We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Colourwise…
Red, one of these please, Drops Merino Extra Fine 11 Red, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please.
Greens from forest to brighter.
Blues, but not turquoise please
Cream, one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream, or Drops Merino 01 off white

Accents and embellishments then in
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM7 Taupe
Oranges - one of these please, Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK - Pumpkin (373) orDebbie Bliss Rialto DK - Tangerine (56) or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Burnt Orange (43)

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

MadisonAvenue · 26/04/2017 21:19

I'd love to help, can I have some yarn sent to me though please?

Lots of love to Juan Flowers

PotOfYoghurt · 26/04/2017 21:33

I'm only just learning how to crochet so I can help with future Woolly Hugs, but as I'm still a bit rubbish I can be a donor for now!

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 26/04/2017 22:01

Count me in. Happy to do squares or donate whatever is needed.

WitchDancer · 26/04/2017 22:03

Can I have a donation of wool please? I've just topped up my Candy colours so am feeling rather skint at the moment 😔

I'm not very artistic but can hook some plainer squares to go in between the master pieces 😁

DramaAlpaca · 26/04/2017 22:10

Juan is one of my favourite people on MN and I'd love to support this. Sadly I can't knit or crochet for toffee, so I'll happily donate some funds.

JulesJules · 26/04/2017 22:14

Have been following Juan's thread.
Will knit xx

BigApple11 · 26/04/2017 22:41

I'm in. Have pmd, please can I have yarn? Lots of love to Juan. I don't know you but am sending you love. Flowers

CraftyGirly90 · 26/04/2017 22:49

Count me in. Could I possibly get some of the right wool in the right colours sent through please? Love, hugs and prayers to Juan and family xx xx

flutterworc · 26/04/2017 23:00

I can help if that helps? I don't know Juan personally, but my Mum does!

NormansNipple · 26/04/2017 23:01

I'm in. Love to Juan and her family xx Flowers

NormansNipple · 26/04/2017 23:09

K&P can we add beads? I'm thinking eyes if we do a cat or squirrel...

Wolfiefan · 26/04/2017 23:16

Shall order wool in the morning. Don't think I have those colours. I'm afraid mine will be the usual textured knit but no amazing pattern like some can do. They shall be snuggle and knitted with love however.
DS had kidney problems and I feel lucky not to have lost him. Thinking of Juan and the family tonight. Xx

CraftyGirly90 · 26/04/2017 23:20

Mine will be basic and granny squares hope that'll be ok. I spend a lot of time with someone with kidney problems so feel foe Juan xx

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 26/04/2017 23:28

Thank you K&P. I was really hoping we'd do one for Juan.

For anyone that doesn't know her, Juan really is lovely and although her DH had an illness he was actually well & feeling good, so it was a shock to them all. He really does sound incredibly lovely & he has left a huge big space where he should be. I'm glad we can send a big Woolly Hug.

diamantegal · 26/04/2017 23:30

I can help if there's a bit of wool going spare? Will PM now. Have read Juan's thread and would be lovely to do my bit on behalf of The Mumsnet. Flowers

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 26/04/2017 23:31

Wolfie. I'm sorry to hear about your DS, his old is he?

CraftyGirl. It can't be said often enough, but plain squares are essential. If they were all 'fancy' it would be WAY too much. I saw your squares on FB, they look fabulous!

HemanOrSheRa · 26/04/2017 23:36

Wolfie Flowers. I hope you and your DS are OK lovely.

Wolfiefan · 26/04/2017 23:50

Bless you. Sorry. Didn't mean to hijack. He's been well for a long time now but there was a year when no one could tell me what the outcome would be. Sad He's a teen now and doing well. Hopefully that will continue.
Thanks for your kindness.

Me! Have messaged you!

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 27/04/2017 00:14

Wolfie It's good to hear he's well now. Long may it last! Xx

I have asked K&P but thought I'd ask here too...does anyone know which of the greens is the nearest to the Leicester colours? Given I know the Stylecraft colours very well & it's rare any of them look the 'right' colour on my screen, I'm a bit loathe to order wool to match a colour online & no one stocks any of these locally. I don't mind which brand it is, except not Patons.

TheWoollybacksWife · 27/04/2017 00:30

Chipping DS has a Tigers top and I've got Drops forest. I'll try to have a look how well they match tomorrow. I think the forest might be a bit dark but I'll fight my way through the debris of footy cards and giant trainers to check.

KnottyAndPistey · 27/04/2017 07:50
