Is this sexism and can i complain?

Ok, me and my partner (male) wanted to relive a bit of our youth and go clubbing / night out yesterday as generally there's really good discounts on sundays and its a bit more relaxed.

So we approach a club and theres one line for both sexes but females have to go to the left once they reach the front and show ID to a female bouncer and males to the right and male bouncer. No issue so far.

This club charges an entry free "to help manage the crowds and improve the experience plus to absorb the costs of people not drinking and just coming and dancing after getting drunk at home" . I'm asked to pay £2.50 entry free and enter, my partner comes in and is grumbling that on a cheap night they've charged him a fiver for just entry.

Now surely that isn't right and is sex discrimination? They're charging more for men to enter then females even though we both use the same service. Am i being petty to complain and idk report them to somewhere or should i just get over it?

Maybe sexism, maybe he looks older and it's ageism, maybe they give discounts for more attractive ppl (compliment to you btw) Either way it's not right, but I used to pay £3 to get into a club in the early 00s (tho I am an uggo) so a fiver now dsnt seem that steep?

It’s not sexism, it’s marketing.

They want to encourage more women to go to their venue.

Many years ago we visited a city where women seriously outnumbered men, DH got in free.

Maybe you can complain to the club that you should be allowed to pay more for your ticket

If women wanted to say play golf, and the club charged more would that be ok?

No i wouldn't be able to cope woth that, why does one sex get in free but the others not? Surely that's sex discrimination?

When I use to go out (along time ago now 😭) ladies free before 11 was very very common!

It is sexist and it is illegal. Don’t know how far you’d get with a complain but it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t make one

It's so pervasive that I find it hard to believe it's illegal.

Do you really care? The club is trying to optimise their M:F ratio so they can facilitate hookups so they can make more money. It's really not a sexist agenda.

Is it possible your partner or the cashier didn’t realise you had paid? Was he paying for both of you?

Well i do care yes or i wouldn't have started a thread about it.

But clearly if you all think I'm unreasonable then i won't complain, but i thought it was pretty unreasonable for a company to charge different prices to people based on their sex.
You know, if i was charged more for entering i would be pissed and annoyed and I'm sure that most of you would be, so i don't get why it was acceptable the other way round.

I don't think so, we all have to pay seperately and there's male and female line and you have to pay by yourself.
So i don't think it could have been a mistake.

It is an issue, I'm not sure why they get away with it- there may be some business case.

That said, it's fairly small beer in the world injustice stakes. I wonder how much more than the pay gap it is? And perhaps men can get in wearing less expensive clothes... muses.

Either the person taking the money is ripping off customers and pocketing off the difference or they are trying to get more women in so it attracts nore men who thej pay to meet all these womebn and they make more money.

So you complain, take it to the European Court of Justice and force woman to pay more to get into night clubs.

Just like what happened with car insurance, women end up paying more and more to subsidise men's bad behaviour.

Sigh, equality is expensive, I guess women could just stop going to night clubs. Maybe just make them all men's clubs?
