Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

BIWI · 22/07/2019 08:23

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

Morning! I am pleased with my 12s 4 end weight. 2 pounds below last year's effort. Definitely want to do better though, so I plan to get back on the train in a few days time. Damn Facebook just showed me 1 year ago, not where I want to be yet, for all the nsvs.

Although I fear it will be a rough ride, through August at least.

Rshard · 22/07/2019 08:52

Hang in there alma, you’re half way through!

Thanks for the new thread BIWI, and yet another brilliant bootcamp!

Forgot to weigh this morning, so not sure what my end result is but I know I could have done better. But, I know for sure I’d have been heavier if I’d have done nothing.

Nameusernameuser · 22/07/2019 08:56

I'm finishing 13.25lbs lighter. So so close to a stone but I'll keep going. Have been quite quiet on the threads but have been lurking. Going to carry on between threads, only 20lbs to go Grin

Almahart · 22/07/2019 09:00

After my triumph last week I’ve put a couple of pounds back on so still bobbing around 10 stone 10 - but I think some of it at least is not drinking enough water and perhaps a bit of totm

So I am going to throw my hat over the fence and say that my new target is ten stone. I want to get as close to that as possible before I go to France for a fortnight on mid August (where I will have to do my best to stay off the baguettes and maintain!)

MrsBertBibby · 22/07/2019 09:13

My new mini-target is to get into the 11 stones, but I would really like to see what 11 1/2 stone looks like.

VeryLittleOwl · 22/07/2019 09:19

BIWI and everyone here - thank you so much. I've weighed in at 10st 9lbs this morning, 2lbs down, into the 140s, and 15lbs lighter than I was 10 weeks ago.

16lbs to go to get to my target of 9st 7lbs, which I hope to do in time to go on holiday at the beginning of December. I know I've got a couple of blips coming up over the next two months, my mother and my aunt both turn 80 and I intend to enjoy both celebration meals :) but other than that I shall KOKO and hopefully be in the low 10s by the start of the next boot camp :)

GreeboIsMySpiritAnimal · 22/07/2019 09:28

Will try to weigh in today but don't know if I'll manage it - have to go to the weigh-in thing at boots and everything is harder with the kids at home.

tea69 · 22/07/2019 09:56

Well done everyone, great results! Especially encouraging for me to see the people who who have less to lose that have had good results over the last 10 weeks.

After a couple of blips at the weekend, I am starting properly today. Weighed in at 159.6lbs. My goal is 140lbs.

Notlostjustexploring · 22/07/2019 09:59

Having assiduously avoided the SoF, I manned (womanned?) up and filled in my last column. I was pleased to discover that I've actually lost 4lbs this bootcamp!! Okay, I'm still a pound up on where I finished in the previous bootcamp, but like Rshard I would have been heavier had I done nothing.

I'm currently in the process of experimenting with home made beef jerky. My first batch was a bit overdone, but I'm feeling optimistic I can do a better next batch. It's been quite good having it sit around for a chew when I get a bad case of the munchies, which I always get after a bad night with the sprogs. I'll report back when I get a good batch.

I would also like a gold star. Guests brought round some mini rolls and there is a full packet that I've still not touched.

venusandmars · 22/07/2019 10:24

Thank you @BIWI for all your hard work, and for keeping these threads going. I'm 4lbs down this BC and only 2 lbs of my final, final target. MY main aim is to maintain a healthy blood pressure and that seems to be happening.

I read about water, and it made sense: Drink Lots of Water
Water is vital for life. It helps with digestion, elimination, and the transport of toxins and other substances. Water helps the liver to metabolize fats and the kidneys to function properly.
When your body is dehydrated, the liver halts every activity that requires water (such as fat breakdown) and starts backing up the kidney to support its functions. When you are drinking less water, your liver is neglecting the breakdown of fats and is focusing on sharing kidney functions and removing toxins from the body.
Due to this, fewer fats are being mobilized and less body fat is being burned. The liver is then unable to produce enough ketones since they are the byproduct of fat breakdown.
A typical low-carb high-fat diet is dehydrating by default. You’ll need to drink more water than any other low-calorie diet to keep up with your losses.

