We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

Thank you all so very much Thanks

I know that feeling, Minnie. My not quite 5 year old DS had a very big squeeze from me when I heard about Wubbly and Lawrie.

Deafworm, we'd love your DD to do a square. Smile

As a few people have asked, we have no preference with regards to knitting and crochet. We love both. You make what you like to and we'll love them whatever

We welcome all crafters be they experienced or learners.

We've had quite a few people learn to knit because of these projects.
Pistey certainly did and I switched sides and taught myself crochet to speed myself up a bit!
Folks have even sent squares with safety pins in, holding dropped stitches. Normally I can do a salvage if needed. The addition of a quick crochet flower can also work! I know Pidj loves these squares as much as I do.

These blankets are never about perfection. They are about hearts.

Many many photos can be found at www.facebook.com/mimapants in the photos, Mumsnet Blankets folder.

It's my business page - ignore that I'm not trying to promote it, it's just public access!

It would be fantastic to see contributors of all ages at the knit and natter

PurplePidjin · 23/02/2012 08:56

To me the wonky and squiffy ones are the most important. It takes me about half an hour to crochet a granny square, but the most valuable things are the ones you have to work to achieve.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 23/02/2012 09:02

My wool is ordered and is on it's way to a warm hearted knitter ...x

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/02/2012 09:07

I have learnt to crochet thanks to these projects, I am happy to join in again, will PM Pistey.

Ladyface · 23/02/2012 09:11

I have some wool so will get knitting right away.

moogdroog · 23/02/2012 10:47

Signing up for my first ever blanket - would love to be involved if knitters are still needed? Could do with a lovely donor though (still on ML). Will pm now.

BigBoobiedBertha · 23/02/2012 10:59

Haven't read the whole thread yet, but just wanted to say that I am happy to pick up the knitting needles again and do a square or two. I still have lots of blues and purples from other blankets so I can get on with it.

Do we have a date to be working to?

Bluebell99 · 23/02/2012 11:28

Hello, I would like to help and can knit, but I would need to get some wool. I will check local shops.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 23/02/2012 11:55

Count me in. And someone has already asked me to knit some squares for her, so I'm sorted for wool.

GetOnYourDancingShoes · 23/02/2012 12:31

Will start tonight.
Happy to knit from donated yarn.

rubycon · 23/02/2012 12:41

prettybird · 23/02/2012 14:23

Got some nice muted purple I can use. Might also get some cream and incorporate a flower/snowflake pattern adapted from the piece I am knitting at the moment.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 23/02/2012 14:32
Thanks Have replied to all PMs, and have PMd Duchesse and Codandchops on the old thread too. Welcome to you Pretty Smile

Many thanks to everyone, truly such amazing support, tis really heartwarming. This is going to be a beautiful blanket for WubblyBubbly's family. Lots of wool will soon be flying around the country again, I think some crafters may even receive theirs as early as tomorrow Smile Thanks
