I wasn't.. I would have been 33 with 7 year old daughter and pregnant with my second.

LadyDanburysHat · 19/09/2025 15:06

I was a receptionist at a country club in NY.

DramaAlpaca · 19/09/2025 15:10

I wasn't working; I was 30, pregnant with my second child and had just taken voluntary redundancy. It was handy as the money meant I could take a career break to be a SAHM for a few years.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 19/09/2025 15:19

I was PA to an MD.

MyAcornWood · 19/09/2025 15:21

I was a waitress in our local pub for £4.16 an hour, saving up to buy my first car. Settled on a T reg three door corsa in metallic blue for £450… crashed her into a hedge within the first few months 😅

Musicaltheatremum · 19/09/2025 15:24

I'd just started as a partner in my GP practice(1994) and retired after 29 years in 2023. It was such a privilege to be a part of people's lives over such a long period. I also went through my pregnancies at the same time as other people and watched their families grow up. It really was a great job though the last 5 years through the funding crisis and COVID nearly broke me. I cried after I saw my last patient as she'd cared for my late husband in the Marie Curie.

Fleetheart · 19/09/2025 15:26

I was in London working for a book club. A lot of fun with a great group of people. Lots of after work drinking and general socialising too. Happy Days!

LandSharksAnonymous · 19/09/2025 15:26

Diplomatic Service! Still in the same job (sort of) 😄

3pears · 19/09/2025 15:27

mamalovebird · 19/09/2025 15:28

I was 24, living in London, and just got my first proper management accountant job after doing transactional finance roles from 19 and studying in the evenings. I'm now an FD, but now up North.

KatieLGriff · 19/09/2025 15:31

I'd just started at the same company I still work for today, one of the high street banks. Although I haven't stayed in the same role , I am 22 years and counting.

Ineedanewsofa · 19/09/2025 15:37

Student and bowling alley receptionist! Neither my degree nor the specifics of that job are remotely related to what I do now

Pinkcherry26 · 19/09/2025 15:39

I had just qualified as a solicitor. Plus ça change.

murasaki · 19/09/2025 15:40

Editorial assistant at a science journal publishing company. Tedious job but great social life as loads of us were new grads who'd just landed in London.

Plastictreees · 19/09/2025 15:40

Working on the Clinique make up counter in John Lewis while at uni. I still miss the discounts!

VegQueen · 19/09/2025 15:41

I was in sixth form but my part time job was shelf stacking in a supermarket

SingingSands · 19/09/2025 15:42

2002 I was temping as a secretary at a top law firm. I remember being paid weekly!

It was the turn around in my life that I needed. I'd failed uni, moved cities from Scotland to England to be with my boyfriend and ended up in a supermarket and a call centre just to make money. When I spotted an advert from a local recruitment agency I jumped at it and ended up in the law firm and it genuinely changed my life.

I'm still in law, ended up as an Executive Assistant 😊

PestoHoliday · 19/09/2025 15:43
