, particularly for those who prefer to switch between sleeping on their left and right sides.

If you're considering a full-sized U-shaped pillow like the Kally sleep but lack the bed space, the Dreamgenii could be a suitable compromise. It offers back and hip support similar to a U-shaped pillow but in a smaller size. However, if bed space is limited, the Dreamgenii might still be too large.

Is the Dreamgenii  Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow good value for money?

The Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow, priced at around £50, offers good value for money compared to pricier options like the bbhugme Pregnancy Pillow. It offers sufficient back support along with hip and bump support without dominating the entire bed, making it a practical choice.

If you're concerned about rolling onto your back while sleeping, its design offers peace of mind by preventing this. However, it's important to note that the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow is less flexible compared to other pregnancy pillows on the market.

It's ideal for those who specifically need back support during pregnancy or worry about rolling onto their back while sleeping on their left side. However, it may not provide sufficient support for taller or larger mums-to-be.

Are there any downsides to the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow?

After using it for several weeks throughout my second trimester, I found that the Dreamgenii Pregnancy Support and Feeding Pillow is only designed for sleeping on your left side, which felt a little restrictive.

There’s also no way to adjust the width or length of any of the pillow sections, which may not work for you as your bump grows.

Also, if you tend to toss and turn a lot in your sleep like I do, this pillow may just be an unwelcome visitor in bed with your partner!
