Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Evening!
DoubleR I agree with Witch. Bella Coco does a nice willow pattern, plus a tricolour square , easy to follow - the C2C is nice to do, isn't it :)
Well, I have managed 2 squares today - maybe due to the fact that the last, tricolour one was done in double trebles , not trebles!
So set of shrimp, pomegranate and plum.
Have to think of the next three for tomorrow . I ought to do greens, but I am not really keen on green by itself, so may have to be saffron, grass green and something else ....

I love that Madison- where is the pattern from?

DoubleR · 08/04/2017 10:50

Thanks Smile I've bookmarked a few Bella Coco tutorials to watch/attempt, she makes it look so easy though so I may be overreaching. I want them to be pretty squares though so I'm going to give it a good go.

Lovely combo book, looking at my Norman's ex pegs either Sherbert or Violet work tonaly with Grass green and Saffron, or how about Grass green, Kelly Green and Lavender?

bookbook · 08/04/2017 11:10

Madison - I came on here , and agree with Vitty - lovely pattern .Is that pomegranate and violet? :)
DoubleR - thank you ! Bella Coco does very good tutorials I think - she takes it nice and steady.-
I have had a bit of waiting time this morning, so got out my colours, and have done a first square.
Kelly green/saffron/boysenberry I decided at 8 this morning....thinking it may come out a bit like a pansy - it doesn't !

Double trust us, they're pretty easy to follow and with following tutorials you can pause and rewind them if you need to. In fact there are parts where she'll tell you to pause the video while you do what she's just shown you.

book you're spot on, Pomegranate and Violet. Great combination of colours on your square, I love the pattern.

Vitty it's good old Jan Eaton and the Gothic Square

IAm 'fess up, how many have you bought?

bookbook · 08/04/2017 13:02

Madison
this is the one here - I needed to go through to her video tutorial and check what was what though, being a novice and converting to UK terms .
I have had to send the Jan Eaton book back to the library , sadly.....

NerrSnerr · 08/04/2017 13:33

I haven't done any squares in the last few days as I have been a bit busy! Will get some simple stockinette stitch squares cast on once I'm discharged but in the meantime meet Baby Nerr!

nerr you made a baby! !! really beautiful congratulations

IAmNotAUserNumber · 08/04/2017 16:23

Nerr congratulations on your beautiful babyFlowers
Madison I bought none - really! I was actually very restrained and only bought a small amount of fabric for a couple of projects I already have in mind. I did not get sucked in by the lovely patchwork kits, or the tweed bag kits, although I did buy some earrings. The cheap wool stall was very busy so I didn't feel I had to support his business although had I done the maths I guess if I'd bought enough balls I'd have taken even on my entrance fee. However, I have enough wool to last the equivalent of several Chernobys (at my knitting rate) so glad I resisted Smile

Spindelina · 08/04/2017 18:16

Congratulations, Nerr!

MrsDilligaf · 08/04/2017 19:11

Congratulations Nerr Flowers Gorgeous baby 💜

NormansNipple · 08/04/2017 19:13

Hi everyone!

I'm putting one foot on this thread and keeping the other in the Chernobyl thread in case they need more squares. I've actually planned a couple of little hugs to do next, then I'm going to do some Candy squares. I just don't want to miss any gossip news.

I've had a look at the last couple of pages - lots of beautiful squares! I can also recommend bella coco tutorials, her c2c is really easy to follow.

Nerr congratulations on your gorgeous baby! Flowers

SpiralArchitect · 08/04/2017 19:14

Nerr Congratulations! What a cutie Flowers

Bearfrills · 08/04/2017 19:20

DoubleR · 08/04/2017 23:18

Congratulations Nerr gorgeous baby Flowers
I'm in the middle of getting rid of my baby stuff ( 2 is more than enough!) so I'm trying not to feel sentimental when the tiny baby clothes come out.

I've taken everyone's advice to stick with Bella Coco and just finished my first Candy square. I've gone for a shell stitch in blues, hopefully it will remind the eventual owner of the beach Smile

Please excuse the rubbish lighting

RR I really like that.

When we moved house six years ago we found so many baby clothes when clearing out the loft. I'd boxed them up as and when the oldest outgrew them (although some still had tags on) and stuck them up the loft for the next baby and then forgot about them. The baby they were saved for was 10 when I rediscovered them.
