Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Oh, go on then! Grin

I will make it a habit to leave out the peskies and see what else he comes up with...

Costacoffeeplease · 17/03/2017 12:56

My first lot of candy hugs squares have gone in the post today. Hope they don't take too long from sunny Portugal 😎

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/03/2017 13:10

Love it Spiral 🤣

Costa I'm sure K&P won't mind a slightly longer postage time when the sunshine pops out of the bag! 😊 It was lovely here (SE England) Wednesday, really like spring, with hints of summer. Yesterday & today, it's been grey & decidedly cooler.

CraftyGirly90 · 17/03/2017 17:43

Does anyone know if there are any crochet/knotting groups in Liverpool anywhere? Xx

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 17/03/2017 20:07

Sorry CraftyGirl I don't, I'm in the South East.

Have you looked at your local libraries? Most of them here have knit & natter sessions.

Or try googling Liverpool+knitting? And stuff like that.

Or 'Meet Up'. They have meeting for pretty much everything!

Local wool shops?

Bumpity bump bump

bookbook · 17/03/2017 23:05

Sorry Crafty - opposite you in the East of Yorkshire.
Our local facebook group often pops on adverts for crafting meet ups in the local wine bar - not sure how much crafting versus how much wine imbibed mind Grin.
Costa - fingers crossed! :)

Morning.
I'm loving the pesky art!
I have done another version of the block stitch here; got one more idea for one then hopefully it will be out of my system! just about had enough of so many peskies.

RaptorInaPorkPieHat · 18/03/2017 10:25

That's lovely Axolotyl Smile

I spent last night having a massive peskiefest, I really should know better and do them as I go but I never do. (I still only got half of them done).

CraftyGirl I'm nowhere near Liverpool, but (as others have said) round here it's Library/Wool Shops/Churches that seem to have groups running. Smile

CraftyGirly90 · 18/03/2017 18:47

Thanks everyone. All the churches near me don't do them and my nearest library shut down not long ago so may have to try the central one and my nearest crafty/wool shop xx

Jux · 18/03/2017 19:21

Here's my latest offering with many thanks to Yiayoula who sent me the wool.

Thanks, Yiayoula, and 3 cheers!

Another orangey bobble offering - honest K&P, they're going in the post on Monday, I just keeping thinking I'll do one more first.

And nothing to do with Candy's Hugs (sorry!) but I may have accidentally bought one of the Attic 24 kits, which has slightly reduced my squares output. So far I've done 6.5 stripes and there's meant to be 84 overall. I may be some time....

WitchDancer · 18/03/2017 21:18

I've learned a new pattern today Grin

bookbook · 18/03/2017 22:20

Oh , these are all gorgeous
Jux - easier by far to use? :)
Witch - addictive, isn't it!
I have gone back to my first love - just started a texture knit, after a lot of Chernobyl crotchet. Began too late, so not finished yet ...

Jux · 18/03/2017 23:15

Definitely easier, book. A bad workman blames his tools, though Grin

Lovely. I've earmarked a few things to bid on

TheHatOfDoom · 19/03/2017 13:02

@WitchDancer what pattern is that? It's lovely and I've been wanting to try a new pattern, getting a bit sick of granny squares.

MrsHathaway · 19/03/2017 13:39

Wool Warehouse bonanza. Oops ...

ChippingInLovesWoollyHugs · 19/03/2017 16:03

Good shopping MrsH. Good shopping!

CraftyGirly90 · 19/03/2017 16:14

MrsH can I ask how many balls of wool you got and how much it cost you? Sorry if that's a bit cheeky xx

MrsHathaway · 19/03/2017 16:28

Not at all cheeky. I think it's 27 balls at £1.79 with free delivery (over £25) and 10% off with code CHARITY ... for a total of £43.50.

It's a full set of Spiced and Vibrant Riot (minus duplicates).

I have spent a very pleasant afternoon doing snip cards - what are they really called?

WitchDancer · 19/03/2017 17:20

TheHat it's the corner to corner. I learned it from Bella Coco on you tube - it's really easy to do but it looks great Grin

CraftyGirly90 · 19/03/2017 19:02

That's really good MrsH, I'm very tempted by that considering the only wool shop near me sells it for £2.20 a ball xx
