Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort.

Seven blankets already with women on the rocky road of cancer treatment in Candy's name. Love in every stitch we say and it really is true. Together we go on, Candy is with us every step. Star

For anyone joining us, and please do, this is an ongoing project, just jump right in, this explains what we are doing and all crafting info. Thank you EVERYONE! x

Just before Christmas, Zombie donated funds to Woolly Hugs and together we hatched a plan to develop an ongoing project with her, which she loved, to make comforting cosy blankets with love in every stitch for women going through treatment for breast and other cancers, and at times these may form part of palliative care.

So glad we could establish Candy's Hugs with her and thanks to you wonderful people achieve her ambition of seeing it all well underway before her death. Her legacy of Candy's Hugs will be one of love and strength, of friendship, learning and developing crafting skills, of creativity, of coming together to show compassion, support and give and receive comfort, Such a beautiful inspirational woman. How lucky we were to know her. Wine

Anyone seeing this project for the first time, wondering about joining in, make this the day you do! This project is ongoing, and a friendlier more supportive bunch of folk you couldn’t wish to meet. We would love to have you on board, from someone who is keen to learn crochet or knitting to the more experienced, ALL are welcome here. And a lack of funds is no barrier, we have wonderful donors who want to take part and need a crafter, so we can send you yarn, needles and hooks if necessary. It is all about being inclusive and team work.

Our previous threads are the first one here and the second one here.. and third here

We are keeping a photo album on our Facebook page.]] All welcome to join us over there too. Thanks

Zombie was a bright and beautiful woman so we chose a palette to reflect this which we call Vibrant Riot; it is inspired too by a blanket that was made for her to give hugs and comfort as she went through treatment. She had it with her at the end, we were so glad to know it still gave her love, big woolly hugs and comfort.

If you would like to be involved in any way, we’d love to have you on board. Please post on this thread and PM with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, we can help you with all of it.

The yarn is Stylecraft Special DK. Just this please for consistency, and in these colours...

Vibrant Riot Palette
Boysenberry
Claret
Empire
Fuchsia
Grass
Kelly green
Lavender
Lime
Lipstick
Magenta
Meadow
Petrol
Plum
Pomegranate
Saffron
Sherbet
Shrimp
Spice
Turquoise
Tomato
Violet

Squares to be 12 inch or 6 inch, crochet or knitted equally welcome, please use 4mm hook or needles. No blocking necessary and please sew in ends, and make sure any colour changes are firmly knotted.

All crafting abilities genuinely welcome, squares made by beginner or expert will be equally cherished. Simple, complex, single colour, mixed colour. It really is the love and thought that counts.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet in 2017, let's do it! We have help for the complete beginner here…. And all on this thread are on hand to help talk you through as well. YouTube has lots of tutorials, you WILL find one that suits! :)

If you feel ambitious and would like to make a whole blanket, then that is wonderful, we are aiming for blankets approx 48 inches by 60 inches, certainly no smaller.

Candy’s Hugs will be an ongoing project, our next collection date is March 11th, then April 22nd. Do message for posting info when ready.

We are on Facebook - Woolly Hugs and Twitter too @Woolly_Hugs both are good ways to keep in touch. ALL welcome over there.

Thank you so much Thanks

Thanks LEM. I've got a couple of books waiting at Amazon for me and one of them is that! Amazon can't deliver atm, they had a biiiig problem yesterday and took half the internet down with them!

bookbook · 01/03/2017 22:04

well, tomorrow now I guess?
I have not been able to concentrate tonight, have cast on 2 different squares, and pulled both of them out. But I did do a couple of simple crotchet squares for Chernobyl, .
I am awaiting a book from the library - the Jan Eaton one mentioned upthread - its taking its time !

diamantegal · 01/03/2017 22:27

Evening all. Work and life getting in the way of achieving much myself but good to see everyone else's squares.

We must be draining the all the local libraries stashes of crochet books. I'm equally guilty, so if anyone in Surrey is waiting for one (but not the Jan Eaton - think it's 100 colourful squares or something) then apologies, but I'll return it soon!

