We have heard the very sad news that our own lovely WubblyBubbly passed away very peacefully this week, after two years living with breast cancer. MrWubbly let us know on this thread, where many have expressed their condolences and shared their memories of Wubbly.

We have offered to make a blanket for MrWubbly and their son, Lawrie. MrWubbly has said that both he and Lawrie would love this and they are very touched by the idea. We hope that it may bring whatever comfort it can to them both.

So, we need knitters, crocheters and donors. If you would like to donate wool, then we can match you up with a crafter.

RatherBeOnThePiste will coordinate and match crafters and donors, and deal with the admin side. I'll try to answer any queries you may have and will put together the blanket.

If you would like to be involved in any way, please post on this thread and PM Pistey with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, etc, and she will match you up.
If you are offering to donate, we would be grateful if you would let us know if you'd like to donate 1 or 2 balls of wool. They cost roughly £5 per ball.

Crafters, if you need wool please let Pistey know if you'd like 1 or 2 balls of wool.
One ball should make at least 2 x 6" squares.

I think it would be fairly straightforward to crochet separate jellyfish, octopus and fish and stitch them onto plain squares.

Hi, I remember making squares for blankets when at school (long time ago, lol)
We used to knit them diagonally, they kept there shape better.

So instead of casting on 33 stitches say, you start with one stitch and increase a stich each row till you get to the middle, then decrease a stitch each row till your left with the last one. I never learnt to knit properly but i found this way easier than having to cast on and cast off. And the squares were more hardwearing done this way, whichever way they got streched. Hope this helps.

We've had diagonal knits in the past.

The way the blankets are constructed using a double crochet join helps the blankets to keep a reasonable shape we hope

Hejhog has cashmerino dk at 4.34 a ball in some nice colours, free delivery if you spend over £24 I think - I have used them before, delivery tends to be slow sometimes but they are very good. If anyone else spots any bargains for the wool can we please add them? Have PM'd Pistey too twice sorry

With regards to the squares being 33 stitches across, is that knitting in stocking stitch or garter stitch?

Can I ask a picky wool question - I know it needs to be DB cashmerino not baby cashmerino.

But the Rowan Cashoft DK and Baby Cashsoft DK are the same fibre blend and same meterage as each other - will either of the rowan ones do? McADirect has some light blue on offer and free delivery over £10

we've just used that as a basic guide for less experienced knitters. It all depends on tension really. It's possible that you may need a few more stitches for stocking stitch than garter as it seems a bit tighter when finished.

That's a point. Does it have to be stocking stitch or garter? I can do both so it's not a problem either way.

DSTW, normally the 'baby' wools tend to be thiner even though they say they're DK. I haven't felt the Baby Cashsoft so can't be sure though.
When in doubt, we'd prefer to stick with what we know works. Hope that's ok.
