AIBU?

To wonder why it's so transphobic here?

Really what's the big deal if a transwoman uses the women's toilets or changing rooms - they are women after all!

Can you not possibly imagine how hard it must be to be born into the wrong body? Imagine the pain and distress that must cause?

I have a friend who is a transwoman and she is the kindest most gentle soul you could ever meet so hearing her being referred to as a bloke in a dress or that she has a perverted fetish is just heartbreaking.

Can't we just show a little bit of empathy for these people who have been through so much pain already?

The hatred towards trans people reminds me of all the hate we used to have towards gay people and black people. Of course we look back at this in horror now so one day we will look back on out hatred towards trans people in horror.

Born with a penis = male.

I'm not sure why that concept is so hard to grasp, really...

Gallavich · 22/03/2017 12:49

Yawn
Read one of the 10 billion threads and you might learn something

AgathaMystery · 22/03/2017 12:50

Not really.

There are some in the trans community who are taking the piss out of women, what it means to be a woman, what it means to be born and raised as a woman and what it means to have those rights eroded.

They can bore off.

DesignedForLife · 22/03/2017 12:50

It would be nice to go one day without another trans thread tbh.

WorraLiberty · 22/03/2017 12:51

Oh Christ, can you not get your answer from the millions of threads on this bloody subject?

Or did you really have to name change and start yet another thread?

IamFriedSpam · 22/03/2017 12:52

YANBU. I think it's just one of those things. Traditionally the feminist movement, while I agree with 98% of what they say has very anti-trans elements and I think that leaks out to places like this which are very feminist (for the most part I love feminism). There are also some nut jobs that attach themselves to trans movements talking about debunked theories about brain issues so that can give the anti trans people more confidence in their nasty view points.

Trans people suffer more from discrimination than any other marginalised group, are incredibly vulnerable and at high risk of suicide and self harm.

Confused oh no......

glenthebattleostrich · 22/03/2017 12:52

No they are transwomen.

I think in many years to come we will be horrified at how biology was ignored and women subjected to such misogynistic attitudes.

I'd suggest you educate yourself on the realities of the trans activists and the damage they are doing to 'regular' trans people as well as women and children.

BeyondUser24601 · 22/03/2017 12:52

You have clearly read precisely zero threads on the subject :)

ImFuckingSpartacus · 22/03/2017 12:53

And no, they aren't, you epic GF.

I'm not transphobic. Trans people don't scare me.

The liberal agenda that demands we bend over backwards and open our rightful spaces to accommodate men does though.

MrsJayy · 22/03/2017 12:54

Why dont you ask on the billion and one threads on the go instead of starting another one.

Transwomen are transwomen, not women.

There is no transphobia on MN. Women objecting to and discussing being silenced, othered and erased is not transphobia. Educate yourself.

InfiniteSheldon · 22/03/2017 12:56

Trans rights do not and should not trump women's rights. A woman is born and has grown up as such suffering/enjoying/benefiting and fighting as such. A trans woman's has grown up as a trans woman suffering/enjoying/benefiting and fighting as such. One is not the same or better or worse than the other they are though different things. The real problem is self-identifying and gaining access to women's safe spaces whilst in possession of a penis/ that puts women's rights back in the dark ages and we should all be able to see the problem.

Morphene · 22/03/2017 12:56

I am no more trans phobic than I am anorexia phobic. I have every respect for people who include themselves in either of those categories. They should face absolutely no discrimination at work or in society. I honestly don't care which toilets any of them want to use, how they want to dress, or who they want to sleep with.

However, I don't think either group should be encouraged to damage their bodies.

I don't think people with anorexia should be told 'yes hun, you are a bit fat' and supported to keep losing weight till they die, I think they should be given counselling and support to accept their bodies as they are.

I don't think people with gender disphoria should be told 'yes hun, you really are in the wrong sex body' and supported to take drugs and have surgery to destroy functioning sex organs, I think they should be given counselling and support to accept their bodies as they are.

Nellooo · 22/03/2017 12:56

As gallavich said, read some of the other threads, esp the active ones on the Feminism boards. You'll learn a lot - I have.

Biscuit

Why do randoms keep popping up posting new threads saying everyone is transphobic?

Why not post on the trans threads.

SansComic · 22/03/2017 12:59

Read the other threads and you'll see why MN'ers hate them.

This has been done to death.

You'll be asking what's so wrong with men next Hmm

TheHouseOfIllRepute · 22/03/2017 13:00

Biology is phobia Grin
Born in the wrong body Confused
Educate yourself OP. A man cannot decide what makes a woman
It is impossible to know what another person feels like so at best they can feel like their idea of what a woman is
A mans idea of a woman

user1490186326 · 22/03/2017 13:00

Being trans is not the same as being anorexic though. I think it's more comparable to being gay.
