I note "Acceptance without Exception" is gone. Stupidest slogan ever.

LaundryLaundryLaundry · 17/10/2018 09:49

Are they saying with that ad that all those companies etc. implicitly agree with Stonewall's position re TWAW and the wide open definition of trans? Seems a bit of a liberty to take, if so. I feel some emails coming on...

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 09:50

Captain is that to me? Why should I check? It is they who should have checked and I have to assume that either they did and they agree with Stonewall, in which case they are misogynistic fuckers, or they didn't because they don't care enough about who their brand is associated with (which I really doubt).

So as far as I am concerned they all stand with Stonewall and so are legitimate targets for boycotts and emails.

ADastardlyThing · 17/10/2018 09:51

I don't quite think it has the effect they think it does?

Of course transpeople, along with everyone else should be treated with dignity and respect.

Someones specialist subject on mastermind is clearly "stating the bleedin obvious".

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 09:54

Captain is that to me?

No, why would it be to you?

Dragon3 · 17/10/2018 09:58

How manipulative.

Any normal person would agree with the sentiments expressed in that ad. Most of us here do.

Many of those normal people would strongly disagree with female birth certificates on demand for literally any male who wants one. No gatekeeping required.

Which is what Stonewall wants. As the link to their consultation shows.

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 10:07

Captain because it was right underneath my comment! No problem - though my comment still stands, but not at you, if you like.

breastfeedingclownfish · 17/10/2018 10:11

So why is there no mention of Self ID or the consultation? You would think Stonewall, of all organisations would take the opportunity to let the Metro readers know about the consultation which is closing on Friday

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 10:12

because it was right underneath my comment

It was posted less than a second later.

MsBeaujangles · 17/10/2018 10:14

Great ad. I can get behind all that it says.

I expect that this is as far as the ad could go as I expect the number of sponsors would fall significantly if it said anything about self ID or TWAW. This is where the trans activists and gender extremists lose support from the wider public.

I really hope that this represents a swing towards a sensible focus on living in a society where there is tolerance and room for everyone (metaphorically and literally!)

Floisme · 17/10/2018 10:15

Of course we know. Please give us some credit.

breastfeedingclownfish · 17/10/2018 10:16

GCHQ is on that list.

And Liberty.

Floisme · 17/10/2018 10:17

Sorry multiple cross post. ^ That was to the poster who says we don’t realise men can be manipulative.

Noqont · 17/10/2018 10:18

Thanks for the list. Good to know who to write to to make sure they have both sides of the debate. Thanks Stonewall;-) although really you should have spent that money on more worthy things, like refuges and toilets etc for trans people.

Floisme · 17/10/2018 10:20

And yes however did little ole Stonewall find the money for an advert in the Metro? I thought you had to pay for them in blood diamonds?

CaptainKirkssparetupee · 17/10/2018 10:21

Don't forget the advertising standards agency for being misleading.

Redkeyboard · 17/10/2018 10:23

Liberty is free to choose to support whatever campaign it wishes.

WTF GCHQ think they are doing I don’t know.

LangCleg · 17/10/2018 10:28

Oh, what a lovely picture, Bespin! Doesn't it just show the corporate and institutional support! How wonderful that transactivism has completely solved the oppression issue for its constituency by illustrating in this way what a top down, elite movement looks like! Good for you! We can now move on to some demographics that are oppressed at long last!

Did the ad cost £45k? Asking for a friend.

Turph · 17/10/2018 10:29

Are they saying with that ad that all those companies etc. implicitly agree with Stonewall's position re TWAW and the wide open definition of trans? Seems a bit of a liberty to take, if so. I feel some emails coming on...
Dear (company CEO)
Your firm was included in a political advertisement today, stating you support Stonewall's guidance on the Gender Recognition Act's proposed reforms. Could you please clarify the following for me as a customer:
1/ Do you believe that occasional cross dressers are transgender and/or form part of a protected group?
2/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into their public toilets?
3/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into their changing rooms?
4/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into their prison cells?
5/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into their domestic abuse refuges?
6/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into their rape crisis centres?
7/ Do you agree that women and girls should accept any male who identifies as not-male into all female-only spaces?
8/ Do you agree that the ability to call the police after an attack is sufficient protection for women generally?
9/ Do you agree that religious women should be forced to mix with male bodied people or remove themselves from the situation?
10/ Do you agree that lesbians are discriminating against transwomen who have a penis by refusing to consider dating them?
11/ Have you consulted your staff on this statement of support? Less than 20% of the population support self-id.
12/ Have you consulted your customers on this statement of support? Most people are not aware 80-95% of transwomen do not take hormones or have surgery and this knowledge affects their opinion
13/ Are you prepared to offer support to lesbians or is that not part of your company's values?
14/ Are you prepared to offer support to transsexuals or is that not part of your company's values?
15/ Are you happy with Stonewall's acceptance of the 4000% increase in children wanting to transition?
16/ Are you willing to make a statement confirming all of the above?

Thank you for your time

Kind regards

Turph

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 10:29

So why is there no mention of Self ID or the consultation?

Well a for starters because there are organisations on there which will have to deal with issues where there is a clash between trans rights and women's rights and they are duty bound to take an impartial line.

And secondly because they don't want to encourage discussion. You keep the meaning narrow and people don't question further.

Thirdly there's some names on there that Stonewall does not want to end up picking a fight with. It has to be stating the bleeding obvious otherwise there's a risk of one of those organisations suddenly going wtf and making a fuss Stonewall don't want.

On that note, I'd point out there is a double intention and meaning to this advert. It's not simply about acceptance of trans people.

It's worth remembering 'acceptance' has become tied to obedience in the Stonewall cannon and church. That's what shouting transphobia at everything is about. It's not about being accepting it's also about controlling the behaviour of others.

This is a show of power (doesn't really fit with being repressed does it?). It's saying, look how powerful we are and how much influence we have, don't fuck with us. Just as much as its about acceptance.

But I do think it also reveals a fragility to that and a growing sense of losing influence and respect in its own right that Stonewall has to go: "Here look at my big brother. Pick on me and these are all my friends"

Dropping the acceptance without exception strap line is most interesting in that context too.

RiverTam · 17/10/2018 10:31

Turph that's brilliant! Mind if I borrow? Another slow day at work...

Charliethefeminist · 17/10/2018 10:32

Appeal to authority. Last resort of the quack.

RedToothBrush · 17/10/2018 10:34

I loved studying semiotics and layered meaning in art history and media.

Wherein a picture can have a visual impact but also make coded political and cultural statements to particular groups which have a higher level of understanding of the subject matter.

This is what we have going on here.

It's a very interesting advert.

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 17/10/2018 10:35

Brilliant Turph.

I'd also like to ask if the support women and girls having intimate medical procedures by a man who identifies as a not man?

And the same question in regard to intimate police body search

And whether they support men identifying as not men working in any way with female rape victims?

Dragon3 · 17/10/2018 10:37

They didn't mention self ID, but the link provided takes you straight to the Stonewall trans page where the consultation is at the top.

'Do you agree that trans people deserve dignity and rights? Of course you do. In which case you will want to complete the consultation in this way'.

It is far too emotionally manipulative for comfort. I am very dismayed at the direction Stonewall has taken.
