Our own Zombie, how lucky we were to know her, the more we speak to folk the more we learn of her, she gave of herself so freely, always there with a wise word, offering love and support, her own brand of humour, so positive when things were bleak, we all have so many different, wonderful memories. Our lives were enriched by knowing this remarkable woman..

We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly.

Time to do something for Zombie now, for her son and his wife, and we are so glad that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug blanket. Truly love in every stitch.

So we need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

Our Yarns

  • Drops Merino Extra Fine DK
  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time) Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
 Artesano Superwash Merino DK
  • Patons Merino Extrafine DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger and Laughing Hens.

The Colours Zombielad and Zombielass would like
Blues - but please avoid the vibrant ones e.g. turquoise
Purples - rich and warm ones please, to give you an idea - Katia Merino 100% (1) Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (61 and 40) Patons Merino Extrafine DK - Violet (00147)
Magenta - Either Katia Merino 100% 42, or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Cyclamen (74)
And then just for embellishments

  • Greens
  • Cream - one of these but one of these please.. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - one of these Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby,’ Drops Merino Extra Fine DK number 11, red.

Ideas for squares.
We have been thinking and we’d love to see Zombies (obvs!) her cats, and her beautiful red dress, but we all knew Zombie in a different way, so thinking in terms of embellishments or designs, these may very well be a personal thing. If you need help creating these it may be that our crafters could take them on for you, if you are a crafter who might be able to do this, please let us know. We do have the initials if anyone would like to take these on?

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Have a look at our crafting guide and at photos of previously made blankets if this is your first project with us.

We also have a Facebook page Woolly Hugs and are on Twitter @Woolly_Hugs

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Wine Wine Wine Raising a glass or three to such a glorious inspirational woman and remembering Zombie with so much love, thinking of Zombielad and Zombielass. xxxx

American Beauty looks a hell of a lot more difficult than it actually is!

Each set of petals is made over two rounds: you make chain loops which sit behind each petal, then on the next round you work a petal into each chain space. No witchcraft involved Grin

Madison Is your blue on purple one Big Round from the JE book?

Jux · 21/03/2017 11:27

I see that I have to get the Jan Eaton book! I have been toying with the idea since she was first mentioned on these threads. Sadly dd's phone died yesterday and I am goi tohave tobuy a new one so the book will have to wait until next month. I'll have a look in our little local library, first.

MadisonAvenue · 21/03/2017 12:06

Spiral It is! Well spotted Grin
I shall have to psyche myself up and try American Beauty. Maybe best to get some training in on some smaller flowers first though.

Jux Maybe drop a hint for Mother's Day?

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 21/03/2017 12:49

Lovely squares everybody! Smile

The Jan Eaton book is well worth it, I can't remember where I bought it online but if you do the google shopping thing (tech speak Wink )it's available for under £9.

I fell down the applique rabbit hole this weekend (there was swearing Grin ) and completed this square, bit wonky in places but it's well sewn on.

Love that Raptor!

SpiralArchitect · 21/03/2017 15:18

Raptor Fab ZombieCat there!

Madison I only really knew that because I made one as part of my Chernobyl offering Grin

flutterworc · 24/03/2017 20:29

I've gone single colours and hopefully done nice textures - hope that's okay!

ooh , you've finished ! :)

Jux · 24/03/2017 23:13

Madison chance would be a fine thing Grin

AdoraBell · 24/03/2017 23:22

I would like to donate some yarn, will look in my local shop next week.

Spindelina · 25/03/2017 13:14

Is the address for this the same as for Candy's Hugs, or Chernobyl, or neither of the above?

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 25/03/2017 13:19

flutterwoc. They'll be perfect 💐 The blankets really really really do need plain squares & yours are lovely textures too.

Rap. I love the cat 😊

Madison. I like that pattern! Too many patterns, too little time 😖

AdoraBell. If you want to buy it & send it on yourself that's lovely, but if it's easier you can order online & send it to the recipient directly or send funds to K&P who will then send out the wool/yarn. Not many local woolshops stock these yarns, unfortunately.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 25/03/2017 13:29

Spindelina If it was me I'd send them to the Candy's Hugs address as that's where the 'mixed' bundles are (mainly) going. All roads lead to WoollyHugs (much nicer than Rome) though, so don't worry. You could PM if you want to ask, but I imagine they're flat out with the auction stuff this weekend. I don't know how they do it, they're total Super Stars! 🌟

Spindelina · 25/03/2017 15:07

They really are aren't they!

Hi there, KnottyAndPistey. We are more than happy to move this thread over to Woolly Hugs to ensure its safe keeping. It will be heading over there shortly. Flowers

WhatWouldLeslieKnopeDo · 26/03/2017 18:28

Sorry, I thought I'd posted on here, but I can't see it Blush

I will do a couple of squares for this. In fact I'm already crocheting my first one under my Candy's Hug Smile

bookbook · 26/03/2017 21:11

I will be popping mine and DD's ( flutterworc ) in the post at the end of the week. After doing separate ones we decided it would be nice to collaborate, and try to represent 'every cloud has a silver lining" - the enduring legacy of Zombie via Candys Hugs
With much love in the stitches

book I've just been doing textured squares for this (I have no imagination nation or creativity - I'm just good at following instructions!) which I hope will work well in the blanket. But it's squares like yours that make it so special.

bookbook · 27/03/2017 10:51

thank you Spin - the others I have done are textured, and in one colour. I know they need those as well, to harmonise things.
btw - I am not in the least creative either - also good at following instructions :)

KnottyAndPistey · 29/03/2017 09:51

Love @CarolineMumsnet - no matter what the others may tell you, you are our favourite, thank you! Gin
