What job were you in when you were half your current age?

I was in six form

I was a media planner.

I was with the same employer (CS) but quite a few grades lower than I am now. Actually started in Child Support, that was a steep learning curve.

I was in sixth form, working evenings and weekends in a pub. I made about £100 a week, and had soft parents who didn't charge rent or anything while I was studying. I felt so rich!

I was working as a dispatcher in a taxi company.

I loved it. Good times.

I was just starting my teaching career. Now I work in teacher education.

Same job, but part time as I was pregnant with baby number three!!

I was in uni, and working part time in a dept store.

The entry level version of the one I currently do at Director level

I was a legal secretary

Features editor on a magazine

I had just started the job I have now. I’ve moved up in rank, but I’ve been here a very long time.

I was a Classroom Assistant then after all the children had gone home, I worked in the school office as an admin support.

I worked in complaints for a call centre. It motivated me into applying for a second degree and a profession.

An electronics technician in a university.
A year later, I left to work as an engineer in the Aerospace industry.

I was 21 and an administrator in my chosen field, I'm now at senior management level in that same field. I feel fortunate that something clicked so early in terms of career path.

Recruitment Manager

I was managing a large camp as part of Operation Haven.

Dear God I am now feeling incredibly old.

I was a primary school teacher working 3 days a week.

I was on maternity leave! From a nursery

Waitressing for the princely sum of £2.50 an hour (plus tips which were thankfully decent)

Art Director children's publishing

Low level admin in a university department, mostly answering emails and chasing academics for their homework 🤣

Senior policy wonk in the public sector

I was 20, working in a chocolate shop or a gym call centre (not entirely sure!). I was about a year away from starting my first care job which led to me deciding to go to university to study nursing. I'm now a clinical lead in my chosen nursing specialism.
