Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

TheHatOfDoom · 19/03/2017 22:54

Thanks Witch, have been having a go with the tutorial and I think I've cracked the pattern. I need to start fresh though because as some point I seem to have twisted a extra loop of yarn on an edge.

HappyAxolotyl · 20/03/2017 06:54

Oh, that's so pretty, Bookbook!

Here is the last of my block stitch experiments. I've been a bit obsessed.

To anyone that wants to try it, there were 54 peskies to sort out that took longer than the crochet did!

Craftygirl

Off the top of my head ArtsHub54 on lark lane Deffo have one but there is more than that, I'll get back to you once I've had a think.

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 20/03/2017 14:07

Axolotyl can you not carry the yarn? I'll certainly be trying to! 54 Peskies...nooooo

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 20/03/2017 14:12

Axolotyl. It is FAB! They all look very different don't they. I really like them all.

TheHatOfDoom. My first bit of CTC was a right mess - I should have taken a photo 🤣 By watching a different video I figured out what was going wrong. It was turning itself around whilst I was busy doing the increasing square & I didn't realise. 🙄

stephiehelen · 20/03/2017 14:23

Received my new wool today, thank you, am just about to to get knitting Grin

TheHatOfDoom · 20/03/2017 17:16

Axolotyl and chippingin I watched the hopeful honey block stitch tutorial and because I was slightly confused also watched a BellaCoco block stitch tutorial - she does it slightly differently and also carries her main colour up the work (using a stitch marker) but not her secondary colour. Not sure if carrying the second colour would work, I think not.

Jux · 20/03/2017 18:01

book and Axolotl, those are fabulous, both of them. Well done. 54 peskies - that is true dedication!

MadisonAvenue · 20/03/2017 18:04

Book and Happy - gorgeous squares!

Can anyone direct me to the thread for the Woolly Hug for Z lad and lass. I've searched and nothing's coming up. I'm just wondering what the deadline is for that one.

bookbook · 20/03/2017 18:17

here you go Madison - last posting is April 8th
HERE

MrsHathaway · 20/03/2017 18:23

I can't find it either. It's vanished off my TIO and I can't find it on AS either Confused

bookbook · 20/03/2017 18:25

MrsH and Madison - it was in Chat, not Woolly Hugs , thats probably why - can you see my link?

Spindelina · 20/03/2017 18:53

It's the same last posting date as Chernobyl, right? Candy's hugs has been rather neglected here in favour of those two (though all my Chernobyl squares have been in vibrant riot colours, so I've sent them with the instructions that I'm happy for them to be used for either project).

(book, I can see your link.)

MrsHathaway · 20/03/2017 18:57

Yes I can see your link - I searched for threads by K&P since January including the words "zlad" and "zlass" but the real thing has them as "zombielad" and "zombielass" in full. Thank you!

MadisonAvenue · 20/03/2017 19:27

Thanks book Star
I'd been trying all combinations on search too MrsH

HappyAxolotyl · 21/03/2017 09:49

Chipping, I did do some carrying over. This is the reverse, you can see the carried over wool at the bottom of each little block.
There are 4 colours, and this is the first time I've done any carrying over.

I will definitely check out that tutorial, TheHat, to see if I could have done any more!

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 21/03/2017 12:58

Axolotyl there is some real dedication in that square! it makes my head hurt just thinking about the work that's gone into it Smile

I'm still working on my pile of peskies (or rather ignoring them and doing other things which in turn creates more peskies Wink )

I had another crack at the willow pattern yesterday (more successful than the first, but still not 'perfect') nice juicy colours though Grin

WitchDancer · 21/03/2017 15:58

I like that Raptor and can't tell where it's not perfect!

MadisonAvenue · 21/03/2017 16:58

Nothing wrong with that at all Raptor Smile

Jux · 21/03/2017 22:57

Raptor that's beautiful!! It looks lovely, I can't see anything wrong with it at all.