Jux · 02/03/2017 10:59

The beta.woollyhugs site doesn't seem to working atm. Anyone else have difficulty with it?

bookbook · 02/03/2017 11:06

showing error Jux - has it gone now the new website is up?
This is the new one which transfers from woolly hugs.com - www.woollyhugs.org/

AmethystRaven · 02/03/2017 11:37

I finally have something worth sharing - a bit basic compared to the other beauties but I'm really proud of them!

How is everyone today? Brew all round and Flowers for anyone who needs a cheer up.

Hope it's good news from Stylecraft.

MadisonAvenue · 02/03/2017 12:53

The new website looks great btw!

Yiayoula · 02/03/2017 12:59

Beautiful squares, Amethyst : love the denim blue one with the embroidered flower.
Was hoping for news from Stylecraft also ! -will check back later.

AmethystRaven · 02/03/2017 13:11

Thank you so much. I love making the squares and being part of the Woolly chat Smile I really hope the recipients of the blankets can feel all the good vibes that go into them.

MadisonAvenue · 02/03/2017 13:15

It's a really lovely group to be a part of isn't it? Everyone is so kind and supportive to each other Flowers

bookbook · 02/03/2017 13:59

Afternoon
Just another quick pop in......
Amethyst lovely squares , the embroidered flower is really pretty.
I think we are all really happy to be in this group , its lovely swapping patterns, and having a look at other squares.
I was very lucky to be donated a great big load of every colour, and am also attempting crotchet - still with tutorials though. I have done this in my lunch hour today. I had to fudge the last round - the proper one would have made it too big, so ended up just doing trebles around the outside instead so it came out at 6". I wish I could find a good colour to go with the shrimp though. This one is plum - mind you it was supposed to have a third colour around the outside, but I couldn't make my mind up and stuck to safe.
Back to a textured knit tonight I think :)

Jux · 02/03/2017 14:49

Bookbook, I think the plum gives a great toning contrast to the shrimp. They look good together imo. I don't think yellows would work too well but how about a dark blue?

Jux · 02/03/2017 14:53

Vis a vis the website, I think I got to the beta version through a google search - it was at the top. I've just searched again, and it's the top result again. Using iPad, if you need to know platform, and Safari.

RedGrapeCornSnake · 02/03/2017 14:57

Ooh more lovely squares. I'm having loads of trouble with getting mumsnet to load at the moment, not sure if it's my iPad or the site. I have finished my first set ready for posting, 15 cuddly squares ready, I'm really pleased at how they've come out

SevenTillFour · 02/03/2017 15:22

Oooh, RedGrape they are lovely. Maybe one day I will learn to crochet!

SpiralArchitect · 02/03/2017 15:42

bookbook I am making a note of shrimp and plum together - that looks fab!

RedGrape Gorgeous batch of squares Star

Aroseforemily · 02/03/2017 15:59

I'm a bit concerned that my squares don't seem to have arrived. I posted them second class over a week ago. I've checked on the fb page and there's no sign, they are only simple squares so im not looking for glory or praise but I hate the thought that they're lost.

Marcipex · 02/03/2017 16:24

Aroseforemily, I think they've had a mountain of post to unpack, but I'm sure Knotty or Pistey will reply if you send a pm.

bookbook · 02/03/2017 16:40

afternoon!
I have a wet flannel on my forehead to stop it exploding. I have spent all the time since lunch trying to make some sense of ridiculous taxman letters. But enough said on that .....
Jux - I will try that ! ( not in the least techy, but is a beta version one that is still work in progress? )
thanks Spindelina! - it does work, but I was hoping to be a bit more adventurous!
RedGrape - lovely :)
Arose- I sent mine as a small parcel second class on Monday, and they were on the fb page on Wednesday , so I would definitely check with K&P .

MadisonAvenue · 02/03/2017 16:50

RedGrape I'm having the same problems when using my iPad too. Your squares are lovely!

Those colours work really well book

SaladDressing · 02/03/2017 16:52

RedGrape those are lovely - I dream of squares that look so neat and uniform! Smile

Yiayoula · 02/03/2017 17:30

Hello all !
Seems there are problems accessing the mobile site on I Pads , spent a very frustrating afternoon before downloading the Mumsnet app : can at least read the threads now but am reserving judgement on the app, let's hope MNHQ techie team can sort it soon.
Still nothing from Stylecraft ?

Yiayoula · 02/03/2017 17:34

Well , at least that worked ! Gin
