We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

I agree with lovely Whatever - Knotty's Twitter birds that are going to go on this blanket for MrsKwazii are so cuuuuute.

If anyone is around can they send me a quick PM?
Now I'm worried it's jammed again
Just a hello to make sure all is well?

Well I have been practising whilst waiting for my wool and my hook to arrive and have managed to do a big row of chain stitch Grin. I did quite a lot, (as long as the big remote control) and started to try tge slip stich but I'm using a 2.5 mm hook and hope think it'll be easier with the 4mm hook.

Well done to everyone who manages anything more complicated.

How many squares do I need to do? How many can be made with one ball of wool?

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 06:55

I tried with a 2.5,mm hook at first - it is indeed way easier with a 4!

I get about 3 squares out of one ball - obviously it depends how dense the square it. Traditional granny squares should make about 3 per ball though with some left over.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/03/2012 07:02

LovesBeing - I get 2 out of a ball of wool. Why not aim for one first Smile
But maybe see if you can make one for each blanket? That would be marvellous.

Thanks

Really must get my arse into gear..
Back at lunchtime.

KnottyLocks · 01/03/2012 07:08

Morning all Smile

I've got to head off to work soon but will check in illegally at points during the day and will be back later.

LovesBeing, switch to a 4mm hook, it's much easier!

LittleBoxes, go you with your stripes Smile

WhatEverTheWeather, thanks for checking out Twitter bird. I am so pleased that the blanket is bringing you comfort. I can see you and DD now all snuggly Smile

Don't worry, not getting ahead of myself I promise Grin

KnottyLocks · 01/03/2012 07:17

LovesBeing, step away from the 10mm hook!

OP posts:
SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 07:20

A 10mm hook wouldn't be easier unless you had the fat wool to match :)

PippiL · 01/03/2012 07:36

Up late last night due to the "just. One. More. Row" thing!

Mastered the bobble required for the pattern finally, yay.

KnottyLocks · 01/03/2012 07:40

PippiL, brilliant!

That 'One.More.Row' is affecting my beauty sleep badly! And I sure need it at the moment.

DH does laugh at my high tech knitting. I have my iPad on my lap with mumsnet the pattern. And my phone on next to me with my row counter app on.

Hope the newbies are getting on ok with squares today. I'm still pretty new to knitting myself. Loving learning a new skill.

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 08:59

Heehee Pippin, I crochet over the PlayBook. How else can I take advantage of all the lovely free patterns Grin

SoupDragon · 01/03/2012 09:19

I take a screenshot of the pattern on my iPad and then use this as a page in my Penultimate app. I can then cross off the rows as they're done and make notes and tally charts to keep track of where I am :o

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 09:33

Envy Soupie, you has Skillz!!

Methe · 01/03/2012 09:36

I've finished mine now so can get them posted back asap.

One of my squares has come up a bit bigger then the other and I dont really understand why so hopefully they will be ok.

i think I might go and buy some knitting needles today Grin

PoohBearsHole · 01/03/2012 09:49

2, I have completed 2! Hooray!

Hopefully they will suffice, have done a plain square and then I tried something someone mentioned up thread of diagonal and that looks a little different but has come out very nicely!

Am going to attempt moss stitch later on but am enjoying it a lot, dd wants me to make her one and ds one so we shall see. Have discovered its a good thing to experiment with! Am now buying a ruler!

Whenisitmysleepytime · 01/03/2012 09:50

Gaaaargh! Shouldn't try to crochet after a hectic day and too little sleep. I ended pulling it all out as it was too loopy in places. Dh couldn't tell but it was making my OCD side twitchy.

Glad everyone is getting along well with they wooly work. :)

Methe · 01/03/2012 09:53

What's moss stitch Pooh? thats sounds interesting.

We need more pictures!

tribpot · 01/03/2012 10:17

Moss stitch and seed stitch.

duchesse · 01/03/2012 10:23

Oh my goodness. How awful. Sad

I will knit squares but please can I be matched with a donor as funds are very tight atm?

PurplePidjin · 01/03/2012 10:31

Duchess, RatherBeOnThePiste is coordinating and she's at work this morning. Drop her a pm and she'll put you into her sooperwhizzy efficient spreadsheet Thanks
