Support thread for Woolly Hugs - summer (sort of) 2013

Our sympathies and thoughts are with daisydotandgertie, who lost her husband this month.

Woolly Hugs is now in action and this is the support and chat thread at which all are welcome - knitters, crocheters and donors. If you are a first time crafter please do have a go. There is bags of support and plain squares are just as important to our endeavour as fancy ones.

As flowers was one of the requested motifs, I'll just note there's a flowers section in the crafting guide. I might try the posies pattern on this sock pattern. For Welsh (or at least Celtic) patterns, I did this for a previous blanket.

I don't seem to have wool yet.

We are leaving on holiday Thursday night.

Deramores had better speed it up a little. Or I might have to spend a holiday doing nothing productive.

I was just coming to ask if there was a date yet.

My wool arrived!!!! Beautiful apple green and softest palest blue! I packed my crochet hook, DH was like Hmm:o

Talk about good timing. The postie brought it just a few hours before we left for the airport

However, talk about poor timing Angry - my mum ordered me an iPad mini Blush:oBlush and they tried to deliver it yesterday but DH was out (damn him) and they left an "attempted delivery" notice. And we're now at the airport and I'll have to wait until we get back to pick it up. I was so hooing it would arrive in time for our holiday Angry

Most importantly though , you have wool! Grin

Yes but an iPad mini would have ensured that MNing and crafting could both continue full pelt whilst on hols :)

iPad is great for making notes on and following patterns. I use the penultimate app. Take screenshots of patterns and insert.

Let's not rub it in, Glaikit Wink Jacks can discover the joys of tablet owning and crafting when she returns.

Where do you all find your patterns? I'm a knitting novice but looking to improve so any suggestions for pattern books v welcome.

I have 5 hours in hospital on Tuesday to occupy myself so I've earmarked that as knitting time.

Hi Bluey! There is a crafting guide on the woolly hugs website www.woollyhugs.com/crafting-guide/pattern-ideas-for-knitters/

If you haven't already joined Ravelry, there is a treasure trove of patterns waiting for you there for free!

2 squares in the post to pistey! stealth boasting photos here

Each one has mistakes in it, but as wise old SDTG once told me, once you reach perfection there is nowhere else to go! :o

Oh and bluey ravelry dishcloths is what you need to search through. If you aren't to confident about resizing patterns stick to ones with between 33 and 38 stitches as that should bring you in around the 6" mark.

But be warned, once you enter raverly you can never leave, even if you want to :o

I have to finish the square I started for a Billie's Blanket before I can start this one, as I only have one pair of knitting needles! Better get a shift on ...

Report
GlaikitFizzog · 04/05/2013 13:29

Well BIWI you know there is an answer to the predicament you find yourself in. More needles!

Or slip a spare length of yarn through all the stitches of your current project and slide off the needles! If y don't want to buy more needles can't think why you wouldn't

I am trying this pattern www.crochetspot.com/crochet-pattern-granny-square-with-a-flower/

I have figured out most of the American terminology, but can anyone tell me what "3trbb" means in round 5?

Report
HoggyTruffle · 04/05/2013 15:39

LisaRose there is a description at the top of the pattern for 3trbb but it might not be easy to follow. Basically, you do 3 double trebles (UK) but for each one, don't do the last "yarn over hook and pull through 2 stitches". You end up with 4 stitches and then do yarn over hook and pull through all 4. Sounds complicated written down but hope it helps!
