We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….

DoubleR · 04/05/2017 23:49

I've done my first square, it's the Leicester Tigers stripes in a Zig Zag Puff stitch, so hopefully different to other LT stripe squares
Love your red cable book, very clever. Smile

We already have lovely donors to thank. Either your our funds have arrived safely with us and we are sending wool out on your behalf, or your wool has arrived safely with your crafter, either way its fantastic of you, thank you. xxx.

Honestly your donations mean so much, we always want to be inclusive, for everyone to join in if they would like to, and some folk just wouldn't be able to afford to. Your kind donations make it possible, we really are so grateful. Thank you. Thanks

Good Luck Vitty At least you have shortbread Grin

I've told myself I need to mow the lawn and clean the house before I do any crochet today, which is why I'm sat on Mumsnet Wink

bookbook · 05/05/2017 11:24

Good Luck Vitty - the brain work on resizing is hard, hard, hard. - I use a squared paper too....
I have been sat waiting for DH as we are due to go out, so I have been knitting . Getting on with square 3 :)

Spindelina · 05/05/2017 11:45

You look well-prepared, Vitty - good luck!

SasBel · 05/05/2017 12:17

First square done! Actually managed to finish it in the garden whilst supervising the 3yo. Hopefully some of the sunshine has imbued the square tooSmile

That's gorgeous, Raptor! Is it all made separately (square, leaves, flowers) and then assembled?

VittysCardigan · 05/05/2017 17:55

That is stunning Raptor!

Well, I think I've succeeded, I've done a trial square. Just need my yarn donation to arrive.

Have moved on from tea to beer now though.

bookbook · 05/05/2017 17:57

Just beautiful Raptor
I am still plugging away at mine., and have been out today , so hope to get it finished tonight.

DoubleR · 05/05/2017 18:21

Wow Raptor that's fabulous!
How did you do the roses?
I'm currently attempting a square to reference The Catch, this could go very wrong Confused

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 05/05/2017 18:57

It is all separate Spindelina and then sewn on (although I was very clever and left long tails and used them to sew it on)

RR the roses are really simple, it's just a foundation chain of 40 and then 2 rows of DC, then chain 3 and slip stitch in to every 3rd dc so you have loops. then 1 dc, 5 treble, 1 dc in each loop. There's also a slipstitch along the top (back loops) in a different colour (they're a combo of cream/yellow) which I'm not sure comes out in the photo.

You then just roll them up and they become roses, leave a long tail and use that to secure it by sewing it back and forth all the way thru the centre.

I based it loosely on this video (mine aren't as long so there aren't as many petals) although it's in Portuguese so there was a significant amount of winging it involved Wink

I'm intrigued about a Chase square Smile can't wait to see what you come up with.

bookbook · 05/05/2017 21:07

I have no idea what The Chase programme is, so it will be wonderful DoubleR
Well, it took longer to attach this flower than all the knitting!
Square number three, love and thoughts to Juan

clairethewitch70 · 05/05/2017 22:46

Thats the one I have been trying to knit. One of the pattern rows seems to be wrong. I have tried to rewrite it, but it still seems wrong.
