Our own Zombie, how lucky we were to know her, the more we speak to folk the more we learn of her, she gave of herself so freely, always there with a wise word, offering love and support, her own brand of humour, so positive when things were bleak, we all have so many different, wonderful memories. Our lives were enriched by knowing this remarkable woman..

We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly.

Time to do something for Zombie now, for her son and his wife, and we are so glad that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug blanket. Truly love in every stitch.

So we need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time) Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger and Laughing Hens.

The Colours Zombielad and Zombielass would like
Blues - but please avoid the vibrant ones e.g. turquoise
Purples - rich and warm ones please, to give you an idea - Katia Merino 100% (1) Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (61 and 40) Patons Merino Extrafine DK - Violet (00147)
Magenta - Either Katia Merino 100% 42, or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Cyclamen (74)
And then just for embellishments

  • Greens
  • Cream - one of these but one of these please.. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - one of these Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby,’ Drops Merino Extra Fine DK number 11, red.

Ideas for squares.
We have been thinking and we’d love to see Zombies (obvs!) her cats, and her beautiful red dress, but we all knew Zombie in a different way, so thinking in terms of embellishments or designs, these may very well be a personal thing. If you need help creating these it may be that our crafters could take them on for you, if you are a crafter who might be able to do this, please let us know. We do have the initials if anyone would like to take these on?

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Have a look at our crafting guide and at photos of previously made blankets if this is your first project with us.

We also have a Facebook page Woolly Hugs and are on Twitter @Woolly_Hugs

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Wine Wine Wine Raising a glass or three to such a glorious inspirational woman and remembering Zombie with so much love, thinking of Zombielad and Zombielass. xxxx

IAmNotAUserNumber · 08/03/2017 21:25

Thank you K+P for the gorgeous Drops merino that arrived today. I'm half way through a 12 inch Chernobyl and will then get started on this wool.

SasBel · 09/03/2017 12:04

Lovely blue wool just arrived, thank you. Will make a start this evening when the little monsters are in bedSmile

Mummylin · 09/03/2017 12:22

What beautiful wool to work with this is.

SasBel · 09/03/2017 12:39

Also just sent you 5 crochet hooks through your Gift List Hope they help!

bookbook · 09/03/2017 19:59

Well I couldn't resist getting on with one., once the wool had arrived . I am trying to get a couple done, and then passing on the wool to DD, who is also going to do one or two.
I went through a few ideas, but decided in the end to do a texture for the first one. So with much love in the stitches - here is a pattern called grapes x

That's lovely. My wool warehouse order arrived. (Well the postie tossed it over the back gate!) Finishing Chernobyl squares but starting one for Zlad and lass too.

Jux · 10/03/2017 10:46

Went into our v large Waterstones in town y'day expressly to get a crochet pattern boo but the only thing they had was a Mandalas one.

What's the book everyone's recommending? I'll go through Amazon this time.

bookbook · 10/03/2017 11:11

Wolfie - tossed over the gate ? wow, posties are a bit Hmm - mine are pretty good., If I am not in, they tuck it in the greenhouse around the back and pop a card through normally, or hide it behind a pot ( I have a few !)
Jux - Jan Eaton 200 squares. I have it on order at the library, and am drumming my fingers.... :)

Yiayoula · 10/03/2017 11:35

Absolute knockout, bookbook! The colour is beautiful too.
Just parcelled up my two Z-cat squares, and a bundle for Candy Hugs, and realised I hadn't photographed the cat ones : more by luck than judgement, they were OK for size and I was pleased with how they turned out.
Local library didn't have much in the way of knitting books, so will be resorting to Amazon also !

One down, one in preparation. It looks as though you've had a very strong response to this so I'm assuming you'll be overwhelmed and I shouldn't go mad?

Jux · 10/03/2017 13:59

The result of my recent shopping accident has arrived (I am embarrassed by how baaaaad I was)! It is gorgeous wool, great colours. I think I need some blue though. I have a couple of greens, tons of purples and reds and a couple of creams. The green sticks out like a sore thumb, but I think blue would bring it all together. What do you think, what sort of blue?

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 10/03/2017 15:24

My wool warehouse order arrived this morning (not tossed over the gate though! Wink )

Now I just have to have a proper think of what to do with it Smile

bookbook · 10/03/2017 16:44

Jux - Envy . I cant see any green in that pack , and the cream/green/red are for embellishments I think? , so it should be fine. A nice blue would be good though. I was donated drops merino - the one in the picture I posted is actually a bit more air force blue in truth, but I think a mid blue, not too pale ,would work well :)

Jux · 10/03/2017 17:29

bookbook, it's a crap pic isn't it? Grin The green is the middle one on the top row, it's quite dark. You're right, a mid-blue would be nice.

bookbook · 10/03/2017 21:15

It is green, I can see it now if I squint a bit Jux - :) - DH has kindly shared his head cold germs - eyes are watering a bit...
I have started off another square, but my eyes are not working properly, so will have to put it down for tonight.

FMD. Bankruptcy is on the horizon 😖 Well, that's if I don't bury myself under the patio first! 😡 😳🤔🤣

I'm a perfectionist & a procrastinator, with something I used to refer to 'as a bit OCD' thrown in.

[I no longer say that as I now know just how awful properly diagnosed OCD can be, but I'd like to know what to call what I do have!]

3 wools orders are now on their way. Yes, three. Woolwarehouse, Wisebadger & LovesKnitting. There was very nearly a 4th Hmm.

I 'needed' Drops wool because they had the nicest blues (IMHO) & only WW have it, I 'needed' a Sublime colour which only Wisebadger had in stock & I 'needed' a DB Rialto colour that only LK had in stock. But trying to work out what went with what over three orders & several brands of wool...arghhh. Lots of procrastination over whether I could do without one of them to reduce the number of orders yes/no/yes/no....arghhh.

Then, of course, it's silly to pay postage when you could have wool instead, so you need to make the order up...some of which was SC in (non) Zombie colours (I have all of those) for C2017 & Kinship Hugs.

Now I need to decide where the hell I'm going to put it all when it arrives 😖...very quickly onto needles & back out to K&P is, of course, the best option 😇

I also sorted out all of my completed & half completed bits today & now have a lovely list to 'tick' as I complete them. Ticking lists makes me happy 😊
