Our own Zombie, how lucky we were to know her, the more we speak to folk the more we learn of her, she gave of herself so freely, always there with a wise word, offering love and support, her own brand of humour, so positive when things were bleak, we all have so many different, wonderful memories. Our lives were enriched by knowing this remarkable woman..

We knew her time left with us was short, but the news of Zombie’s death on January 30th was still a sad shock, we send so much love to her family and her many, many friends who love and will miss her greatly.

Time to do something for Zombie now, for her son and his wife, and we are so glad that they have accepted our offer of a Woolly Hug blanket. Truly love in every stitch.

So we need crocheters, knitters and donors (of funds or wool) If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM us with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

Thank you so much Thanks

  • Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK
  • Debbie Bliss Rialto DK
  • Katia Merino 100% DK (new to us this time) Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK

Just from the brands listed please because we know they combine for wash and wear. If you still have any of our wools that have been discontinued - Rowan Cashsoft DK, Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK or James C. Brett Pure Merino DK in your stash, please do use them.

Our listed yarns are all easily available online - Try Wool Warehouse, Wise Badger and Laughing Hens.

The Colours Zombielad and Zombielass would like
Blues - but please avoid the vibrant ones e.g. turquoise
Purples - rich and warm ones please, to give you an idea - Katia Merino 100% (1) Debbie Bliss Rialto DK (61 and 40) Patons Merino Extrafine DK - Violet (00147)
Magenta - Either Katia Merino 100% 42, or Debbie Bliss Rialto DK - Cyclamen (74)
And then just for embellishments

  • Greens
  • Cream - one of these but one of these please.. Debbie Bliss Rialto DK 02 ecru or Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM4 cream
  • Red - one of these Jenny Watson Pure Merino DK WM6 ‘Ruby,’ Drops Merino Extra Fine DK number 11, red.

Ideas for squares.
We have been thinking and we’d love to see Zombies (obvs!) her cats, and her beautiful red dress, but we all knew Zombie in a different way, so thinking in terms of embellishments or designs, these may very well be a personal thing. If you need help creating these it may be that our crafters could take them on for you, if you are a crafter who might be able to do this, please let us know. We do have the initials if anyone would like to take these on?

Simple or complex, made by beginner or expert, we genuinely welcome them all. It really is the love and thought that counts.
Squares to be six inches, using 4mm needles or hook.

Have a look at our crafting guide and at photos of previously made blankets if this is your first project with us.

We also have a Facebook page Woolly Hugs and are on Twitter @Woolly_Hugs

When ready for posting, please PM for info. As always, we thank you so much for your support.

Wine Wine Wine Raising a glass or three to such a glorious inspirational woman and remembering Zombie with so much love, thinking of Zombielad and Zombielass. xxxx

RueDeDay · 04/03/2017 06:39

I would love to do some squares for this, and don't mind a bit if they are used for another Candys hug. Will pm you for some donor wool.

Spindelina · 04/03/2017 06:58

I'll make some squares. I have the technical skill and the time, but not the imagination. So if anyone is short on either but has any particular motifs they would like to see included, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

JulesJules · 04/03/2017 06:59

My pooter won't let me reply to your PM for some reason - but I'm in x

Iwantacampervan · 04/03/2017 08:06

Time to buy some new types/brands of wool 😊 Until now I've been working my way through my Debbie Bliss Cashmerino stash.

Unfortunately there's not a single woolshop for miles that stocks any of them, except DB Rialto, I do love the DB wool, but I'd like to try something new. I hate not being able to actually feel it first though - so annoying!

I think, that out of the other brands, I like the look of the Drops blues but I was wondering how it feels to use. There was another merino wool in the shop and it felt scratchy/rough/hard which surprised me.

Given the speed I knit, the difference in price doesn't matter much, I wasn't looking for a cheaper option, just some blues I liked that weren't DB.

bookbook · 04/03/2017 14:17

I got sent Drops wool for a previous hug Chipping - its a bit more of a silky but firm feel than the DB Rialto- not fluffy at all- nice to knit with. ( if you have used Stylecraft Pure luxury merino, its a bit like that) . Nowhere near as soft as DB cashmerino though - I love that wool and have made a lot of DGS stuff in it

IAmNotAUserNumber · 04/03/2017 15:26

Could I have some wool please? I can do a couple of textured knitted squares out of one ball, won't be colour changing, so one ball is plenty.
I live in a largish city the centre of which is now done to 2 wool retailers - an independent shop and John Lewis - neither of which stock the required wools, or indeed Stylecraft. I am loathe to pay postage online for the one ball, and really can't justify upping the order to get free postage - I am currently overflowing in SSDK! Happy to make a donation of SSDK in return.
