We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Colourwise…
Red, one of these please, Drops Merino Extra Fine 11 Red, or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby’ please.
Greens from forest to brighter.
Blues, but not turquoise please
Cream, one of the following - Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru, Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream, or Drops Merino 01 off white

Accents and embellishments then in
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM7 Taupe
Oranges - one of these please, Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK - Pumpkin (373) orDebbie Bliss Rialto DK - Tangerine (56) or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Burnt Orange (43)

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.

This is what I've done with the yellow wool that bookbook so generously sent me. Pleased with the first; a bit less convinced by the second. Honest opinions, please?

bookbook · 07/05/2017 21:13

They are both great Spin truly! you are so clever :)

Spindelina · 07/05/2017 21:15

So you can tell what it's supposed to be? DD (who is, admittedly, 4) couldn't.

bookbook · 07/05/2017 21:15

Its lemon drizzle ! - and a while cake. not a piece !

bookbook · 07/05/2017 21:16

whole not while ......

Spindelina · 07/05/2017 21:18

Spin they are amazing, especially the cake.

diamantegal · 07/05/2017 21:25

I've used all my donor wool and this is what it made. Nowhere near as impressive as all you clever people who can personalise, but I've done my best!

Where are we sending them - Teddington?

bookbook · 07/05/2017 21:32

diamante - they are lovely! - its usually Teddington . The squares I have done will go with some Candys, and Kinships, plus a Little Hug , along with my DD's too.

Spindelina · 07/05/2017 21:33

diamante they look great. Very classy.

WitchDancer · 07/05/2017 21:37

I could tell straight away Spin, lemon drizzle cake 🍰

diamantegal · 07/05/2017 22:09

Spin not sure anyone's ever called me classy Grin Loving the cake - I could bake one but no idea how to do it in wool!

book thanks for that - I've got some Candy's Hugs to send too so will parcel them all up and send at some point this week. Helpfully, the post office near work has closed indefinitely so I'll need to "work" from home one day and pop out to the local one then.

Thanks for the support everyone. This is the first time I've contributed to a specific blanket - funny how much more I've worried about the squares because I know exactly where they're going.

bookbook · 07/05/2017 22:13

diamante never worry! don't forget to parcel them so K&P know which squares are for which blankets ( though the l wool is different to Candys)

VittysCardigan · 07/05/2017 22:19

I feel exactly the same Diamante

MadisonAvenue · 08/05/2017 16:37

Amazing work ladies, so clever and now I'd love a slice of lemon drizzle
These are the ones I've done for Juan. I should have just enough wool for one more I think.

I've only done one so far. Pretty plain but snuggle and cuddly. Need to crack on!

KnottyAndPistey · 08/05/2017 16:55

Could I do with lemon drizzle cake right now!!

These squares are just beautiful. I get really excited when I spot the crafter to whom I sent wool, but not yet on Juan's blanket!

I remain, as ever, in awe of your craftiness Flowers.

MadisonAvenue · 08/05/2017 18:49

I've had to make do with my son's caterpillar birthday cake, would've preferred lemon drizzle though!

BigApple11 · 08/05/2017 20:32

@HemanOrSheRa I have made a start!! Roses one is not assembled yet.

Oh my goodness BigApple they are stunning Smile. Just beautiful. (I may have just burst out crying Blush)

WitchDancer · 08/05/2017 22:14

Gorgeous!

I'm being forced to read some of the massive pile of magazines I've been given, due to the absence of wool. You watch it arrive tomorrow, when I've got a full on day!

DoubleR · 08/05/2017 22:39

Wow, I'm in awe as usual at the amazing squares, very clever cups and lemon drizzles and beautiful flowers Smile

So I've finished my square of The Catch (hoping I've got the right end of the stick) here it is alongside the actual logo ...

The letters are straighter than they look in the picture.
