We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Ok I'll keep away from tge 10mm hook, for now [frin]

I do have a couple of handmade cardigans that were given to dd that I am going to unravel and have a go with making something.

duchesse · 01/03/2012 10:47

Thanks Pidj, have now PMed Pistey.

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 10:51

Might be a bit kinky, LovesBeing

The wool, I mean Wink

nickelhasababy · 01/03/2012 11:12

Pooh - when are you coming to the shop's meeting?
if you state a date and time, it might get others coming.

should we discuss at WI?

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 11:15

I have happy childhood memories of unravelling old jumpers with my gran, winding the wool into loose skeins round chair legs and then steaming the kinks out before winding it into balls. [sigh]

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 11:19

I have a couple of cashmere jumpers that the moths have got to. Might unravel them and leave in the bathroom for a few days!

In other news, I have wool Grin one Grey and one navy Debbie Bliss from cucumberpatch. Thank you KM Thanks

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 11:36

Contrary to current health and safety directives, we steamed them over a kettle. I didn't scald my fingers too many times :o The joys of old fashioned kettles...

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 11:59

I have one in the campervan

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 12:04

Something I learnt recently, by accident, is that if you don't shut the lid of an automatic kettle, it doesn't stop boiling.

PurpleSquid · 01/03/2012 13:00

I have done something wrong. Confused

I cast on 33 stitches but my square is too wide - 7 inches instead of 6.

What am I doing wrong?

Do I need to start again? It's 5 inches long, so far. :(

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 01/03/2012 14:19

I have wool Grin

Thank you to the sender it's a lovely green Thanks

I have also received my hook as well so there is no stopping me now eck!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:20

Just popping in to say I know that because Knotty hooks the blankets together it is much easier if squares aren't blocked, because she can find it difficult getting her hook through, so please DON'T block squares

I have a big pile of PMs, and need to catch up on the thread from this morning.

I shall start now Brew

Thanks everyone

Thanks
Methe · 01/03/2012 14:22

What does 'block' mean?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:25

I will only tell you if you promise not to do it!

Methe · 01/03/2012 14:25

I hope I haven't done it already

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:31

Have you ironed your square?

Methe · 01/03/2012 14:34

No Confused

Dou want me to?

Methe · 01/03/2012 14:34

do you*

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 14:36

No - that's what blocking is :) More or less.

Methe · 01/03/2012 14:36

Phew!

DutchOma · 01/03/2012 14:39

Whatevertheweather I made the teddy, I've got tears in my eyes to hear your dd enjoys it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:40

Tis all good Methe!! Just don't Grin I would be too worried I'd set fire to it, so I couldn't do it anyway!

Please DON'T block squares!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:43

LovesBeing - I posted that wool onto to you, it was from someone who was on the thank you list from yesterday Thanks to the lovely donor.

And you are right it is a gorgeoise colour. I'd quite like shoes that colour.....

tribpot · 01/03/2012 14:43

Oh - why don't you block squares?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 14:46

Because Knotty crochets the blankets together it is much easier if squares aren't blocked, because she finds it difficult getting her hook through.
