We were so very sorry to hear JuanPotatoTwo’s desperately sad news that her DH had passed away last month, he had renal failure. We are so very sorry for their loss and our thoughts are with her, their children and their family. We hope that this blanket will bring some comfort at such a devastating time, we were so glad they accepted our offer. Juan’s original thread is here… second here.. we see lots of you lovely folk are supporting her there, bless you.

We shall need crocheters, knitters and donors. If you would like to donate wool or funds, we shall need both and we can match you up. If you would like to join in but need donated wool, we can help there too.We have part balls if any hookers need yarn, please say. Please PM us with your offers of help THANK YOU SO MUCH.

We take our ideas from a beautiful piece written by his daughter

  • He was a keen rugby player, clearly enjoying much success before his illness started, playing for amongst others Leicester Tigers and England schools, so club and country, lots of rugby ideas there. Leicester colours are green, red and white, will attempt a link.
  • They met at a pub called The Navy for anyone who can do writing.
  • He had a red cable knit cardi he loved and wore endlessly, we do have an idea for these.
  • He loved gardening and roses
  • Cups of tea and lemon drizzle, and watching The Chase
  • They have a cat
  • And he once made Juan a Squirrel costume!

The Yarn we are Using….
Artesano Superwash Merino DK
Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time)

Madison did you find yourself hooking quicker so you didn't run out? 😂 Thank goodness it was just enough

The troublesome square is a bit flatter. I think once it's in a blanket it will be under control.

I now have another one that's wriggly! 😱. It's going to get the book treatment too

BunnyBunnyMooseMoose · 11/05/2017 19:29

@WitchDancer It's gorgeous, you are amazing!

MrsHathaway · 11/05/2017 19:31

Lovely.

bookbook · 11/05/2017 20:17

Oh Witch - it is a bit of a bumpy one, isn't it! I have just done that for a kinship, and I have been tugging and pulling too. Yours is a lovely colour combo
Spiral - yep, forest - he's cute!

SpiralArchitect · 11/05/2017 20:23

Well, I think that's a unanimous forest then... Grin

I think the burnt orange does "pop" more on the darker green. Just wondering when I will be facing the wrath of K&P over the brown I used for his eyes and nose though!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 11/05/2017 20:53

Just realised I called you Spin not Spiral whoops sorry Blush Grin must make more use of my reading glasses.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 11/05/2017 20:58

SPIN. It's BRILLIANT. I can't believe you did the Lemon Drizzle from a photo. I was WELL impressed with the square, then saw the photo and was astounded at how well you'd replicated it! 🍰🥇

Amazing squares everyone 😊

Mine are still, errrm, quite round. Sort of ball shaped...

I also wanted to say, that if any lurkers are intimidated by the amazing squares...please don't be! PLAIN SQUARES ARE NEEDED else it's too much. One plain square made with love is PERFECT 😊

WitchDancer · 11/05/2017 21:36

I'm glad you like it BunnyBunny, team work! 😁

I'm very frustrated I can't post the two I've done tonight - I've maxed out my photo allowance on Chernobyl blankets 😔

WitchDancer · 12/05/2017 07:46

Good morning!

I'm hoping the pictures will post now....

Beautiful Witch - are they all out of the Jan Eaton book?

WitchDancer · 12/05/2017 09:16

The two are Book, the one with granny in the middle is loosely based on one in there but mostly my own creation.

BigApple11 · 12/05/2017 19:12

@HemanOrSheRa I'm done!! Will get them in the post after the weekend. (Dd party and sleepover tomorrow Blushfive 8year olds eeeeeek) xxx

WitchDancer · 12/05/2017 19:41

They are stunning Big! I particularly like the middle left one, beautiful 😁

HemanOrSheRa · 12/05/2017 19:51

Big they are just so beautiful. I cannot thank you enough for taking the time to create something so gorgeous and with much love from both of us Smile.

Good luck with the sleepover. May The Force Be With You Grin.

SpiralArchitect · 12/05/2017 20:14

I am sulking. Nobody chez Spiral thinks that the squirrel is a squirrel.

DS thought it was a fox.
DD and DH both said it was a cat.

I need Wine ... and maybe some Cake too.

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2017 20:16

WHAT???? IT IS SOOOOO OBVIOUSLY A SQUIRREL!!!!
Send them to Specsavers first thing.
For now. WineCakeGinFlowersStar
You are a star. Obviously. Hence the last one!!

BigApple11 · 12/05/2017 20:25

Thankyou witch.

And thank YOU heman. The yarn you bought was sooo nice to work with. I'm glad you like them. Love all round.

This is what woolly hugs is all about xx

SpiralArchitect · 12/05/2017 20:30

Thank you Wolfie Grin

I knew I could rely on Woolly Huggers to make me feel better!

Big Those squares are fabulous - I love the roses Star

Spindelina · 12/05/2017 20:44

Spiral, that's how I feel about my lemon drizzle. Your squirrel is clearly a squirrel; I am choosing to believe you lot (rather than DH and DD) that mine is clearly Cake.

I'm doing a cardigan at the moment. Who knows what they'll think of that!

Big as everyone else says, they are stunning.

WitchDancer · 12/05/2017 21:06

I'm sure they're just winding you up Spiral. There is no other explanation 😱

Now, what's going on with these squares - the buggers won't lie flat 😔 Is it something I'm doing wrong? I'm just hoping they'll behave themselves once they're in a blanket

bookbook · 12/05/2017 21:08

Deffo a squirrel Spiral

I use a big Oxford English Dictionary Witch Grin that seems to sort 'em . I think they will pull flat with others in truth !

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2017 21:09

Witch my squares are textured and seem really heavy. They aren't anywhere near as pretty as all these squares but they will act as good ballast! Grin

WitchDancer · 12/05/2017 21:20

I hope so Book, as I really want them to be perfect. Hopefully yours will get mine under control then Wolfie!

Wolfiefan · 12/05/2017 21:21

I have very few talents in knitting but forcing things to be flat. OR ELSE! Is one of them! Envy

HappyAxolotyl · 13/05/2017 08:33

Can someone give me the address of where to send Juan's squares? I haven't heard back from K&P.
