We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Colourwise…

Claire that's the one I did today, I think I've managed ok but am giving it another go tomorrow

clairethewitch70 · 05/05/2017 23:13

Which square Vitty

Thanks book. It is a little big, not sure how to resize that one, because of the chart.

bookbook · 05/05/2017 23:20

It may depend on your tension Claire - the chart is for 29 stitches and about 40 rows , which for me is about 6"

clairethewitch70 · 05/05/2017 23:27

I usually cast on around 33 and more than 50 rows. I knit quite tight. I tried drawing a squirrel chart yesterday, and it did not come out right at all. The M square was 35 stitches and 55 rows and is perfect size.

bookbook · 05/05/2017 23:28

ah , so could be doable with a border perhaps?

VittysCardigan · 05/05/2017 23:30

The oh nuts one - I cut out most of the border & it's just about 6 x 6, a tiny by over one way (can't remember which way though). Am going to try it again tomorrow as a practice, don't have the right yarn yet so am using SSDK. If it works am happy to send you pics of grid/my written pattern

clairethewitch70 · 05/05/2017 23:32

I frogged the Oh nuts one 4 times, one of the rows just above the leg area didn't look right, every time. Does yours look ok in that area?

VittysCardigan · 05/05/2017 23:34

I think it was ok, will look again in the morning (in bed now Smile)

VittysCardigan · 06/05/2017 13:25

Claire - I have done it again & I like it! Will post a pic on the Kinship Hug thread as I did in one of those colours

VittysCardigan · 07/05/2017 13:29

First square done

WitchDancer · 07/05/2017 14:13

It's lovely Vitty, well worth the frogging, swearing, and heartache!

jolovescakeandwine · 07/05/2017 14:23

I can knit if someone can supply wool.

Yiayoula · 07/05/2017 14:55

Aaaargh ! Squares done, and was packing up leftover wool to return to K and P when noticed the band for the Drops Merino I was sent is colour 24 and not 01...according to the Drops website , colour 24 is pale yellow ( sort of a rich Cornish ice cream shade).
Shall I send the squares ? - did two plain ones, and used it in a stripey one with navy......

bookbook · 07/05/2017 15:20

Yia - the yellow was added to the colour palette later in the thread, as Juan had bought yellow roses for her DH - so it will be fine :)
jolovescakeandwine - pm K&P , and they will sort you out

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 07/05/2017 15:59

Here's my second one finished, mug of tea and a slice of lemon drizzle.

Yiayoula · 07/05/2017 16:15

Phew, thanks bookbook, had missed that !

This is shaping up to be an awesome blanket : that squirrel will be eyeing up the lemon drizzle cake......

bookbook · 07/05/2017 16:50

Raptor - that is great!
I am just about to start on a mug of tea square , but you managed the cake as well ! :)

bookbook · 07/05/2017 16:51

I forgot to say Vitty - that squirrel worked really well !

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 07/05/2017 16:51

Well you know the saying book there's always room for cake Wink

WitchDancer · 07/05/2017 17:50

Please tell me there's not going to be a square themed on the beaker incident! 😂

They are fabulous, you are all very talented.

clairethewitch70 · 07/05/2017 19:48

Vitty that squirrel is nothing like mine looked, mine was more like roadkill Grin

I think I will do another M square in blue, as it came out so well, that's my project for tonight, watching The Durrells and Grantchester.

bookbook · 07/05/2017 19:53

Evening!
Witch - naughty.... !
well, I have done my cup of tea. Virtuous , as no cake - but you are right Raptor , there should be cake !
