We have just heard the tragic and devastating news that MrsKwazii's daughter has passed away today in an accident. She was 4 Sad

We would like to make a blanket for MrsKwazii's family, to offer them what comfort we can.
If you would like to contribute in any way, please sign up below and PM RatherbeOnThePiste with your offer: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, etc. She'll match you up.

We need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

The wool we are using is:

  • Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK (NOT the baby cashmerino)

  • or Rowan Cashsoft DK.

They are very similar and can be combined.

  • 4mm knitting needles or hooks

  • cast on 33 stitches (this is a guide for less experienced knitters)

  • 6" squares

The Colours:

Blues, warm purples, greens, silver/ greys and pinks.

Another fabulous donor whose wool arrived safely today with their crafter...

Thanks Mrs HerculePoirot

I'm going to start knitting tonight after a couple of days dithering. Have chosen three simple new stitches to try and feel almost guilty about how much I've enjoyed the process so far. But that's okay, isn't it? Haven't forgotten why we're making this blanket-just want it to be my best, nicest knitting (such as that is).

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 19:34

Methe - that's a really lovely square :)

Pistey - I have done 21 rows. I still have the same number of stitches that I started with - well done you!!

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 19:36

Molehill - I can't see how some happiness stitched into the blanket could possibly be a bad thing can you?

MrsHerculePoirot · 29/02/2012 19:40

Woohoo! Glad my wool has arrived - was worried I'd do it wrong...

Thanks again for organising it.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 20:50

MrsHercule - you did it just right and your crafter was absolutely delighted and couldn't wait to get cracking this evening Thanks

RatherBeOnThePiste · 29/02/2012 20:50

EVEN MORE fabulous donors have got wool to their lovely crafters. We really appreciate all your efforts. Marvellissimo!!

So a very big THANK YOU to the following donors, your wool has arrived safely..

PurplePidjin · 29/02/2012 21:22

Cast on 33 stitches. Knit forty something rows till it measures 6". Sew in pesky ends. Post :)

Methe, that is lovely.

I'm on row 29.

Need to learn how to do bobbles...feel a You Tubing coming on

PippiL · 29/02/2012 22:07

Poohbear, just keep knitting your 33. It will come good.

KnottyLocks · 29/02/2012 22:09

Lovely to see little woolly packages arriving.

Also all the fabulous squares underway.

Oh that didn't make any sense... Sorry, I can't read properly. Blush

I normally just measure to the top of my needles and then allow a little bit for the last cast off row.

BarbaraWoodlouse · 29/02/2012 22:13

Ha ha Pistey - you are very welcome to my PM cherry Grin

PippiL · 29/02/2012 22:45

Oh my, that mini bobble stitch just caused me some heartache. Still not sure if it's worked properly.

Whatevertheweather · 29/02/2012 23:26

Yay glad my wool arrived safely Smile Think it may have gone to Rubycon

Knotty saw the twitter bird on facebook - it's fab! Thanks

I'm posting this curled under my mn blanket and dd1 is tucked up in bed clutching a little white knitted teddy from a lovely mnetter. To everyone contributing - the comfort your wool and squares bring should never ever be underestimated. You are all wonderful Thanks

LittleBoxes · 29/02/2012 23:30

Hello, I am more of an MN lurker these days but I 'know' MrsKwazii on Twitter and really want to contribute. Have ordered some wool but am not really an advanced knitter - is it OK just to contribute some plain squares rather than anything fancy?

LittleBoxes · 29/02/2012 23:31

Sorry, have just realised this question was dealt with earlier in the thread! Will get on with my no-frills (but heartfelt) knitting then.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 29/02/2012 23:41

LittleBoxes - Hi :) Which colour(s) have you chosen? & did you choose the Rowan cashsoft DK or the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino DK? - Have you used either before. It's been a bit of a drama but I think I am finally going to get my wool tomorow :)

LittleBoxes · 29/02/2012 23:59

I got three different colours of the Debbie Bliss one. I may do stripes!
