Following on from our previous support thread please check in here if there's any help, particularly (but not exclusively) knitting help, you need for the squares for 3girlies, who sadly lost her beloved 6-year-old dd Flora recently.

The details of the blanket project are here and it directs you to the Crafting Guide on Woolly Hugs, with specific sections for crocheters and knitters. I am still maintaining the original document mostly because I haven't got around to separating out the stuff that's already on Woolly Hugs now from the newer suggestions we've had in the last few weeks. So please, by all means do send me suggestions for new patterns or ideas.

For those of you on Ravelry and participating in the Ravellenic games, I think squares could be entered under a number of categories such as balance beads, doubleknit boxing, lace longjump among possibly some others.

That's the one Trib. Only mine looks like my four-yr-old did the stitching.

With her eyes closed Grin

I'll have another bash at it tomorrow. Or else you'll be getting a plain, simple square with holes in at evenly-spaced intervals?

Somersaults · 30/08/2012 23:06

Oooh I've had a bash at that one with left over wool but sadly only had enough wool left to sew half of the flowers Sad. It ended up with the top half lovely and the bottom half just full of holes. needless to say it didn't make it into my envelope for Pistey.

KnottyLocks · 30/08/2012 23:13

Oh I love that daisy pattern. We've had a couple of them on previous blankets and they are just gorgeous.

As I'm sure yours will be, Minnie Grin

tribpot · 30/08/2012 23:18

Well Minnie if you run out of patience, you're welcome to send it here and I'll have a bash at it.

KnottyLocks · 30/08/2012 23:21

Minnie, have you tried doing the four points of the compass first then fill in the other petals after?

MinnieBar · 31/08/2012 07:22

Yes Blush

I did try one quite near a border though, so I might retry on a middle one where I've got more space all round.

Thanks Trib - I might be PMing you later!!

RedRosie · 31/08/2012 09:30

I've not been able to contribute to this blanket (although I could probably do so now if you are short of squares Pitsey/Trib/Knotty?)

But would you like a poem?

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 09:39

A poem would be lovely Rosie!

RedRosie · 31/08/2012 09:48

I shall start work immediately.

I thought of (somehow) linking the Olympics and Paralympics to the crafty women of MN in a poetic style, but the rhymes are tricky ... Will report back. I'm sure people have been seen knitting in the venues :)

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 09:54

To rhyme with Olympics your choices are slim picks!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/08/2012 10:19

Rosie!

tribpot · 31/08/2012 11:16

A Rosie poem - what a gift for the end of the holidays! Go Rosie!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/08/2012 12:04

And Rosie lovely, if you'd like to knit a square for 3g, I have some lovely woolly wool I can pop i the post?

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 12:12

Pistey, while you are here, I have knitted a few quite a lot actually flowers. What would be best, me to sew them on to my plain squares or to send them individually to be added as the hookers so wish?? Happy to do either.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/08/2012 12:15

Why not do a combination of both? Everyone's a winner Grin

The loose ones are really great to have for the look of the blanket overall iyswim, but you should maybe choose some for yourself?

RedRosie · 31/08/2012 12:37

Pitsey!

I am working on it mentally while avoiding spreadsheets ... There may be results this evening. I can use the commute as thinking time.

I have enough wool I think, if an amateur plain square is needed.

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 12:47

I love spreadsheets! I have a mug to prove it!

tribpot · 31/08/2012 13:06

Weird, Glaikit .. one of my friends posted a picture of an 'I Heart Spreadsheets' mug yesterday ... I got told off for being too enthusiastic about the purpose of the final argument in a VLOOKUP. I tell ya, we IT people know how to rock.

OP posts:
GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 16:08

Vlookups are probably my most favourite formulas! Then concatenate. or maybe conditional formatting, oh I can't choose, it like choosing your favourite child! Good job I only have one!

When you say final argument do you mean the true or false bit?? I always put false, but don't know why!

I'm about to start a course to make me a n excel guru at work. Unbelievably excited!

Baskets45 · 31/08/2012 16:54

So i have some square ready to send? same address as before?

MinnieBar · 31/08/2012 17:42

Flower embroidery is looking? better, but not remotely quite like the pic. Still, you could always put some of Glaikit's knitted flowers on top maybe? I honestly won't be too offended!

tribpot · 31/08/2012 17:50

Baskets45, if you PM RatherBeOnThePiste, she'll confirm the address for these squares.

Glaikit - yes, the true or false bit. This was the subject of much discussion on Facebook (yes really) - everyone always sets it to false (meaning don't do a 'range lookup' or 'random guess' as it maybe should be called) but if you were doing a lookup for a particular date I guess you might want to do a range lookup. Silly.

I'm dealing with one of the worst spreadsheets I've ever seen at the moment. Let me know if you'd like it :)

Minnie - still happy to have a go for you if you'd like!

GlaikitFizzog · 31/08/2012 18:00

Why not! Whats it for! I love a goo spreadsheet, pivot tables and macros, are my idea of heaven.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 31/08/2012 19:17

Squares for 3 are coming here, Baskets lovely I'm PMing you now Thanks

A gentle reminder that the deadline for posting is Monday 3rd, which would seem to be this coming Monday!
I'll be in my office if anyone wants to talk to me Grin

Have a good evening all Wine

Poem on the occasion of crafting at the Olympics

"Olympics" is a difficult word
To use with poetic aims ...
So Rosie is using another she heard
And extensively working with "Games"

Trib just got home from the Velodrome
Where she saw some women sitting ...
Saw a hint of wool, thought "hey - that's cool!"
They must have brought their knitting!

Pitsey, our Pitsey, went to the pool
(She really is good looking ...)
She cheered and clapped and fell off her stool
And was awarded a gold for her hooking

Meanwhile at the high-board diving
Tom Daley was ready to leap
Minnie and Glaikit and Knotty were skiving
They've not done a stitch for a week

It has been a wet and soggy season
(If you only think of the weather)
Which has given us the perfect reason
To knit warm woolly hugs together.
