With heavy hearts we bring the desperately sad news that My5boysandme has lost her precious baby son Dexter. We have offered to make the family a blanket, and hope it may give whatever comfort it can to them. We are so pleased that they have accepted. My5boysandme sends thanks to all and is very touched by everyone's kindness and compassion. Here is her original thread Sad

We send My5boysandme all our love and are so sorry for her loss. We are keeping her family close in our thoughts. X

So once again we are calling on the Blanketeers for help - whether it be donating, knitting or crocheting. Will you join us?

If you would like to help in anyway, please post on this thread but also PM me so we know. If you are able to donate, I can match you up with a crafter, or give you our donating information. I will co ordinate, match and deal with any admin. Knotty is here to answer any questions you may have. Sincere heartfelt thanks once again Thanks

As in the past, for consistency, the wools we are using are:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)
  • Rowan Cashsoft DK
  • Sublime Extra Fine Merino Wool DK
  • Artesano Superwash Merino DK

4mm knitting needles or hooks
6" squares, as simple or as complex as you like.

The Colours
Greens, blues, silvers, dark/warm purple and cream.
If choosing cream, we ask that you go for the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK 013

Here is our website Do use the Crafting Guide on it to help you with practical info, and if interested there are a lot of linked suggestions for squares.

Previous blankets can also be seen on the website. We also have a Facebook page: MNWoollyHugs and are on Twitter @MNWoollyHugs. If you 'like' our FB page then you will get all our updates on our progress via your newsfeed.

So sad that another blanket is needed. Sending much love to My5boysandme and her family, and thinking of baby Dexter.

OK wool has been purchased. I went to Hobycraft which was useless, they had the Debbie wool in about 4 shades of brown ! so walked in the rain to John Lewis which was heaven. Now can't wait for DD to go to bed so I can get started. Off to the knitters support thread.

droitwitchymummy · 13/10/2012 20:01

Both Pidj!

Flojo1979 · 13/10/2012 22:48

Are there knitting patterns anywhere for squares that can be followed....for novices who want to challenge themselves a little more than knit a row purl a row?

ManifestingMingeHooHoosAgain · 13/10/2012 22:51

There's some suggestions on the Woolly Hugs site

ManifestingMingeHooHoosAgain · 13/10/2012 22:55

Or you can search for dishcloth patterns. Some of have been using patterns from the 200 crochet blocks and 200 knitted blocks books.

ChippingInLovesAutumn · 13/10/2012 23:26

My5boys it was really lovely of you to post a photo of Dexter, it's very kind of you to share his photo with us. I have been on your thread (under a brief name change) & my thoughts are with you all the time... I would love to knit a couple of squares of a blanket for you - I only wish we didn't need to, but as we are, each stitch will be made with love.

I'll PM you Pisty.

PurplePidjin · 14/10/2012 09:18

I'd like to knit some squares. I'm no expert but I've bought the wool and I'll have a go at some, probably plain, squares.

How many squares do u need pistey? Or do u make the blanket whatever size the squares come to on the cut off date?

KnottyLocks · 14/10/2012 11:10

We do the latter. See what we have and work with that. Smile

KnottyLocks · 14/10/2012 11:11

Hello, lovely Chip Smile
