Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Gumpendorf · 30/12/2018 11:00

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

The Five Parks stuff varies. Some of the workouts are definitely not fit novices but you can't really tell before you give it a go. Adriene is definitely better for modifications.

eurochick · 20/01/2019 10:20

For not fit!

Ietthemeatcake · 20/01/2019 10:55

Day 18 and 19 done today as I missed yesterday. I couldn't do the one near the start of today where you push forward from cross legged, but I enjoyed both sessions nonetheless. Namaste all

AugustRose · 20/01/2019 11:57

Thanks for the link to Sweaty Betty - but yes sale only prices for me I think.

I liked Day 19, I have tried the pranayama breath in other sessions when she doesn't mention to do it, I'm not sure if it is adding anything to my yoga but I try Hmm

I love lizard pose and can stay there for a while - I think the reason I prefer it to normal low lunges is because in the low lunge my boobs get in the way, and in lizard they don't Grin

Coffeecoffeebuzzbuzzbuzz · 20/01/2019 13:06

I’m miles behind due to dd and then ds getting a bug but I am persevering - day 5 yesterday. I may not be doing it daily but am enjoying it when I get the opportunity and will do all 30 days. Am also going to look into a regular class (which will be booked in the diary!)

quirkychick · 20/01/2019 15:02

eurochick I did really enjoy the Five Parks Rise & Shine and would definitely do it again, but it's no Adriene gentle morning yoga Smile. I often do Shiva Rea and hers can be similarly challenging but with lots of Californian new age stuff. I can feel my glutes, that's for sure!

Gumpendorf · 20/01/2019 16:11

Day 18 and 19 done today. I enjoyed day 18 but thought Day 19 was a bit meh. I really wasn't in the mood for the breathing and my mind kept wondering what else I could be doing.
None the less it's done and it's onward. I'm going to have to double up a lot this week as I've got a few very long days.

👏👏👏 everyone. x

Well done everyone.
I've just done today's and so glad it was an easy slow one!

cheminotte · 20/01/2019 17:16

Did day 18 by mistake today so will have to do day 17 tomorrow.
YouTube always shows me the most recent video (in amongst all the other stuff that reflect what DS has been watching) and then I have to remember what day I’m up to and find it.

KickBishopBrennanUpTheArse · 20/01/2019 17:44

I just did day 16 after a 2 day gap. It was very easy and lovely. I'll try to catch up again after tomorrow.

I don't want it to end Sad

itssquidstella · 20/01/2019 18:09

I really enjoyed day 19 (although my feet got cold during the initial pranayama!). I have very tight hip flexors but I felt so much more open by the end of the practice - I could fully relax in child's pose with my knees together, which I usually find too painful. I might have to come back to that lizard variation, I think it helped.

jamaisjedors · 20/01/2019 18:31

Getting behind here, skipped two days because I was away with no wifi and then had my IRL yoga class too, so only just done day 15.

I feel a bit sad to be out of sync with most of you, but interested to read what's coming up. It's quite nice to know I'll be doing it til mid-February and I'm trying to stick to ALMOST every day if at all possible - taking the time for myself is something I struggle with and I'm pleased I'm insisting on it with my family.

DeadBod · 20/01/2019 19:15

Day 19 done. Thoroughly enjoyed the lizard lunge but got a bit fed up of the breathing bits, I was itching to just get going.
YouTube recommends other yoga workouts when I log on to Adriene so I've been saving them and will have a go once these 30 days are done. I can't believe that I've not attempted yoga previously and that I've been missing out on all these lovely stretches. I've changed my fitness routine recently, doing more weights, so this compliments my workout perfectly.
We'll be on thread 2 before we know it.

whitershadeofpale · 20/01/2019 20:00

Day 19 done. I went for a long walk earlier and then had a good go on Just Dance, so the leg stretches were very welcome 😂

Spudlet · 20/01/2019 20:00

Day 19 done. It didn't feel like enough, so redid day 7 afterwards (chosen randomly as a short one becuase dh is sitting in the kitchen while I take over the living room and I feel a bit guilty!) - really enjoyed the two together, will do again. I like the faster flows, it feels like I've done something - although I enjoy the stretches, I like it when they're thrown in with the vinyasas.

Appreciated the warning about the slow start today - I kept my socks and cardigan on until it got going a bit!

coffeecow · 20/01/2019 20:17

Enjoyed day 19. I usually struggle with all the breathing but it clicked today and really helped me (almost!) get my head to the ground in the crossed legged forward fold - a first for me.
Thanks for the warning about the slow start. Kept my socks on today Grin

Samb79 · 20/01/2019 20:48

I did day 19 this morning then an hour and a half paddle boarding this afternoon and my back is killing me. I really thought all the hard work in yoga had helped, and hadn’t had any twinges in the morning at all, but the minute I got off the water my lower back has done nothing but twang!
Hope it’s feeling a bit better tomorrow, I’ve been so proud of myself for sticking to the 30 days!

Talisin · 20/01/2019 22:11

Days sixteen and seventeen in the bag books. Not sure I’m going to be quite able to catch up again now as I just can’t do it on Tuesday and Wednesdays so I keep getting more behind. Irritating, but oh well. Enjoyed both sessions today but didn’t realise they’d both be so gentle. Feel well stretched though.

eurochick · 20/01/2019 22:12

I'm catching up. Just did Day 18. I really liked that one.

piglet81 · 20/01/2019 22:21

Did days 18 and 19 today as yesterday was a write-off. I loved that criss-cross moving up the mat thing (she said, inarticulately...) and the lizard pose too.

Wishing everyone a good week ahead Smile

visca · 20/01/2019 23:22

Count me as another one who found Day 19 a bit of a bore. The lizard bit was fun, but the breathing felt like it went on far too long, especially in such a short practice!

Ulysses · 21/01/2019 07:24

Day 20 in the books and I found it quite hard going in parts but good overall. It was a vinyasa practice and my right arm is still a bit wobbly from the combination of lunges and planks and downward dogs. Definitely got my heart going that one!

quirkychick · 21/01/2019 07:37

Day 20 here too. After the extra vinyasa session I did yesterday, my arms are really feeling it today. Quite fast, it should warm everybody up. To anyone with back twinges, you can always move from plank to downward dog via all fours, it puts less pressure on your core and lower back, I know I've done this modification when my back's been fussy.

Ietthemeatcake · 21/01/2019 09:04

Not just me with sore arms on day 20 then! Enjoyed that but it was tougher than I expected.
