We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Hi, I am a very beginner knitter (needles and wool arrived on Thursday) I have sort of mastered a normal knit stitch and would like to donate a square if I can do a whole one without dropping a stitch. Is there a deadline?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 19:30

Indeed there is my lovely Thanks

The deadline for MrsKwazii's blanket is Monday 26th March

(If you are also talking about the Blanket for Wubbly's family, excuse me if not, the deadline is Monday 19th March)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/03/2012 19:38

Another fabulous group of donors have done their thing, and wool has arrived safely with our crafty crafters, and cash donations with us. Many thanks to all donors, we truly appreciate your generosity. Thanks

Thank you! I would hope to do a couple of squares. I'm happy for them to be used for either blanket. I'll pm you later when I'm not on my phone. :)

I know some people are still waiting for wool deliveries from a donor.

Please don't worry, wool will come.

If you are still waiting after the post arrives tomorrow, please drop me a PM and I will follow it up for you...

Wine Cheers

Al0uise · 02/03/2012 20:18

Really sorry about the delay PrettyPirate I had a cock up with Paypal but it went first class from here today.

As I have another couple of balls coming due to my mix up I've decided to get a crochet hook and give that a go.

KnottyLocks · 02/03/2012 20:22

Another crochet convert

Hooooozah!

It's very heartwarming to see just how many people are giving crochet and knitting a try to contribute to these projects.

Slovely < sigh>

I'm nearly done on my first square. It's been quite lovely doing this so far and I sat in the garden in the sunshine today thinking about a family that I don't know personally, and know little about, wishing them the best at a tragic horrible time. I'm going to finish it this evening and hopefully start another.

PrettyPirate · 02/03/2012 20:27

That's ok, Al0ise, things like that can happen. I just couldn't sit on my hands, so started little blanket with leftover bits of wool for DD's dolls bed, it's nearly done and has made her very happy. Time not wasted at all Smile

I ordered my wool on tuesday morning from cucumberpatchto be delivered direct but I don't think it has arrived , do I need to chase them yet ?

DirtyMartini · 02/03/2012 20:41

travelling, I think Tuesday morning was when I ordered, too, and mine seems to have reached the donor today. Maybe give it another day?

Thanks for the thanks Piste - remarkable levels of organization. I'm so impressed with everyone who is doing the making, too. The squares look/sound wonderful.

travellingwilbury · 02/03/2012 20:42

Thanks , will give it till tomorrow and then chase them up , so much for next day delivery .

They have however managed to take the money out same day so at least I know it is in the pipeline .

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 20:50

Pippi - I hope your hospital appointment went well.

Whenis - Maybe next time?? We have one little one today and he was a total delight - I tried to pop him in my bag, but I think he would have missed his mummy too much! How's the patient today? I can't see your square on your flicker link?

Methe - I bought some bamboo needles at JL yesterday, they are lovely and smooth, but tbh - I can't say I thought they were anything special over regular needles? Maybe I need to switch back to really check it out??

GO - What a lovely Woolly Fairy!! Are they bamboo needles?

Donkey - well done!! :)

I am NOT a crochet convert :( Poor poor Pidj tried to teach me today - I'm unteachable!! I will have another go once my squares are on their way - I think I learn better from seeing things written down with diagrams - and if not, I'll bribe Pidj into another lesson!!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 20:52

Travelliing try not to be too cross - they probably ran out of stock with this sudden influx of orders and had to wait for a delivery to send some out. I hope it arrives tomorrow - it's miserable waiting!

travellingwilbury · 02/03/2012 20:57

chipping I am not cross really , just for once I managed to be all efficient so obviously everyone else has to be as well Blush

This thread is making me want to learn to knit but going on past experiences I would buy all the stuff and look at lots of lovely patterns and not be an expert in two days and give up .

I have a lovely selection of watercolour paints somewhere gathering dust because I wasn't up to monet standard in a fortnight .

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 21:20

Travelling I feel your pain! I have detailed my saga of getting the wool!! I now have some 7 balls more than I actually needed, but hey

Knitting is WAY WAY WAY easier then crochet!! I could teach you in 5 mins :)

Painting... bah...

I haven't received mine yet travelling but I'm in Ireland so will probably take a while! I enquired in two craft shops but neither do Debbie Bliss or Rowan. My colleague who knits a lot told me about some knitting shop in Dublin City Centre but I rarely ever get to Dublin City Centre as it is the least buggy-friendly place there is.

PippiL · 02/03/2012 21:41

So glad a lovely time was had today.

Physio did ultrasound on my knee to help reduce swelling...fun!

I have converted to wooden circular needles with interchangeable tips [http://www.woolgathering.org.uk/2009/10/knitpro-symfonie-wooden-interchangeable-circular-needles/ these]

I love em. Love that I can learn knitting in the round, and do my flat stuff on them too.

TimeForCake · 02/03/2012 21:41

My cucumberpatch order was delayed too. When I rang, they said it was because my choice was out of stock, but because it was imminent, they didn't worry about getting in touch. It arrived the next day so don't worry. Guess they've had a bit of a MN run! They were very helpful in case you do need to ring.
