Teaching. I got out - best thing I ever did!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 28/12/2025 21:52

Teaching. I told ds I’d disinherit him if he went into it.

Dd would never go into it.

Needmorelego · 28/12/2025 21:53

McDonald's apparently has a very good management training scheme and young people can earn decent money from it.
So I wouldn't necessarily discourage it if that's what they want.
Anything customer service (restaurants/retail etc) is usually pretty shit though.

PinkDreamer · 28/12/2025 21:53

Teaching or childcare

xxxwd · 28/12/2025 21:53

Teaching. Call centres.

petitpasta · 28/12/2025 21:56

Nursing. Worked on numerous wards in several hospitals and all had really toxic cultures. Never been bullied myself but my goodness I have seen some terrible behaviour. There's also plenty of ways to pick on people who aren't in the 'in crowd' - allocating the hardest patients, giving the worst shifts, sending people on escort duty just before their shift ends. The ways are endless.

YouCanLetItGo · 28/12/2025 21:57

Teaching.

DC has already said they wouldn’t dream of it seeing what o have to do.

LoopyGremlin · 28/12/2025 21:57

As others have said, teaching! I loved it when I first started but it changed out of all recognition and has become an impossible job.

firstofallimadelight · 28/12/2025 21:58

Social care

EezyOozy · 28/12/2025 21:58

Call centre.
teaching.
nurse.

Loveduppenguin · 28/12/2025 21:59

Teaching!

personally I think everyone should do a stint in retail and/or waiting tables at some point in their life. It definitely builds character and appreciation!!

SoftBalletShoes · 28/12/2025 21:59

PR agency. Stress and bullying and overwork. From clients and from within the agency.

Wonderwoman333 · 28/12/2025 22:00

Nursing, such a toxic, blame culture.

boogietrapps · 28/12/2025 22:00

Teaching. It almost finished me, I would never recommend it. I still work in education but I’m much happier now I’m not a teacher.

CarnationAndPoppy · 28/12/2025 22:01

Teaching. One AC posed the idea which I discouraged.

notnorman · 28/12/2025 22:01

Teaching. Although my dc would never choose it now anyway!!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 28/12/2025 22:02

I've been a teacher for nearly 30 years.
Neither of my DC even considered it!

BitterTits · 28/12/2025 22:02

I wouldn't want my kids to teach or work in the NHS.

IdreamedAdreamINtimesGONEby · 28/12/2025 22:03

Nursing in the NHS
Being a hospital doctor.
Bloody awful jobs.

CarlaLemarchant · 28/12/2025 22:03

Anything involving shift work. Nights and quick rotation between different shifts were so bad for my health, I was constantly run down.

cobrakaieaglefang · 28/12/2025 22:04

Retail- say no more!

Marcipix · 28/12/2025 22:06

Nursery worker.

TheNameWasOnceChosen · 28/12/2025 22:08

Anything that doesnt make you happy.

Minnie798 · 28/12/2025 22:12

Generally speaking, I'd advise against these jobs- nurse , doctor, carer, social worker, retail, the army, any job where you have to work through the Christmas period as standard.
