Following on from our previous support thread please check in here if there's any help, particularly (but not exclusively) knitting help, you need for the squares for 3girlies, who sadly lost her beloved 6-year-old dd Flora recently.

The details of the blanket project are here and it directs you to the Crafting Guide on Woolly Hugs, with specific sections for crocheters and knitters. I am still maintaining the original document mostly because I haven't got around to separating out the stuff that's already on Woolly Hugs now from the newer suggestions we've had in the last few weeks. So please, by all means do send me suggestions for new patterns or ideas.

For those of you on Ravelry and participating in the Ravellenic games, I think squares could be entered under a number of categories such as balance beads, doubleknit boxing, lace longjump among possibly some others.

Fabulous, Rosie Grin

RedRosie · 31/08/2012 19:51

I thought it had literary merit in a small way Trib.

Comedy, topicality, tragedy (poor Pitsey falling from her stool), iambic pentameter (once anyway), pathos ...

Yay! I got a mention! Tonight is the night I sew in all my pesky ends! And there are at least 10 on each flower! More for the multi coloured ones!! I will try to post them tomorrow pistey. If not it will be Monday. Wine

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 19:53

Pathos? What has a holiday resort got to do with poetry?

tribpot · 31/08/2012 20:08

Pathos and bathos, Rosie! (And no, Glaikit, that is not the town down the road from Pathos Wink)

GlaikitFizzog · 02/09/2012 17:25

The last 2 photos here will be winging their way to you tomorrow pistey. The are for the last 3 projects and I'll label them properly. I have missed and matched so e of the wool for other projects I hope that's ok, but there number of squares for each blanket relates to the donor wool I got. Bag of flowers also coming.

MinnieBar · 02/09/2012 18:24

Skiving?!! How did you know very dare you?

GlaikitFizzog · 02/09/2012 18:30

KnottyLocks · 02/09/2012 22:26

Skiving? Shock

GlaikitFizzog · 03/09/2012 12:50

Icord border of doom question trib. Can't see the picked up colour now, guess it just took some practice, but my new wooden needles are really sticking in the wool. I've gone downa size to make the picking up easier as my cast off is still a little tight. Any suggestions greatly received as I have a lager blanket to do and so far have only done 2 inches! Oh and baby it's for is 4/5 engaged! No pressure!!

tribpot · 03/09/2012 13:17

Hmm, Glaikit - I think I've only done picking up using metal needles, actually. Plus my knitting is hopelessly loose. Have you tried it on one of the edges that isn't a cast-off edge? You might find it's sufficiently easier then that you can battle through the first edge knowing it will get easier.

Are you picking up a whole series of stitches in one go? I just wonder if it might be easier, if rather tedious, to knit a normal icord and then sew it on?

GlaikitFizzog · 03/09/2012 13:22

I've got 4mm dpns and a 3 1/4 straight needles I could swap to, if need be. I'm only picking up half a dozen stitches at a time because they are so tight. I'm actually sweating doing it! I'll persevere, maybe using my crochet hook will work?? Makes my bind off looser when I use it.

I really wanted to love my new symphonies but I'm not feeling it :(

GlaikitFizzog · 03/09/2012 13:23

Oh and before I get too far in, did you knit your right side or wrong side facing? I can't tell which way looks the right way on the 4inches I've done

RatherBeOnThePiste · 03/09/2012 13:28

Hello Smile

On the way to the post room at work this minute, Pistey Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 03/09/2012 13:48

Feeding ds, then off for a walk in the sun to the post office!

tribpot · 03/09/2012 14:10

I think you need to be going into the stitch below the cast-off, Glaikit. Not the cast-off itself. Obv when you get to the other sides, they won't have a cast-off to try and drive your needle through - give it a try. Or do a test piece with a loose cast-off so you don't kill yourself or your needles in the attempt yet.

I think it should be right side facing but I'm struggling to visualise it in the office.

Thanks Trib, I've watched the video you linked to ages ago, and I can't tell what way she is knitting. Unfortunately because it's a log cabin blanket most of the edges are cast off edges, so I've frogged and started again, but have picked up from below the cast off, so I'll see how I get on that way.

Pistey, parcel on its way to you!

tribpot · 03/09/2012 16:12

Ah now I think she has slipped the final stitch on that blanket, Glaikit, I'm not convinced she is showing you how to do an icord on the cast-off edge. I shall investigate further when I get home!
