I’ve been busy in that there have always been people around for the last few days so have missed 3 days - though I’d got ahead of myself and am back at day 10.
Interested to see how I go after 3 days off (which is unusual for me). It just goes to show that I have to do it daily or I’d get out of the habit. I’ve been procrastinating for half an hour and here I am still procrastinating.
For everyone who can’t do all the bits - if it gives you hope I could barely do any of the bits! Now I can do most of them. To the point where I take it for granted - and the only thing I’ve done differently is stick to daily practice - specifically move.
What finally worked for me also was the realisation that I had to work to nail the bits that were a struggle.
For me - down dog - my right foot was never aligned properly and my neck and shoulders were twisting to compensate so I really, really focussed on do it it correctly for a few weeks - which felt wrong/hurt/almost convinced me it was physiological- and now I’ve got muscle memory so do it right all the time. Even on stiff days when my heels don’t want to stay down I know I’m doing it right and they will warm up eventually.
Ditto tabletop - I was broadly on my hands and knees but my right arm was never straight and I was wonky. I certainly didn’t push away evenly from the earth and wasn’t really flexing my back. So I consciously spent time making sure that I was doing it right all the time - even if I had to pause the video and spend time repeating that bit a few times. Slightly boring but it’s made a real difference because now I get that right, transitions are easier - actually everything is that much easier.
it helps I’ve got a very bit picky riding instructor who is fierce about the basics and I when I do exactly as she says I can see that getting the basics right means the more advanced stuff is a million times easier. So I’ve tried to apply that to my yoga. This will mean nothing to non riders but it’s the principle that of you can ride a perfect corner you can ride a half decent leg yield/half pass (working in the latter - it’s my riding crow!)
hope that make sense - it’s what’s worked for me.
now to the mat where no doubt I will ignore all of my advice and just muddle through.
