How do you sign off on work Emails?

I used to sign off Kind regards but DD28 says this is very bad!! and at least change it to Best Regards.
I am re-joining the workforce after several years out so am a bit clueless on the correct sign off etiquette. So how do you do it?

@Allsorts1

If anyone signs off “best” I assume they hate my guts
Me too. I only use that if I'm really pissed off with someone.

We used Thanks internally in the UK office, and I use(d) Regards with (freelance) clients.

Myadhdusername · 22/02/2022 23:34

I prefer to sign off 'thanks' even in situations where I have nothing to thank them for. I suppose I'm thanking them for taking the time to read my email?

MrsSugar · 22/02/2022 23:36

I put kind regards or thank you then my name. I rarely put regards… only if I was really pissed off lol when I get a regards email I think ooh moody lol

Mistressiggi · 22/02/2022 23:40

Anyone else going to be analysing every email they get tomorrow?

Thamesis · 22/02/2022 23:44

I put 'With regards' if I don't know them. Am I evil?GrinGrin

Monkeytennis97 · 22/02/2022 23:45

@LaCerbiatta

I thought 'best' was friendly and informal ☹. Why is it twatish??
I think it's twatish too. 'Best' what? Lazy writing and blunt with it.
HousePlant9 · 22/02/2022 23:53

I also put sad and smiley faces on my work emails.
And kisses if I feel like (but not to opp sex, lord no )

Boxbox2 · 22/02/2022 23:53

I know someone who just signs off 'From [name]' which I adore and secretly wish I had the balls to do.

Rummikub · 23/02/2022 01:50

From tomorrow/ today all do the above
From Rummikub

dipdye · 23/02/2022 02:06

Hate kind regards

It's :

Thanks,

Dipdye

ralanne · 23/02/2022 07:50

@BitOutOfPractice

Depends on how well I know them!

Formal:
Good morning X. Hope you are well.
-
Kind regards
Bit

Know them well

Hi X. Good weekend? / feeling better? / how's your mom? (as appropriate - I don't ask about someone's mom unless they've told me something about their mom)

Thanks!
B

I one had to take a colleague (not British but working in Britain) aside and tell him that signing his emails "sunny greetings" would likely see him dead by teatime.

I like "sunny greetings"! Smile

Might try that now!

WeaverofWords · 23/02/2022 12:31

This thread has reminded me of someone who would sign off work emails: “Affectionately and authentically yours”
🤣😂

BitOutOfPractice · 23/02/2022 12:37

@ralanne you’re clearly not a grump like me 😬

SirChenjins · 23/02/2022 12:50

@WeaverofWords

This thread has reminded me of someone who would sign off work emails: “Affectionately and authentically yours” 🤣😂
I LOVE that!! Unless it was sent as an obviously snarky sign off who wouldn't smile if that got that at the end of an email?

I'd love to have the nerve to sign off with a 'Love SirChenjins xxx' just to see if anyone said anything (I'd use my real name obvs, that would just be weird)

WeaverofWords · 23/02/2022 13:51

It’s rather cute!
I always feel like divining off:
“I remain your humble servant,
Weaver”

WeaverofWords · 23/02/2022 13:54

Signing, not divining 😄

ukborn · 23/02/2022 14:40

I don't write formal emails, but writing to some one I don't know in an letter I would write Dear Ms Blogs. In an email I'd just write Ms Blogs. I'd sign off thank you then my name, or depending, 'looking forward to hearing from you'; 'thank you for your attention to this matter' and then my name.

Stroopwaffle5000 · 23/02/2022 14:45

I work for the NHS and we all say Kind regards, unless we're annoyed with someone, then we remove the 'kind' 🙂

TigerLilyTail · 23/02/2022 14:56

I know a Scottish guy who signs off Aye, Hamish or Yours aye, Hamish

purplecorkheart · 23/02/2022 15:00

It really depends but normally Kind Regards, or Thank you. Someone I work with often uses Kindest Regards.

KimchiWithMe · 23/02/2022 16:45

Varies

Kind regards
Thank you
Best wishes

What I can't get onboard with is signing off emails with emoji faces. My line manager will end an email with all of the above then a smiley face. To over 600 people.

findingsomeone · 23/02/2022 18:52

I'm 30 and use Kind Regards. I think your DD's opinion is very strange!

burnthur5t · 23/02/2022 19:12

My work email has a signature at the end, I didn't even write it. I think it says regards, don't care tbh

YingMei · 23/02/2022 19:55

I usually put Kind Regards or Best Wishes depending on the situation.
Our current estate agent seeing through our purchase signs off KR 😂. I find it both maddening and hilarious

BashfulClam · 23/02/2022 22:36

E-mail is slightly i formal so I never use ‘Dear xxx’ I use ‘Good Morning/afternoon’ which works well if you are sending it to a mailbox for example and dint have a name. I also sign off ‘kind regards’ or ‘regards’
