How do you sign off on work Emails?

I used to sign off Kind regards but DD28 says this is very bad!! and at least change it to Best Regards.
I am re-joining the workforce after several years out so am a bit clueless on the correct sign off etiquette. So how do you do it?

Always say kind regards. Not sure what is wrong with that.

FinallyFree2022 · 22/02/2022 08:58

If I'm really annoyed a plain regards for me.

Nothing wrong with kind regards or best regards.

Just not "best". So twatish.

User76745333 · 22/02/2022 08:58

what on earth is wrong with kind regards?

Dumblebum · 22/02/2022 08:58

Thanks, and then my first name below that usually.

I don’t like kind or best regards,

ChessieFL · 22/02/2022 08:59

I say kind regards!

Enough4me · 22/02/2022 08:59

Generally best wishes inside my organisation and kind regards for external, I don't recall seeing best regards before.

Goandplay · 22/02/2022 09:00

I say kind regards.

How do you open an email? Dear whoever or good afternoon. Or hi?

Rummikub · 22/02/2022 09:00

I never know!
I either say thanks or just my name.

I feel
Uncomfortable with any regards!

MintyGreenDream · 22/02/2022 09:01

Many thanks Blush

It's pretty relaxed though where I work, not corporate or anything similar

SirChenjins · 22/02/2022 09:03

It depends - if it’s a formal email then I sign off with ‘kind regards’, if it’s less formal then ‘thanks’. I’ve never seen ‘best regards’.

I also never start an email with just the person’s name, I find it rude - always ‘hello’ or ‘hi’.

Comefromaway · 22/02/2022 09:04

I just put "Regards". Kind sounds too personal and informal.

And I would never say Hi at the start of a business email, that is far too familiar.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/02/2022 09:07

Regards.

Used to be kind regards but I don't regard them kindly.

My workmate puts "kindest" which to mean sounds a bit passive aggressive. Just put see you in hell and be done with it Grin

GreenWhiteViolet · 22/02/2022 09:07

I open with Dear Title Surname if it's someone I don't know, or Dear Firstname otherwise.

Then finish with 'Best wishes', which still seems a bit casual to me in some circumstances as I got used to 'yours sincerely/faithfully' on paper, but that would seem odd now in my workplace!

I don't generally mind what other people use, as long as it isn't just 'best' which doesn't make sense. Best what?

ralanne · 22/02/2022 09:07

I've worked in a few different environments and would say "Kind regards" is the most common and standard email sign off.

Personally, If formal I say

Good morning x...
Kind regards
Ralanne

If informal

Hi x...
Thanks
Ralanne

HunterHearstHelmsley · 22/02/2022 09:08

Agree with never just starting with a name. If I got something that just said "Hunter" with no niceties it would likely go to the bottom of the to do list. I wouldn't prioritise someone who can't be arsed to be polite.

piglet81 · 22/02/2022 09:08

I usually put ‘best wishes’. ‘Regards’ and ‘kind regards’ always make me feel scratchy for some reason!

What's wrong with
Kind regards ????

Scarby9 · 22/02/2022 09:10

Thank you

Even if they haven't done anything and I haven't asked them to do anything. It just feels the least cringey to me!

LaCerbiatta · 22/02/2022 09:11

I thought 'best' was friendly and informal ☹. Why is it twatish??

BreakingUpWithMyPhone · 22/02/2022 09:11

@Scarby9

Thank you

Even if they haven't done anything and I haven't asked them to do anything. It just feels the least cringey to me!

'Thank you for letting me tell you this thing.' 😄

Yes, I wonder what I'm thanking people for sometimes too.

WhatsitWiggle · 22/02/2022 09:11

I always put Kind regards. Best regards looks odd to me, like it's mixed up best wishes and kind regards.

HoppingPavlova · 22/02/2022 09:12

I use Kind Regards and most mails I see do also. Have never seen Best Regards. The only other option I see is Thanks if it’s an internal mail with someone you know well and have a well established informal relationship with.

ItWasARayGun · 22/02/2022 09:12

I use kind regards, it's fine!

StrawberryLollipops · 22/02/2022 09:13

My team - Regards