Essentially, your liver will only burn fat efficiently if your are fully hydrated, so drink enough for your weight, plus even more if you are on egg-fast or ultra boot camp, more if you are exercising, more if it is hot, more if you consume anything which is a diuretic e.g. coffee, alcohol.

BrassicaBabe · 22/07/2019 11:01

Some excellent loses here! You should be v proud!

ShagMeRiggins · 22/07/2019 11:09

A pound down while leaning to the top right so squeezed into 189lbs, total of 6.2lbs off this bootcamp, and an overall loss in 2(ish) years of 47lbs, nearly 20% of body weight.

Not exactly a Sprint, clearly a Marathon, but as others have said, at least I didn’t spend the past two years putting on even more weight.

Next goal for me is birthday at the end of September, so approximately another 10 weeks and I would like to be at 175-180 by then. That would make me very happy going into the next Bootcamp, whenever that might be.

You’re a great bunch, this has been my favourite Bootcamp amp, and I really hope you all come back b

Thanks as always to BIWI, Athelstane, StuntNun, but also thanks to all of you who kept showing up here, over and over, and keeping the show going.

prettybird · 22/07/2019 11:36

11st 3 1/4lb for me today Smile So I've managed to maintain what I lost on the egg fast (5lb in total) plus a wee bit Grin 2lb off this week ( 3/4lb since the end of the egg fast).

Nearly 12lb off this Boot Camp which I'm pleased about, given how far off the wagon I'd fallen - and that I'd tried to get back into LHFC for a few weeks before starting Boot Camp again as I was in denial about what the scales would say and was avoiding them Blush, so wouldn't have got the initial "whoosh".

Like MrsBert , I'm heavier than I was last year Sad - but I need to remind myself that I am still nearly 3 stone lighter than I was in May 2017 Shock. I got to just under 12 stone for Christmas 2017, and just over 11 stone for Christmas 2018. May aim is to get to 10 stone 9lb for Christmas 2019. That's a pound a week. I will do it. If you don't see me around, feel free to message me, as it will be because I'm falling off the wagon and hiding Wink

VenusandMars is so right about the water. Drink your allocation and then some Halo. Every time I'm slipping or I blip upwards, I can trace it back to not drinking enough water.

On the egg fast: the other thing I would say it does well, it does for me Wink, is help break the habit of snacking. You are so satiated and the fact that your options are so limited (I restricted cheese, so it was eggs, butter or water), that you realise that it's really not hunger at all. I did have a bag of pork crackling while I was on the egg fast, as I had a yearning for something crunchy - but Shock I managed to make it last 4 days Shock

Rayna37 · 22/07/2019 12:17

Well an embarrassingly bad final weigh in: not even a whole lb down!125lbs.

That's not the full picture though. I had been bobbling around 126-128 lbs before we started which was half a stone over my target (which is 120lbs). I weighed in at 125.8lbs to start bootcamp and got as low as 120.2 before my hols, felt much slimmer and spent a couple of weeks in the 121-122 zone. Even last week I saw 122.8 on Thursday but a beery weekend did not help. I had a very LCHF day yesterday so had been hoping for better than 125 though!

I'm egg fasting now.

It's been a really good bootcamp which I've got lots from. Much better at drinking my water, even on weekends now. Drinking less alcohol, particularly in the week. New discoveries include butermint tea, Singleton's Parlick cheese, and frozen green beans. Whispers falling out of love with running, or at least racing I am loving doing more yoga (YouTube) and pilates (a weekly Class I make a couple of times a month).

I can't believe I've done a whole bootcamp with no Brussels Sprouts and no Cabbage Carbonara but I guess that's more seasonal for next time. Of course I'd like to be at target by then and if not I'll only join if I honestly think I'll stick to it from Oct to Christmas!

prettybird · 22/07/2019 12:36

We'd still love to see you Rayna - even if you are "just" maintaining Grin

I love my weekly Pilates class and the coffee with the class afterwards and I also do the Shred/Ripped on the other 4 week days. Just started Level 3 of the Shred again today - I now do 4 days at each level of whichever DVD I am on. (I hate Level 4 of Ripped which has burpees in it Shock)

I'm more than half a stone heavier than I was this time last year. I have a garden party to go to on Saturday - it's normally held at the end of June (but our friend kindly delayed it as it would've been the same day as dh's 60th) and I'm half a stone heavier than I was for it last year. I'll need to try on my three summer dresses to see if they're ok to wear.

