AIBU?

Accidently found my present and it's all wrong.

I've just discovered what DH has bought and it is so wrong. I wear crocs in the house (judge away) - the last pair I bought was a new style with no holes in and they're making my feet stuffy and sweaty. I mentioned that I might get the original type but fur lined for winter. DH has taken this as a hint and ordered some for me for christmas, which is nice, but he's chosen some fur lined with no holes so will probably be more sweaty than those I moan about. They're not a colour I would have chosen - although I could live with it, and they're a cheaper knock off brand so wouldn't last as well, but more importantly they're size 3/4 and I'm 7/8.

And so to the AIBU - they're arriving today while he's at work (I got the delivery notification, that's how I found out) - do I send them straight back and 'helpfully' choose something that will at least fit and that I would want to wear? Or do I leave it to him to sort out after christmas? (he'll probably grab the box and quickly wrap without realizing). He's a great husband, but is shit at gifts.

YABU - leave it for him at christmas
YANBU - sort it now yourself

Are you sure they are for you, it's not even close in terms of sizing!? I think if you're receiving delivery it's ok to send them back, it's not like you were snooping

I wouldn't assume they were for me if the sizing is so out, so I would ask him "who are these for?"

Option C: tell him they sent the delivery notification to you so unfortunately the jig is up, but it’s lucky really because you spotted that they’d sent the wrong size. Then send him a link to the ones you want.

It sounds like he has bought them for someone else tbh. Would a relative of his likely fit a 3/4?

pretend you've not paid any attention to the box that arrived today.

send DH a link to the crocs you want with precise instructions, saying that you know it is hard to buy shoes online.

Let him sort out the returns etc before Christmas.

Message him and ask who they are for, they can’t be for you since they’re four sizes too small.

I think I’d tell him you got the delivery note and saw they’re the wrong size and type and can you send them back? Send him a link to the right ones

I would also wonder if they're definitely for you. How could he get the size so wrong? It's only a christmas present and it's not totaly thoughtless so I'd just leave it till after Christmas, tell him it was a nice thought but the size is completely wrong and while he's changing it actually this colour/style would work better.

Have you got kids? Could he have bought them for a child? It would seem a bit odd for him to be so far out on the sizes no?
Size 3-4 will clearly look very small!

How do you know they're for you? I wouldn't think he'd be so ignorant of your shoe size?

If it were my DH I’d message and ask who the shoes were for because they’re not your size, nowhere near!

How could your DH conceivably not know your shoe size? Xmas Confused

Report
SeaSunandSand · 14/12/2020 11:52

Surely he can’t have got the size so wrong?

That said, my DH once bought me some slippers in a size 4 as they were the only size left. I’m a 6. He thought I could just swap them for the correct size after Christmas 🤨

Unless there's any chance he's ordered for someone else (incredibly unlikely) I'd return them then order the ones you want. He can hardly get the hump when he's got it so very wrong. You should have a present to open on Christmas Day.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 14/12/2020 11:53

I'd just tell him like pps have said that you got the notification and they're not right, can they please be changed.
You've got the notification so it's only fair you tell him.

I’d also assume they’re not for you. Crap with presents is one thing. Not knowing your wife’s shoe size is another.

Report
LittleMissLockdown · 14/12/2020 11:55

Agree with others given the sizing is so off I would presume they were not for you. Just hand him the box when he gets in and say these arrived today seems like my love fo crocs is catching on, pity they are too small or i would have pinched them. Then ask whose name to put on the gift tag.

Unless you need them on Christmas day you can return them after Christmas and choose ones you actually want.

Or they're for someone else.

Make sure you keep the returns label!

Dh doesn't know mine - I've just asked to double check.
I'm not sure what he is come to think about it!

That would change the Emma Thompson/Alan Rickman plotline in Love Actually considerably, if Love Rat Alan were buying small, furry knock-off Crocs for the Sexy Secretary, rather than an expensive necklace. Perhaps Rowan Atkinson could insert dried rose petals into the holes...

I have no clear idea of my partner's shoe size (both women). But IMO you need to wait til Xmas. I (personally) am not a fan of this really transactional approach to presence.
