Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Day 21 was 'interesting'. No problem with wide apart bends, but not quite sure how my dodgy knee coped with the side sit thing. I was very definitely an ugly frog for that! Will see how everything feels in the morning!

coffeecow · 22/01/2019 21:48

@Habadabadoo not sure if it got to the floor anywhere remotely in the right place, I sort of just kept going and half toppled there then stayed put! It wasn't remotely like Adriene's!! But something to keep working on I suppose!!

@chutneypig I've no idea what they are called either - I couldn't work out if your bum was to go to the floor or not?!

eurochick · 22/01/2019 21:53

Day 20 done. I was really struggling with balance today even though it was the kind of session I can usually do quite well. I guess it was just an off day. I'll see what 21 brings tomorrow.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 22/01/2019 22:08

Day17 done. I was hoping to do 2 a day until I caught up but I wasn't feeling great.

I've got a quiet weekend so hopefully I can catch up then.

whitershadeofpale · 22/01/2019 22:48

Day 21 done. I’d like to revisit the frogs as I think my form was off. The window screen wipers, crossed leg thing was blissful.

I’ve got my 1:1 lesson tomorrow so I might do double on Thursday. Unless I feel up to an early start and do it before work.

piglet81 · 22/01/2019 23:50

Doubled up again today - 20 and 21. I really wasn't feeling it to start with and fidgeted through most of 20 but enjoyed 21 (especially the windscreen wipers - I agree with pp, blissful!).

My ankles are terribly inflexible so no hope of getting feet anywhere near flat in those frog poses but I'm trying to accept that I'm where I need to be, as Adriene says Smile I definitely feel it's doing me good overall!

daisychain01 · 23/01/2019 04:07

Setting my intention early - I must do Day 21 Light and day 22 Steady today after finishing work.

wfh today, thank goodness, its do-able to go downstairs and get on the mat, a real test of will power to get through the door after my drive home and get into my gear and onto the mat within minutes, esp when I can smell the gorgeous aromas of dinner being cooked!).

Can't wait for those windscreen-wiper legs Grin

daisychain01 · 23/01/2019 04:10

How does your 1 to 1 session work whitershadeofpale ? I can imagine it's really helpful for technique having someone there to observe your postures and correct any little glitches.

noodlezoodle · 23/01/2019 06:58

Really enjoyed today although I definitely had to do the 'modified frog' thing, there's no way on earth my foot would have gone flat to the floor. Not sure if it's my tight hamstrings or something else.

I've done yoga on and off for years and one of the things I love about it is that if you look around in class, almost everyone has things that they find very easy and other things that they find their body just won't do, and it's different for everyone, and completely down to different body types. I think Adriene is really good at suggesting helpful modifications and I'm finding it really helpful to remember that if I can't do something, it's perhaps not because I'm not trying hard enough, but maybe because I'm not built that way.

GreenHatHacker · 23/01/2019 07:52

Day 22 done early - I really enjoyed the 'steady' pace - although some of the descents to belly were more flops than controlled! Needed to use the supporting foot to get through side plank - proper side planks have gone into the 'something to work up to' category!

GreenHatHacker · 23/01/2019 07:54

Oh and I think Adriene has snow outside her window, to match our conditions today! See if you agree or if it's just the light. I'm only watching on my iPad, not a big screen.

whitershadeofpale · 23/01/2019 09:32

@daisychain01 I’m not sure yet as I’ve never had one before. I did a favour for one of my instructors and she offered me one as a thanks.

I’m hoping for lots of adjustments. I’ve only really been doing practice at home this month so I’m sure there’s things where my alignment is out. I’ll feedback to you all.

Espoleta · 23/01/2019 09:34

Hi ladies. I’m back. I had to fly half way around the world as my mum got ill but I am thinking or doubling (or trippiling??) up to get myself back up to speed. Did it daily before the news and already feel better for doing two sessions today. Think I’ll get the same effects if I double or triple up?

Redpriestandmozart · 23/01/2019 09:52

Day 22 done, side planks are not my friend, my wrists were not designed to support 3/4 of my body weight but I did some. Glad to get that one done early.

Cherrypi · 23/01/2019 10:08

Anyone else not able to find day 22?

AugustRose · 23/01/2019 10:08

Espoleta I hope your mum is doing OK, I would just double up and you'll soon catch up. I find trying to do too much means I can hurt myself as I stop focussing by just trying to get it done.

Day 21 was good and seemed to go really quickly but OMG day 22 - those side planks are tough and my arms were wobbly - I did actually fall over at one point Grin Note to self: accept your limitations!

AugustRose · 23/01/2019 10:11

@Cherrypi I got it through my e-mail but it doesn't seem to be appearing on her channel yet. Try this link:

Cherrypi · 23/01/2019 10:42

Thank you. I found it by searching for day 22.

Spudlet · 23/01/2019 11:47

How is today's on the knees? I just managed to slip over chasing DS and hyperextended my worse knee again 🙄 It feels ok, but are there many wide legged folds in this one? That's the one that gets me (as well as the sidey wotsits from yesterday!).

visca · 23/01/2019 14:08

Did 22 first thing this morning. Side planks were really tough. I want to come back to this one again, because it's going to take a while to master!

quirkychick · 23/01/2019 14:21

I found the pace a bit slow this morning, so I fast forwarded some of the waffle Grin. I managed the side planks better on the left than the right, weirdly, as it's usually the other way round!

So true about different bodies managing some poses than others. Though, there are some things I can do now, that I used to not manage at all.

BlessThisMess · 23/01/2019 16:11

I couldn't find day 22 but did day 20 instead seeing as I had missed it!

Cherrypi · 23/01/2019 16:25

She is funny when she starts "we're going to get straight on it" and that chats away for a few minutes.

Gumpendorf · 23/01/2019 18:24

Day 21 and most of Day 22 completed. I manage the first round of side planks but I had to stop because I am feeling very nauseous. Too much head hanging I think. I like the side planks (with the supporting leg) even though her YT picture made them look daunting. I'm another who would like to go back to them again.

Going to try and get my equilibrium back now. 😊

OP posts:
Habadabadoo · 23/01/2019 18:31

Just done day 23 and I had to use the supporting for sure planks too!
@Espoleta how is your mum? Do you have jet lag as well as a lot of stress? Don't go too crazy with the yoga - hopefully one or two sessions a day will help relax you though.
@Spudlet have you tried today's yet? I think it may be ok on the knees?