But as a sort of NSV: I can now do up the lovely black trousers I got at Christmas (and looked great and were loose) again Smile. There was a period where I couldn't even do them up Blush I wouldn't say that they were that flattering at the moment - but there again, at the moment, I don't really have the occasion to wear smart black trousers, so there's plenty of time Wink

Notlostjustexploring · 22/07/2019 14:11

venusandmars the post about the water was very useful! My water consumption has not been optimal, so a very useful and timely reminder.

I've had 2 litres so far and feeling a bit swishy.

My toddler has been sent home from nursery with suspected chicken pox today, so I may be eating a lot of eggs in the next week to minimise any havoc in the kitchen as dealing with a lively toddler on lockdown in the house...

Notlostjustexploring · 22/07/2019 14:13

prettybird and nice NSV.

I always love reading about the NSVs on here!!

flowerpower18 · 22/07/2019 14:37

Will there be another Bootcamp starting?

I missed this one and as I only requested to join last week.

I have 4 weeks until my holidays and since 17th June am down 9lbs already.

MrsTerryPratchett · 22/07/2019 14:46

After falling over the line, having been AWOL and useless, my scales came good. Their place under the patio is free for others. I lost a whole stone this Bootcamp. Admittedly mostly not in the last two weeks!

Congrats to others, especially the smaller shorts wearers. Grin

And lots of gratitude to BIWI and Athel and all the people who make this actually work!

prettybird · 22/07/2019 14:48

Next one will be October but hang around here as we're not going anywhere Wink so we'll be continuing to offer each other support.

The Rules are in the Spreadsheet of Fabulousness in the OP. You can also look back at the various Weeks of the Boot Camp (they're all numbered Smile) to get a feel for the particular issues you might encounter.

And ask if you have any questions. There are a few on here who've only just started.

I for one am continuing on Boot Camp (well, mixed with Boot Camp Light, which you can go onto after the 1st 2 weeks) as I need to lose an average of 1lb a week if I want to achieve my goal by Christmas Xmas Smile

Rshard · 22/07/2019 14:57

Some fabulous losses and nsv’s!

I’m planning on sticking around until the next boot camp. My next mini goal will be to get into the 10’s. We’re away on 22 August, so that would be a good timeline.

prettybird · 22/07/2019 15:23

My next mini goal is to make it into 11st somethings Grin When I get back to 11st 13lb, I'll be back to 3 stone off since my heaviest in May 2017 Smile

Only 4.25lb to go Grin

BrassicaBabe · 22/07/2019 16:38

I am a twunt. I received some disappointing news last night and took out my disappointment by binge eating chocolate biscuits Sad I'm back to where I was a week ago pre egg fast. Idiot idiot idiot!!

Having roast lamb and broccoli tonight. Will consider egg fast tomorrow until Friday.

NigellaAwesome · 22/07/2019 17:16

My final weigh in was 87.2kg (192 lbs), down from 102.4kg (225 lbs).

I am delighted, and annoyed with myself for putting on so much, in equal measure. I've finished up 2kg lighter than where I was last September.

I'll definitely be keeping on until next boot camp. My next mini target is 85kg which also brings me into the 180s.

Thanks so much BIWI and Athelstane.

1Wildheartsease · 22/07/2019 17:46

1 lb down - after a looooong stall this bootcamp.

I didn't gain over this period though and haven't been disheartened into giving up this way of eating.

I know I need to drink more water - and probably eat a little less but this period of my year is always very difficult - with travel and working away a lot. Usually it is a period of gain - so even a pound down is quite a win.

Thank-you so much BIWI and Athelstane - and all contributors . Happy summer everyone. See you again soon :)
