Our own Zombie, how lucky we were to know her, the more we speak to folk the more we learn of her, she gave of herself so freely, always there with a wise word, offering love and support, her own brand of humour, so positive when things were bleak, we all have so many different, wonderful memories. Our lives were enriched by knowing this remarkable woman..

We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly.

Time to do something for Zombie now, for her son and his wife, and we are so glad that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug blanket. Truly love in every stitch.

So we need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time) Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger and Laughing Hens.

The Colours Zombielad and Zombielass would like
Blues - but please avoid the vibrant ones e.g. turquoise
Purples - rich and warm ones please, to give you an idea - Katia Merino 100% (1) Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (61 and 40) Patons Merino Extrafine DK - Violet (00147)
Magenta - Either Katia Merino 100% 42, or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Cyclamen (74)
And then just for embellishments

  • Greens
  • Cream - one of these but one of these please.. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - one of these Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby,’ Drops Merino Extra Fine DK number 11, red.

Ideas for squares.
We have been thinking and we’d love to see Zombies (obvs!) her cats, and her beautiful red dress, but we all knew Zombie in a different way, so thinking in terms of embellishments or designs, these may very well be a personal thing. If you need help creating these it may be that our crafters could take them on for you, if you are a crafter who might be able to do this, please let us know. We do have the initials if anyone would like to take these on?

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Have a look at our crafting guide and at photos of previously made blankets if this is your first project with us.

We also have a Facebook page Woolly Hugs and are on Twitter @Woolly_Hugs

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support.

The cloud was a joint effort between bookbook and me - she did the tricky bit!

RueDeDay · 02/04/2017 22:38

How strict are the rules about red and cream being for embellishments only?

I made a USA flag but it's obviously rather red/cream. If it's too much I'll make something else :)

(It has the correct number of "stars", just not in the correct arrangement. Sorry to any American Woolly Huggers!)

Lovely Spiral. I saw the pattern for the bottomright square somwhere, and started it but it wasa bit beyond me Grin, it's really pretty.

Malcolm that's a lovely stitch! Love that square.

MalcolmTuckersOmniShambles · 07/04/2017 19:43

Finished all of mine and posted them off today. The poppy is meant to express strength of character, generosity and sincerity.

I'm in awe if you all and really enjoy looking at all the squares. I used to be able to knit but could never cast on. Probably too old to learn again now.

bookbook · 07/04/2017 23:35

Beautiful squares Malcolm - love the stitches in the Mum in Treble

Jux · 08/04/2017 01:13

Going, never too late Wink

Give it a go, go on, you know you want to Grin

Goingtobeawesome · 08/04/2017 07:30

Shucks. Busted. Grin.

bookbook · 08/04/2017 07:48

you could always try crotchet Going - none of that tricky casting on! There are lots of really good video tutorials .
And no excuse being too old - I have knitted for years, but only done crotchet for the last couple of months.
I ditto Jux - you know you want to !

Jux · 08/04/2017 12:03

One little ball of wool.
One 4mm hook.
One Bella Coco tutorial.

Going. It's all you need.......

RueDeDay · 08/04/2017 17:35

Laughing at Jux, you're such an enabler!!
