We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)
Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Colourwise…

Thank you. It's not a true reflection of the colour in the picture 😎

bookbook · 03/05/2017 22:15

Evening.
Witch - that is lovely .

my wool arrived today, so I have attempted my first square
I'm not totally sure that looks quite like a rugby ball ....
With much love to Juan.

It's definitely the right shape Book, it's lovely and I am very impressed with your skills!

IlsaLund · 03/05/2017 22:36

That's lovely Book, definitely a rugby ball and pitch

bookbook · 03/05/2017 22:45

that was the general idea , but I worried a little ....

VittysCardigan · 03/05/2017 23:00

That's lovely Book

DoubleR · 04/05/2017 00:11

Very clever book, that's fantastic!
I know what you mean about the wool Witch, lovely and soft but hard to work with, you seem to be doing well with it though, lovely square Smile

hugoagogo · 04/05/2017 07:55

The wool in my amazon basket has quadrupled in price! I will have to try our one remaining wool shop.
Everyone has made some beautiful squares, I am a bit worried my simple granny squares won't be up to scratch.

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 09:49

They need plain squares to offset the others Hugo, so please don't ever be afraid that your squares aren't good enough. They're all knitted/hooked with love

Iwantacampervan · 04/05/2017 16:03

My Wool Warehouse order arrived today - some lovely Drops Merino and a couple of pattern books to keep me occupied.
Wool Warehouse have the sale on Drops wool until the end of the month - may have to order some more!

Name12345 · 04/05/2017 16:36

I'm shite at this kind of thing. Is there's anything else I can do to help.

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 16:52

You could be a wool donor Name? Just drop Knotty a message and she'll point you in the right direction

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 16:58

Number 2 done. I'm not sure what to do with the rest of the wool - there's only 10g left, which isn't enough to do another one (I would like to!). Suggestions please?

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 16:59

Doh! Picture helps.....it's not wonky, it's just not staying flat!

I started knitting a squirrel square, charted myself and from an online square which I resized. After frogging 4 times I am giving up and moving onto a different pattern. I tried Sad

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 19:14

Fair play to you trying 4 times Claire, you've more patience than me!

clairethewitch70 · 04/05/2017 19:15

Going back to patterns I know I think.

Spindelina · 04/05/2017 19:16

bookbook I got home to find yellow wool on the table! Thanks so much. Starting now...

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 04/05/2017 20:32

I'm currently doing a striped mug (it may require significant imagination) and asked DH if he recognised it (currently a small striped square), he instantly said Leicester Tigers so I must be on the right track Grin

bookbook · 04/05/2017 20:36

Evening!
0h good Spin -hope there is enough :)

I have done square number 2
This is a very small homage to the red cable cardigan . With much love x

Spindelina · 04/05/2017 20:42

I've done a yellow rose with plenty left over, book. Thanks again! I have the green and cream to do the leaves and square it up.

BunnyBunnyMooseMoose · 04/05/2017 20:50

@WitchDancer
I can send you some more wool if you'd like to do more squares? Juan's story really hit me and I'd like to help but I'm useless at knitting or crocheting Blush
Obvs only if Knotty&Pistey are ok with it, I don't want to cause chaos Grin

IlsaLund · 04/05/2017 20:59

Oh Book, the red square is stunning!

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 21:09

Yes please Bunny! I picked a pattern that was as much hole as it was crotchet and I'm short of about an inch plus the last round 😤. Bring on more wool! I'll message you, thank you.

WitchDancer · 04/05/2017 21:16

Bunny, I hope that's landed in your in box! It's not easy on a mobile to message.....I could well have ended up messaging some random, who is currently wondering what this strange woman is doing talking about wool 😱
