How do you sign off on work Emails?

I used to sign off Kind regards but DD28 says this is very bad!! and at least change it to Best Regards.
I am re-joining the workforce after several years out so am a bit clueless on the correct sign off etiquette. So how do you do it?

"With kind regards" or just "Regards".

Depending on the context I sometimes say "I look forward to hearing from you".

Ivyonafence · 24/02/2022 00:45

'Cheers' if we're friendly, or if it's someone below me on the food chain and im trying to seem approachable.

'Kind regards' or 'kind wishes' otherwise.

I don't pay attention to what other people write, but I hate when people start an email with just my name, no 'Hi'. It sounds like a command.

thebadlands · 24/02/2022 00:46

I say

Thanks

Kind regards

Thebadlands

Or sometimes just

Thanks

Tralalalalalalalalalala · 01/10/2022 18:04

I say "Thanks" I would be lying if I wrote "kind regards" or any other sort of regards to 99% of the people I deal with.

Darbs76 · 02/10/2022 07:40

Always ‘Many Thanks’

Metabigot · 02/10/2022 07:48

Usually say kind regards but warm regards as an alternative particularly in the cooler seasons.

Got a resignation letter with 'cold regards ' once. ( not directed at me, I work in HR. Manager wasn't happy!)

goldfinchonthelawn · 02/10/2022 07:50

I put Best Wishes

TheClitterati · 02/10/2022 08:06

There's a scale but I don't usually use kind regards very often anymore. Best regards is very American.

Cheers
Thanks
Kind regards
Many thanks
Very best

Best - I used this for the twats to express things are tense now.
Regards - they are practically dead to me.

I have a few Scandinavian clients and I like the shorthand they use:
KR. Or
p /-

I've worked in a few different environments and would say "Kind regards" is the most common and standard email sign off.

Personally, If formal I say

Good morning x...
Kind regards
Ralanne

If informal

Hi x...
Thanks
Ralanne

I do very similar. Kind regards or many thanks depending on formality. Dear x or hello x for opening. I don't think anyone analyses these in a work environment, it's not something I notice on emails from others.

SideshowAuntSallly · 02/10/2022 11:41

I always say many thanks or sometimes kind regards. As for opening it's always hi or Dear. I had an argument with my manager who told me off for putting hi and dear as apparently we don't put hi or dear on emails just a first name, she even kindly left a copy of my email on my desk with the 'corrections' she had made.🙄 She never won that argument and I carried on being polite and friendly. I've been working for 25 years and don't need telling how to write an email.

WetLettuce2 · 02/10/2022 13:20

Anyone that just puts ‘Lettuce’ with no Hi are literally the spawn of the devil.

SirChenjins · 02/10/2022 15:13

Agree - it’s so bloody rude. You don’t start any other form of communication with just the person’s first name (unless you’re issuing some form of instruction or you’re frustrated with them). Starting an email with SirChenjin reads to me like the person is telling me to do something or is intensely irritated and it will be moved to my ‘to do when I cba’ folder.

Rubbish. These are not letters or formal communication. They are like texts.

All this " Dear so and so" and "kind regards" are the results of the "be kind" brigade, who actually are the biggest two-faced group around.

They are the same people who say "how are you" when you are paying for your shopping in the supermarket and you've never met them before.

They are the same people who say "have a good afternoon" as a throw-away comment when they actually couldn't care less (and why should they) how your afternoon is going to be.

They are the same people who say "what are you doing the rest of the day" 'cos they are pretending to "be kind" and interested in you.

It's all bollocks.

SirChenjins · 02/10/2022 16:26

Yep, it’s all bollocks alright.

Rummikub · 02/10/2022 17:12

With people I’ve known years I don’t even begin with a hi.

I don’t like email pleasantries, mainly as I’m not really sure how to!

genuinelyaskingforafriend · 02/10/2022 18:54

Regards or Kind Regards

BashfulClam · 04/10/2022 07:29

I always put Good Morning, afternoon etc (it’s when you wrote it not when they see it.) I don’t address anyone as ‘Dear x’ as it’s not a handwritten letter or the 1900’s. I sigN off as Kind regards or Regards.
