Summer Low Carb Bootcamp - at last the finishing line!

BIWI · 22/07/2019 08:23

Isn't 10 weeks a long time!

The Spreadsheet of Fabulousness is here one last time

Although this is the last official weigh-in, this thread will stay up for general chat/support until the next Bootcamp - probably in October.

I hope everyone has a good 'final' result.

Every Bootcamp is different, but this one has, I have to say, been remarkably well behaved Grin. I've lost the Big Stick somewhere in the back of a cupboard!

While I know you're all here and reading because I know people don't read all the posts if you want to take the opportunity to meet @ShagMeRiggins (and me) for a lighthearted Bootcamp style & beauty event probably with gin thrown in for good measure send me a PM!

I also like hard boiled eggs (not too hard - the ones left in the water after I've soft boiled my eggs) mashed with generous amounts of mayonnaise and salt & pepper.

Eggs scrambled gently (long & slow) in plenty of butter and minimal stirring, finished off (off the heat) with a slug of cream is lush Smile

Summery1 · 24/07/2019 22:40

venusandmars I've thought about this.
I am a little tired of saying 'no' to cake. But also, in the last few weeks my routine with the children has gone out the window. After an afternoon at the beach, (late) supper can be a pizza. I've also upped my exercise heaps - today I cycled 54km. Prepping has just fallen by the wayside.
I'm also tired of finding fault with myself. I've lost 2 st in 18 months. I look and feel good - but I'm still finding fault with myself.Angry

I think while I'm on holidays, I'll just have to eat as well as I can.

Almahart · 25/07/2019 06:56

I’m going to admit I got a day and a half through my egg fast and just couldn’t carry on. The hard boiled eggs with Boursin finished me off, I felt really sick after. Didn’t want say earlier for fear of putting you off @Rshard!

However, I didn’t feel at all hungry!

Rshard · 25/07/2019 07:31

Do you think it’s the change in routine with it being the school holidays summery?

alma, that’s weird about the eggs and Boursin! I literal struggled to get it down! I knew day 2 and 3 would be easier as I would be at home but that was grim. I love Boursin too, hope I’ve not rubies it!

StuntNun · 25/07/2019 07:32

NotLost calorie counting can work for some but I don't think it's a good way to lose weight. I got to my target weight eating around 1800 calories a day of full fat dairy, tonnes of butter, fatty cuts of meat and FLGV (f*ck loads of green veg Blush) eating when I was hungry and to satiation. There's no way a calorie-controlled diet would have been as enjoyable food-wise and it wouldn't have addressed the underlying cause, which was blood glucose instability, so I would have been ravenous all the time.

SittingontheSidelines · 25/07/2019 07:43

Hi All. Just posting then back to catch up on the thread. Thanks @BIWI for posting this thread, I'll definitely be hanging around. Hope your style meet goes well, sounds fun but sadly not doable for me at the moment

So I had my haggis (don't feel so bad about this after seeing @BIWI 's tea atBetty's) and more food that I shouldn't have. However I've been uber strict since I got back. I finish Boot Camp having lost 9 pounds and shall continue to LCHF for the foreseeable future.

We'll done for all those fabulous successes and thanks to all the contributors to this thread who've been invaluable in keeping me in line.

Grimbles · 25/07/2019 08:34

What rules are you following for the egg fast - is it 1 tbsp fat and up to 30g of cheese per egg?

Rshard · 25/07/2019 11:13

I’ve just been having a small amount of cheese, didn’t weigh it to be honest and then making them in butter as I normally would.

As of this morning I’m down 3.5lbs and that was without a no. 2.

prettybird · 25/07/2019 11:26

It's something like that Grimbles - although iirc, Stuntnun said that the cheese was there to help make the eggs palatable. Like Rshard , I didn't have that much.

I never tried Boursin with boiled eggs - sounds like it was just as well Wink It is nice in omelettes though Smile

Rshard · 25/07/2019 11:41

I’m a big fan of eggs so didn’t need to make them more palatable. I am looking forward to eating something different tomorrow though. prettybird, did you suggest still eating a couple though, to wean back into eating more normally?

prettybird · 25/07/2019 12:21

Yes - I went to 4 eggs and an evening meal for a couple of days and am continuing with 2 eggs a day - which often ends up being just 2 eggs and an evening meal and a couple of slices of salami or pastrami and some Emmenthal cheese as snacks. I've also gone back to having my 2-3 Brazil nuts a day (fortunately I don't really like them so no risk of more Wink)

ShagMeRiggins · 25/07/2019 12:53

Snacks, PrettyBird? Hmm

How are you feeling about snacks? Many of your posts after the egg fast indicated it broke you of your snack habit, so I’m slightly concerned/curious when you say you’re snacking again rather than having a proper light lunch if you don’t need much.

