You're all very right but it amuses me to push the boundaries somewhat

Are you mad? There's pushing boundaries and being downright rude! With your attitude you'd be lucky to find another job!

MyrtleHope · 04/12/2024 21:01

Wow. No redundancy package would make me be so rude and unpleasant.

MarmaladeSideDown · 04/12/2024 19:04

I didn't get where I am today by not noticing these things.

Haha, you’ve captured it brilliantly 😁

Pixiedust88 · 04/12/2024 21:45

I had a IDGAF attitude after I’d handed my notice in to the point I challenged and ridiculed the “head of department” during meetings because he was an idiot. He said during one meeting with all the assistants there that he shouldn’t have to be telling them how to do their job. I couldn’t help myself say that WE shouldn’t have to be chasing him to do HIS job as if we’d done something we needed his advice/approval on and he left it sitting in his inbox for ages leading to the application we’d made being cancelled he’d be having a go at us for not doing our job when it was actually him not doing his job. He didn’t like me way before I handed my notice in because I told him numerous times I didn’t work for him, I worked for one of the directors of the company and answered to him directly. He also tried telling me he needed his own assistant and I was going to be his at which point I flat out told him I wouldn’t and if he didn’t like it to take it up with the director who had hired me specifically to work for him and him alone. It got to the point where we were openly hostile to each other and he couldn’t do anything about it because of the director I worked for. He tried to have me disciplined for taking unauthorised smoking breaks (I don’t smoke) being late (I was late once and it was because I’d had to turn round and rush my husband from home to the eye infirmary because he lost the sight in his one eye) and unauthorised absence from work (I’d called the director I worked for and not him). HR laughed him out the room telling him I’d rang in when I was going to be late and when I was off sick and they had a record of me doing that and that they couldn’t discipline me for taking unauthorised smoking breaks because they knew I didn’t smoke. I laughed my way out of the building when I left knowing that they’d have to take on three people to do my job because no one else in the company could do it

Think you’re confusing getting made redundant with getting sacked . You may want to rethink

They won't make your role redundant they'll sack you for poor performance or misconduct. You won't get a payout for that

DisabledDemon · 04/12/2024 22:00

What you're actually in line for is a disciplinary action which may or may not lead to dismissal for gross misconduct. If that happens, when you apply for another job, the company will disclose why you were let go, thus reducing your chances of getting another role.

This thread just keeps on giving with all the HR info. Which is actually part of my job and I'm qualified but I didn't feel the need to explain to the OP.

I think if was either meant to be a lighthearted thread or a wind up. I'm not sure.

The funniest thing for me is the responses. Some of you need to chill the fuck out.

Also, Mumsnet can be so boring with some of the boring questions people ask.

Wooky073 · 05/12/2024 10:04

Surely you mean you want to get dismissed for breaching contract of employment? Roles are made redundant and the person in that role is paid redundancy pay. Being rude is nothing to do with redundancy.

I would seriously rethink your approach. Being dismissed from a job is not a good life strategy for future employment and references.

I’ve been in jobs where I’ve definitely wanted to behave like this but didn’t because I needed to pay my rent. It’s fine to push those ‘polite’ boundaries if you’ve literally nothing to lose as a consequence of losing your job (nice lottery win just came up), otherwise you might find yourself in a bit of a bind.

You work with hr and think it's OK to tell people to chill the fuck out?

I can't take anything on this thread seriously.

Starting with both comments on the original text conversation to the people tripping over themselves to explain the same thing to the OP.

I do basic HR. We use a well known company which deals with most things. I'm very professional at work though.

Again, your comment to me has proved how uptight people get on here.

Adkim · 05/12/2024 16:26

This is so ridiculous and boring. The OP must have lost her marbles

Have you ever met some of the people in HR? Not the most likeable bunch a lot of the time.

To be honest. My boss told me I was too nice to be a proper HR person.

Some of the posters having a pile on on the OP are perfect for the role.

@NewBootsWeather You are not HR, much less an employment lawyer. Bear in mind a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Why is everyone so snippy? it was pointless thread that the op has clearly left

I am not the one belittling the OP and being a Bully. Get over yourself and stop using Mumsnet to try and get one over on people.

I was sticking up for the OP. Everyone knows the difference between redundancy and getting the sack.

Get a life.

Are you the OP? You just quoted me twice but forgot to change your user name the second time.
