How do you sign off on work Emails?

I used to sign off Kind regards but DD28 says this is very bad!! and at least change it to Best Regards.
I am re-joining the workforce after several years out so am a bit clueless on the correct sign off etiquette. So how do you do it?

I use "Best" - quick, easy and (I think it's) polite. I rarely change it based on situation etc. And people can infer from it what they wish!

Best what though?
TicTacHoh · 22/02/2022 09:39

'Kind Regards,' so that when someone pisses you off you can replace it with the passive aggressive 'Regards'.

Best Regards is odd.

SockFluffInTheBath · 22/02/2022 09:40

Mine is part of a signature and says:

Regards,

Sock Fluff

If it’s a more personal email (note to someone leaving etc) I’ll add Sock at the end of the message above the automatic signature. Or if it’s someone who’s gone the extra mile to support something I’ll change the Regards to Many thanks. It’s a very professional company where emojis and things like Best or Kind regards are frowned upon.

CaptainMal · 22/02/2022 09:40

@Sparklingbrook whatever they want. I really don't care! And it doesn't seem to have impeded my career.

theemmadilemma · 22/02/2022 09:40

Internally and externally to those with an existing relatioship:

Thanks, Myname

Externally with no existing relationship:

Kind regards, Myname

LaCerbiatta · 22/02/2022 09:40

I definitely won't be using it again then!! had no idea 🙁

SamMil · 22/02/2022 09:41

I use:
"Kind regards," - standard sign off, slightly more formal.
"Thanks," - slightly less formal, within my team etc.
"Many thanks," - if I've asked someone to do something.
"Regards," - if someone has really pissed me off.

Ragwort · 22/02/2022 09:41

Sparkling totally agree, what exactly is the point of 'I hope you are well', I have a long running complaint going on and the person I am dealing with is always icily polite in a passive aggressive sort of way but always says 'I hope you are well' at the beginning of his emails ..... why? Confused.

Theonlyoneiknow · 22/02/2022 09:43

Depends on who the email is to and what the subject matter is ie/ if I'm asking them to do something - so either

Regards
Many Thanks
Kind Regards
Best Wishes

Some colleagues even abbreviate it to BR (as in best regards!)

rubbishatballet · 22/02/2022 09:46

Best wishes is my standard, neutral sign off.

Thanks is either when I'm pissed off with someone I don't know that well (generally internal) OR could also be genuine thanks to someone in my own team if it's a quick email request.

Many thanks is a genuine thank you to someone I don't know that well and/or outside of my own team.

PhilofDelphia · 22/02/2022 09:46

I don't like best. Pisses me right off.

Regards is very blunt.

I use best wishes or kind regards.

Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2022 09:47

I am sure it hasn't-why would it. It's not really about that but how the recipient thinks about the sign off.
I am Hmm at 'Best' but I wouldn't bother feeding it back!

I know someone who ends emails BW. I don't feel they are giving me their best wishes if they can't even type the words 😢😂

Yes, trying to apply the personal touch and failing because it's empty and means nothing unless you actually know the person.
Sparklingbrook · 22/02/2022 09:50

'Best wishes'=birthday card.

Oblomov22 · 22/02/2022 09:51

When someone says depends on who the emails being sent to? Who has time? Haven't change my signature on my email email signature panel for the last 20 years seriously who has time to change it per email?

helloisitmeyourelookingfor · 22/02/2022 09:52

Kind regards if it's a pleasant exchange

Regards if I'm mildly annoyed

And just my name if I'm really pissed off

Comefromaway · 22/02/2022 09:53

Our signature has our name, job title and company details on. It doesn't have the sign off on.

Same here. You have to input a sign off every time.
CornishTiger · 22/02/2022 09:54

Kind regards, cheers, let me know what you think, give me a call to discuss if you want, speak soon ,

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 22/02/2022 09:55

I use 'Regards'or 'Many thanks'.
If the person I'm corresponding with has been a twat I just put my name Grin.

SheWoreYellow · 22/02/2022 09:56

Kind regards if it’s someone I don’t know well, otherwise, Thanks,

But I’d say just use kind regards on the formal ones while you’re working out what people do. It can be a bit industry specific.

Beachsidesunset · 22/02/2022 09:57

Best Regards sounds awful.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 22/02/2022 10:03

@StrawberryLollipops

Telling someone off or formal - Kind regards My team - Regards I have asked for a favour - Many thanks ( you gotta earn this one)
Your team will think you don't like them.

Regards is a wonderful PA response for situations in work where you can't be honest and call them a nob.

Although I like kindest regards mentioned up thread. That is also delightfully PA.

Best regards would make me think the sender wasn't very bright.
