Oh that’s a nice list of organisations to approach to ask their stance on the rights of women and girls

Nice. That's a good list of clients.

No mention of the consultation? Haven't seen the add yet - just the picture you put up.

looks great Bespin

I don't think there's anything in that ad I disagree with.

Trans people should absolutely not face hostility just on the basis of being trans

It’s telling that this is the tack they’ve taken, rather than arguing their case FOR self-ID...

TwistedStitch · 17/10/2018 08:19

Mmm I wonder how many GC feminists will start kicking off, demanding boycotts and picketing the Metro offices. Not one I bet.

Report
Rumbledore · 17/10/2018 08:21

Of course those organisations support trans rights. Most people do. It's bit like the GG poll...

PronounIsWitch · 17/10/2018 08:21

Yes the hate for Metro didn’t last long. Someone at Stonewall MRA HQ decided to ape what women did. Complete shocker. Never see that.

Report
Floisme · 17/10/2018 08:22

Nothing to disagree with there that I can see, good advert in fact. But why no mention of Self ID?

Report
HumberElla · 17/10/2018 08:22

That’s lovely. I’m glad there’s so much support for equality and respect for trans people.

Not sure what specific point they are making here though?

That’s a good ad. Don’t have any problem with it at all.

Did you think we would rubbish it?

Will Stonewall disclose how much was paid for the full page ad Grin

Bet it's nothing like the huge numbers thrown around for the FPFW ad

I suspect there will be a lot of Metro readers who don’t realise why the advert has been placed.

That’s why stonewall have gone for the bland approach. Motherhood & Apple Pie. No one can disagree with it.

Imagine if they’d put please respond to the consultation, so that men can just call themselves women if they want to access the woman and girls only changing room your daughter uses?

birdbandit · 17/10/2018 08:27

They have realised that mentioning self ID is toxic, because then questions.

They are not arguing back, just suggesting because they are so supported that any opposition is unreasonable, can be disregarded.

It's just marketing.

Is Ocado in the list Grin ?

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 08:38

I know someone close to me who works for one of those.

This week they asked for an open discussion on the GRA internally.

It is hard to argue with dignity and respect, but the ad clearly aligns its signatories with Stonewall, to which it directs people for more info.
To see agencies of the state or of the intelligence services, such as GCHQ, openly endorsing a particular political position is rather sinister.

Report
VovoBickie · 17/10/2018 08:50

Absolutely! Who would disagree with that?

Report
QuentinWinters · 17/10/2018 08:50

I think it's such a shame stonewall gas gone this way. They did so much to advance gay rights and tolerance of gay people, which is why so many big companies are aligned to them. That could change once people realise how anti female (and particularly anti-lesbian) their current political agenda is.
Also they may start to have issues getting volunteers to work for them. It seems as if many gay people are starting to be frustrated with the T take over

Have some concerns about the GRA and hormone blockers for girls, but can't disagree with anything there. Fully support people being able to present as they wish and use whatever pronouns they prefer.

Report
Redkeyboard · 17/10/2018 08:55

The wording in the ad is great, who wouldn’t agree with that?

The consultation guidance it links to, however, is deeply problematic from an org that has said it won’t consider the impact of what it is asking for on women and children.

Do the logos on that ad all support that guidance and believe it is necessary for trans equality etc? Because that is what the ad suggests.

The weird thing is, on the issue of gay rights (which it was founded to advance), Stonewall was so moderate and so careful to take public opinion with them that they didn't even endorse same-sex marriage (let alone call its opponents homophobic and try to prevent them debating) until 2010. Yet on trans rights they have taken a completely different tack.

AssassinatedBeauty · 17/10/2018 08:59

Totally agree that everyone needs to be treated with dignity and respect.

I wonder why they haven't mentioned self-ID and single sex places? Seems an odd omission when they had a big ad to fill.

Report
RiverTam · 17/10/2018 09:00

but . . . but . . . think of what Stonewall could have done with the eleventry trillion pounds it cost to run that ad! They're so selfish.
