We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Bugger, try again these

PurplePidjin · 02/03/2012 21:47

Pippin, I'm sure it's very clever but it makes no sense to a dunce like me!

PippiL · 02/03/2012 21:54

You just turn the needles round to do the other side!

Apparently in Scandinavia they rarely sell straight needles nowadays.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 02/03/2012 22:15

Pippi - been there done that with ultrasound on the knee! Horrible as that is, I'm pleased it wasn't anything more 'serious' though. Those needles look interesting... but they seem a bit 'technical' I quite like the simplicity of the knitting needle old fossil that I am

KnottyLocks · 03/03/2012 07:03

Morning, lovely people Smile

Morning

LackaDAISYcal · 03/03/2012 10:00

Am I too late to join in the crafting? I always seem to miss the initial threads, but I'm an avid knitter and crochetter. I'm hampered from doing big projects by silly swollen finger joints at the minute, but I can cope with squares.

Let me know if I can help :)

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 03/03/2012 10:38

Thank you to my donor. Three beautiful balls of dusky pink Debbie Bliss have arrived. I shall make a start today.

alibubbles · 03/03/2012 11:37

Oh gosh, how sad, happy to knit again as always, just need some wool please

GlaikitFizzog · 03/03/2012 12:39

Can any one link to a good video on how to pick up dropped stitches? Or should I just rip out and start again?

Methe · 03/03/2012 12:52

Crikey, I ordered some knitting needles and knitting is HARD! Shock I find crochet easy so have the hump a bit that I can't even seem to cast on with 2 needles Angry

I ordered some more wool too so I'm going to do a square for wubblys blanket to add in the parcel :)

hoops997 · 03/03/2012 13:01

PantryBoy are you in Wales, if so that was me, glad they arrived safely :)

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 03/03/2012 13:22

hoops997 I am in Wales.

I have just finished my first square - thank you for your generosity. I rarely use pink shades when I crochet but this ome is beautiful. It is lovely yarn to work with.

PurplePidjin · 03/03/2012 13:29

LackaDAISYcal and alibubbles send pm to RatherBeOnThePiste and she'll give you all the info Thanks

hoops997 · 03/03/2012 13:54

it was quite reasonably priced too, 3 balls cost £10.50, thought that was good, the wool feels lovely :)

DonkeyTeapot · 03/03/2012 14:00

GlaikitFizzog I don't think you need to start again, you can use a crochet hook to pull your dropped stitch up through the rows - do you know how many rows back it went? I'll see if I can find a video.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 03/03/2012 14:01

I've done 2 squares but being the perfectionist i am I am not too sure they are good enough. The are slightly under 6 inches one side. So I am starting another one and if I run out of wool (I only have one ball) I'll unpick one of the first ones!

Looks good, very clear. (She uses her knitting needle rather than a crochet hook but the principle is the same.)
KnottyLocks · 03/03/2012 14:22

FruitShoot, they sounds fine. I can work with 'slightly' under. Smile

Molehillmountain · 03/03/2012 14:43

I have finished my first square Smile. I think it's six inches, but the pattern I have done doesn't lie quite flat. I think it will when part of blanket or pressed. If not it'll be just under six inches. Will do more sensible stitch for next square.

FruitShootsAndHeaves · 03/03/2012 14:49

Oh ok. The second one will prob be ok then. The first one needs a 'bit' of stretching!

I did a Care Bear design on mine, You have to look closely though as I only had one colour ! Grin

I've tried to message Pistie and the contact does not appear to be working, I get the mumsnet web address come up in a box!

GleamingHeels · 03/03/2012 15:37

alibubbles are you used to using message poster and therefore are more likely to have a technical problem which you should tell MNHQ about I think, or do you think you need help with how to send a message?