Apologies in advance if this sounds judgmental or I am out of line.

prettybird · 25/07/2019 13:06
Grin

....they are vastly reduced in quantity Wink. I'd now say that they weren't so much snacks as an early lunch, followed by 2 boiled eggs mid afternoon.

We've been having supper quite late, due to either ds' pre-season rugby training or Junior Rugby Club committee meetings.

I have however been turning down alcohol. Ended up eating (late) at our friend's place on Monday and dh and he shared 2 bottled of wine (first one as "sundowners"), while I had the smallest of glasses with my actual meal.

I'm down to 12 stone 2 3/4lb today Smile

....off to quaff some more water and have a sliver of butter Grin

BrassicaBabe · 25/07/2019 15:36

Watermelon is a no no isn't it? Sad too damn hot

prettybird · 25/07/2019 15:38

The heat is helping me drink my water allocation Smile

1stMrsF · 25/07/2019 15:58

@Rshard ooh I look forward to seeing your photo. Brooklyn Bridge was one of my favourite things that we did. Sorry I can’t give you any low carb tips though (aside from to say that getting coffee with cream was much easier there than here) as part of the NYC experience for me included bagels, deli sandwiches and fresh pasta...

Stay cool everyone!

ShagMeRiggins · 25/07/2019 16:51

now say that they weren't so much snacks as an early lunch

Well that’s all right then, prettybird. Wink

I meant to start my egg fast my looked on the fridge and realised I’ll be home alone for a week and it’s heaving with veg that will just go off. So far I’ve had multi veggie egg breakfasts, a lovely tricolore salad, an artichoke with butter (I know, higher carbs than desired but I didn’t eat much at all that day for the heat), a couple more salads of varying veg ingredients, a vegetable stir fry. We really did have a lot of veg!

Last night was lovely sirloin (and veg), but tonight will be fun—having friends around for cheese fondue. Always a good time.

prettybird · 25/07/2019 17:48

I remember visiting my BFF in Wales last August and she did a raclette. I was very pleased with myself that I swerved all the (lovely) new potatoes and just had lots of ghergkins and salad to accompany my cheese. Didn't avoid the wine though WinkWineBlush

Rshard · 25/07/2019 18:48

I kind of thought that might be the case in NY firstmrsf! Still when in Rome and all that.....

I tried Boursin in an omelette prettybird and it was so delicious! I’m going to have it again as my last meal of the egg fast

Youwanapizzame · 25/07/2019 19:41

What's everyone eating tonight.... I'm so hot I can't move or be bothered.....

I HAVE made some courgette muffins so i may have one when they're done....

My cankles are killing me. Deffo retaining a lot of water at the mo...

Loving all the pics ladies your all wonderful

ilovecherries · 25/07/2019 20:13

My ankles are quite swollen tonight as well, and it’s not really something I’m prone to, even when I was much bigger. DH currently making a chicken salad for dinner. Shuddering at the thought of an egg fast. My last attempt at that had me nearly rip my skin off with keto itch.

Notlostjustexploring · 25/07/2019 20:18

Drink more water! I get quite bad fluid retention in my fingers, and staying hydrated really helps.

I'm having a tuna salad for dinner. Tuna, red gem lettuce, cucumber, grated cheese, pine nuts and dressing. Really hits the spot in the heat, especially as no cooking required!!

Stuntnun I'd forgotten about carbs playing havoc with glucose levels as well. I'm well signed up to low carb as both weight loss and general health. I'm actually thinking of those I know who've lost weight calorie counting, there is for most, to some degree, an element of food obsession or martyred abstinence, eternally denying themselves what they want. Whereas with low carbing, that want generally goes away and it's, "bring the butter, more cream please" which is pretty awesome.

VeryLittleOwl · 25/07/2019 20:27

DH has done chicken breast in a homemade carbonara sauce over roasted green beans and asparagus. It is stupendously good. (He's got garlic bread with his.)

prettybird · 25/07/2019 21:18

Just had a lovely supper of home made pork burgers (with home grown shallots Smile) and roasted green beans (with olive oil and garlic).

Lots of water Grin

YesQueen · 25/07/2019 21:22

More salad for me. Can you eat too many salad leaves?!
