Our own Zombie, how lucky we were to know her, the more we speak to folk the more we learn of her, she gave of herself so freely, always there with a wise word, offering love and support, her own brand of humour, so positive when things were bleak, we all have so many different, wonderful memories. Our lives were enriched by knowing this remarkable woman..

We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly.

Time to do something for Zombie now, for her son and his wife, and we are so glad that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug blanket. Truly love in every stitch.

So we need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

Our Yarns

  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time) Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger and Laughing Hens.

The Colours Zombielad and Zombielass would like
Blues - but please avoid the vibrant ones e.g. turquoise
Purples - rich and warm ones please, to give you an idea - Katia Merino 100% (1) Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (61 and 40) Patons Merino Extrafine DK - Violet (00147)
Magenta - Either Katia Merino 100% 42, or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Cyclamen (74)
And then just for embellishments

  • Greens
  • Cream - one of these but one of these please.. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - one of these Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby,’ Drops Merino Extra Fine DK number 11, red.

Ideas for squares.
We have been thinking and we’d love to see Zombies (obvs!) her cats, and her beautiful red dress, but we all knew Zombie in a different way, so thinking in terms of embellishments or designs, these may very well be a personal thing. If you need help creating these it may be that our crafters could take them on for you, if you are a crafter who might be able to do this, please let us know. We do have the initials if anyone would like to take these on?

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Have a look at our crafting guide and at photos of previously made blankets if this is your first project with us.

We also have a Facebook page Woolly Hugs and are on Twitter @Woolly_Hugs

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Wine Wine Wine Raising a glass or three to such a glorious inspirational woman and remembering Zombie with so much love, thinking of Zombielad and Zombielass. xxxx

bookbook. HOW DID YOU DO THAT?

Your square is 'in' your post. It's not a photo?

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 11/03/2017 18:04

bookbook sod the honey & lemon, you need 🥃 Lovely squares 😊

Five. I think you just have too much going on right now. Crochet following the tutorials really isn't difficult, you just need the time & headspace. Give it another go when you have a bit of both. Save this for when you are ready Easy Granny

Jux. I don't bother with knitting/crochet books anymore when there's so much online. I love all the webpages, blogs & tutorials.

Back!
I have waved DH off to his regular boys night out, I have made myself food that isn't a proper evening meal and about to embark on a lovely evening doing squares.
Chipping - how much wool Shock . I try to keep my wool buying under control....
erm - but that is a photo , it was just taken against my blindingly white linen tablecloth Grin . I wish I were techy - I was sent a lovely little gif on fb, that I would love to pop on here, but can I work out how the heck to do that? No.....
Now, as you can tell, I love a book or two ( well, I did sell them for 30 years) and I so nearly bought a Vogue crotchet one today, but it looked a bit advanced for me !

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 11/03/2017 19:59

bookbook isn't it lovely when you have The Perfect Evening planned. It's probably A Tad Sad that's it's a Saturday night at home knitting 😂 But I'm right there with you 😊😊. Hope you have some decent 🍫

Oh Hmm maybe my blindingly white duvet cover needs to be ironed better!? Shame, I was hoping it was some very cool background remover app.

Posting gifs, you just copy and paste the URL.

VOGUE Crochet 😳 Sounds a bit too upmarket for me 😂

How much wool...errm. I didn't count how many balls, but I'd guess around 30 as some were £ and some were £££. Yes, I know. Plenty to keep me going for Quite Some Time. Eek. I wish they were here already.

I've got the Vintage set as well as most of the others for the Kinship Hugs, hanging out to do some of those and some super soft Little Hugs, but I'm going to stick to C2017 (and Zlad/lass) squares for now to try to relieve the 'OMG what have we done' stresses at WHHQ - not that the few I manage to do will make that much difference!

bookbook · 11/03/2017 20:19

I don't know. Maybe best we wait until some fully competent person comes along 😂

Jux · 11/03/2017 21:07

bookbook, that's cute. I like the cavemen too. Get that Vogue book! It won't always be way too advanced for you.

bookbook · 11/03/2017 21:16

Just having a break - on the down side of a striped c2c - chocolate du jour is Lindt Caramel Grin
Hah! Jux will have to hie off back to town and the Oxfam bookshop :)
yes, the little gnome is cute isn't it - my friend in Oz sent it me on my fb feed - I just wish I knew how to make it work on a MN post - I see them on others.. I spent about an hour the other day trying as well - totally useless. !

flutterworc · 12/03/2017 00:46

CraftyGirly90 · 13/03/2017 23:00

I'd love to help with this project but have no access or funds to get the wool for it 😩 would just basic and granny squares be ok for it? And also what is the posting date? X

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 14/03/2017 09:43

Spiral that is lovely!

RueDeDay · 14/03/2017 21:12

My wool has arrived! Thank you, if you sent wool to an unpronounceable Welsh town beginning with D. Lovely wool, lovely colours. I suspect it may have been sent some time ago, my postie found somewhere very safe to put it Hmm First square down, tried a spiral pattern. Think I'll popcorn stitch a heart next.
