Dedicate: 30 days of Yoga with Adriene

Anyone else doing the 2019 Yoga with Adriene 30 day programme?

The details are here

do.yogawithadriene.com/p/dedicate

It's free and the videos are posted on YT each day. You can sign up via the above link and you get a daily e-mail or via her YT channel.

I joined in for the first time in 2018 and loved it. The community of MNers to share experiences and provide encouragement kept me going to the end.

And I'm ...err ..not young! I'd only done a couple of yoga classes before but have continued an ad hoc basis since. I remember stiffly lowering myself to the floor on day 1 and feeling extraordinarily flexible about 14 days later. I'm hoping I can recover some of that this year!

Day 20 done. Slower with lots of wide-legged poses. The one-legged foggy (skandasana) was really hard, so I modified it as a forward fold to one side, which is how I've done it before - my hips and hamstrings are not that flexible! I added a few core strengthening poses to the end too.

I'd love to follow a February thread. I was only thinking today about what to do next! I'm all caught up now I've rested my back for a couple of days. Thanks for the suggestion of her video for lower back pain on here. I did three sessions today ( modified a bit here and there) and feel so happy that I'm following it all again Smile

@whitershadeofpale I'd be keen for a follow up thread!

Have I missed something? Does Adriene do daily videos in February too?

cheminotte · 22/01/2019 16:48

Done day 19 and now I know what you were talking about with your lizards!

quirkychick · 22/01/2019 16:54

After January they are weekly but Adriene does a calendar each month with suggestions.

Gumpendorf · 22/01/2019 17:12

I'm umlikely to be home to get Day 21 done today so will double up tomorrow.

Continuing the thread is an excellent idea. Maybe we should set the next thread up as a continuing Yoga/Adriene support thread which would run through Feb. That would mean that those who haven't finished Dedicate are not left behind, as it were. Smile

Becky, glad that the back pain video helped, it's brilliant isn't it!

whitershadeofpale · 22/01/2019 18:18

I think that’s a great idea Gumpendorf

Ulysses · 22/01/2019 19:08

I'd love continue yoga into February! It's really been one of the best things I've done to help my mental health. I'm away to do Day 21 and I see that Day 22 has also been posted for those that are keen to get ahead of the game.

coffeecow · 22/01/2019 19:08

Wow those side thingys (technical term Grin) were tricky! I had to modify to the froggy version. I can get my head to the floor in the wide legged forward fold but a good way forward from my feet which I'm guessing is not how it's supposed to be done!!

Spudlet · 22/01/2019 19:26

Ouch! That hurt my knee. I normally keep a microbend in it at all times to protect it but that sidey wotsit caught it until I managed to correct. Will be approaching that one with caution if I repeat and if you too have wonky knees (mine are due to flat feet!) do be warned, protect your knees when she does that bit!

AugustRose · 22/01/2019 19:45

I'm disappointed but I won't get to do Day 21 today so will have to double up tomorrow. I have had a lovely day though as I joined my youngest son's school on a trip to a buddhist temple in a beautiful setting, followed by a very busy session leading our Beaver's group.

See you tomorrow.

Habadabadoo · 22/01/2019 19:47

@quirkychick thank you. Where can I find this calendar? Will it be on you tube? I hadn't signed up to her emails. - maybe I should?

Bombardier25966 · 22/01/2019 19:51

@Ulysses I can't see Day 22?

@Habadabadoo The monthly calendars are on here...

yogawithadriene.com/calendar/

Gumpendorf · 22/01/2019 20:02

Adriene usually sends out the monthly calendar with her weekly/Sunday e|mail Habadabadoo. Every Sunday there is a new video but existing videos make up the rest of the month. She also creates a playlist on her YT chart for the month so all the videos are in one place.

Tbh, I've found some of the videos to be a bit random (for me) so I haven't been inclined to set time aside on a regular basis. I'm hoping this year it will be different! 😉

Sorry, Bombadier. I hadn't seen your reply when I started tapping out mine. 😊

Ulysses · 22/01/2019 20:05

I got the email about 6.30pm. I've went back to check but the link no longer works so it must have been sent too soon! Oh well.

I've just finished Day 21 and had a good stretch from that. I couldn't get my head to the floor never mind think about a headstand!

Bombardier25966 · 22/01/2019 20:06

No problem! I don't follow the calendars to the letter, I search for what I fancy according to my mood. But if I can't decide it's handy to have one preselected!

FuzzyShadowChatter · 22/01/2019 20:09

I'd love a continued support thread. I've been thinking after this month going through the Foundation series, maybe one of those for learning and one of the longer videos for working out.

Today's was a challenge for my tight hamstrings, and yesterday and today I seem to get a twang in my sternum and ribs (the wide leg forward fold, head all the way down made my lower ribs angry which hasn't happened before). I did think when it happened how many here had commented on twanging backs so of course, it's my front half acting up as my body needs to be complicated and different Grin.

Habadabadoo · 22/01/2019 20:47

Thanks for the calendar links everyone. Hopefully they help keep us motivated in Feb! It's a great idea to get more views. I haven't come across that before.
I've done today's video and couldn't do all the poses. @coffeecow wow you can get your head to the floor that is brilliant!

I struggled massively with those too coffeecow. I was thinking as I did them that I didn’t know what to call them when I posted. I’m very bad at squats in general but not sure why exactly. I can never get as low as anyone around me in a class for example.

Other than that I enjoyed it and have a nice feeling of warmth.

Pootling off now to look at the calendar!
