Our sympathies and thoughts are with daisydotandgertie, who lost her husband this month.

Woolly Hugs is now in action and this is the support and chat thread at which all are welcome - knitters, crocheters and donors. If you are a first time crafter please do have a go. There is bags of support and plain squares are just as important to our endeavour as fancy ones.

As flowers was one of the requested motifs, I'll just note there's a flowers section in the crafting guide. I might try the posies pattern on this sock pattern. For Welsh (or at least Celtic) patterns, I did this for a previous blanket.

Is there a link to explain how to do stripes? It'd be nice to do some stripes instead of my normal plain square.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/04/2013 16:51

You knitting again Kayz?

GlaikitFizzog · 25/04/2013 16:54

Just plain knitting?mckayz? Just change your yarn at the beginning of the next row. Depending on how big y want yr stripes (bigger than 2rows of knitting) break off or carry up the side on the square. I would personally do 2 colours and 2 rows of each colour And carry up the side.

McKayz · 25/04/2013 17:09

I am trying Pistey. Grin DS2 wants me to knit him a fireman he found in a book. HA HA.

Squares I can do, probably a scarf. Anything beyond that and increasing stuff I can not do.

RedRosie · 25/04/2013 17:22

Howdo.

I think it best if Rosie does something very simple.

As.

Simple squares are GOOD. Simple squares are ESSENTIAL.

And.

Simple squares are as ambitious as Rosie should be.

:)

I shall order my wool this evening. Meant to do it last night but kinda just zonked on the sofa after my run. While I wait for delivery I'll get on with my little hug. Will check out the ravelry page too as haven't been on there for ages and ages!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/04/2013 18:15

RatherBeOnThePiste · 25/04/2013 18:16

Strokes chin...

:)

tribpot · 25/04/2013 18:39

Video on - note Liat says you cut off the yarn for the first colour but that's only if you're not going to switch back to it in a few rows (i.e. doesn't apply if you're doing stripes).

explains how to carry the unused colour up the side of the work.

Thanks Tribpot, I'll give it a try.

RedRosie · 26/04/2013 07:12

Peter the Purple Sheep.

I'm becoming typecast :).

Your sheep pattern lovely Trib, has been well exploited.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/04/2013 07:38

I love Peter already.

Hi! Just signing in.

I used the link on the other thread and ordered some James Brett yesterday afternoon from here. It was delivered this morning so speedy delivery and it is on offer at the moment.

I will decide on a couple of patterns when I have finished stroking the balls Wink. Unfortunately I can't hide them behind the sofa and pretend to be using my existing stash as DH was in when the parcel arrived.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/04/2013 17:40

Afternoon all Brew

Just replying to PMs, huge thanks to all. I've just ordered from the same people Hoggy - tis really good value, so good to know they are quick too.

My (mainly) lovely SM appeared today with my late mum's sewing table and - wait for it - a book of knitted meerkats! Grin

LizaRose · 27/04/2013 16:35

My James Brett arrived this morning!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/04/2013 21:12

Signing in, I've made half a daffodil so far.

HoggyTruffle · 27/04/2013 21:39

The James Brett knits up nicely, lovely colours too.

Knitted meerkats droitwichmummy! I don't think I should go looking for that book or it might end up on the bookshelf.

UniqueAndAmazing · 27/04/2013 21:44

I'm actually findingbthe jamesbrett stuff quite hard to crochet with - it's loads of strands and I keep mispicking them.

droitwichmummy · 27/04/2013 23:42

Hoggy I have no idea when I'll get round to trying one out but if it goes badly it may need a new home!
