We have heard the dreadfully sad news that Chipmonkey's baby daughter died unexpectedly this week. Condolence thread is here Chipmonkey has said tonight that she would love to receive a MN blanket.

Because Knotty is snowed under a mountain of wool, I am taking on the coordination for this, so if you are a donor or a crafter needing a match - please PM me and I will match you up. I know there is an amazing army of donor, knitter and crochet stars, and I am hoping that you will feel able to help with this blanket too.

So if you feel that you can help, please PM me with your offers: crafting, donating, need wool, don't need wool, and I will sort it all out, and when you are ready to post, PM me for the address.

I will have to get back on the deadline...

But thank you in advance.

got in contact with cucumber patch as the ball of wool has still not arrived and they were so nice they are sending me out a new ball. So hopefully it will be here very soon, as I want to send the squares this saturday or monday. I think royal mail are a bit slow on the sorting (and thats not having a go at them as my DH is a postie)

KnottyLocks · 18/10/2011 09:35

Morning Smile

I've finally put Whatevertheweather's blanket together, just the edging to go. I'll sort pics out as soon as I find my camera. Don't hold your breath.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 18/10/2011 10:18

wow! well done knotty!!!

think you'll need some Brew Biscuit Wine and Thanks

and many many Stars!!!

Thzumbazombiewitch · 18/10/2011 12:17

Knotty - that's fab. Well done Thanks and Wine

Umm, anyone seen this thread? Another MNer has just lost her DH to cancer - 3 children, teens and preteens :(. Another blanket, maybe?

TerrysNo2 · 18/10/2011 19:02

Just about to buy my wool, are there any colours which have been used a lot / not so much, if you know then I can buy something different.

Thanks Smile

GhoulishGlendaFestersAgain · 18/10/2011 19:05

Thankyou to my mystery wool donor, it arrived todaySmile

FYI, searching on ravelry for dishcloths, with filters for Square and Free brings up lots of possible suitable patterns, just check they seem to be around the right amount of stitches.

FabbyChic · 18/10/2011 19:18

Put myself forward to do some knitting on the last one, but the person who was supposed to send the wool never did.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 18/10/2011 19:49

Evening everyone Smile

Really well done to you lovely Knotty this is for you Wine and I would also give you chocolate if I had it, that is such a lot of work. Fab-U-Lous. As LadyW would say starry starriness all around Thanks

Thzumbazombiewitch - desperately sad, another tragedy Sad too many people are being lost too soon Sad Life is scarily fragile, for sure. Sad Sad

greenzebra - I'm glad you contacted them, they are very helpful. Today I had a ball of wool delivered here to send on, and it was ordered on October 9th from Cucumberpatch, but only got here today, even being posted first class.

TerrysNo2 - Pmd you, but I think you've got that message already

GhoulishGlendaFestersAgain - Good news.......

FabbyChic - Have Pm'd you, let me know! Smile
TheRealMBJ - have also PM'd you...

-What a treat I had today_
Two gorgeoise woolly wool parcels. You are so bloomin clever you two, absolutely lovely squares from Umami and PurpleKnittingMum I do not know how you learn to do stuff like this! But Thanks Thanks to you both.

I have managed to squeeze a third square out of my little ball of wool with one gram to spare. They are only plain knitted squares but I love them just the same, much as one loves their children, they may not look like the ones you see in catalogues but you made them yourself and to you they are beautiful and perfect :)

Skinnymuffin how beautifully put.

Knotty hats off - can't wait to see a photo.

Pistey Three squares done, some sewing on of leaves on the third square and pesky ends to deal with.

Thumb Sad

androbbob · 18/10/2011 22:54

2nd square nearly completed! If I get time I will do another one, but I think I will post this weekend so not stressed over half term Grin

TerrysNo2 · 18/10/2011 23:43

Just before I buy my wool (I know I said that earlier but then had parents evening and dinner Blush), does anyone have any left over which they won't have time to knit? If so do they want to post it to me, happy to pay P&P and contribution. Just not sure if I will have time to do a whole ball and don't like waste!

PM me if so, otherwise I am going to the local knitting shop tomorrow to buy some or online.

Thanks Smile

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 06:42

Morning. Smile Is is Friday yet?

skinnymuffin - you have every right to be proud of your squares - well done Thanks

octopusinabox - I tried moss stitch. I failed Grin Is it the same as seed stitch? Only I looked on youtube for a lady to show me how, and even that made me Confused What I don't understand and there is discrepancy on this, I understand you do knit one purl one all the way across the row, but when you get onto row two, does a knit stitch sit on top of a knit stitch, and purl on top of purl, or do they sit on top of the other one? Do they alternate across and up the square. I'm not explaining it very well I think. Too early. Zzzzzzzz

androbbob - you are going well too, marvellissimo!

TerrysNo2 - REally sorry, I don't have enough here for a square to pass on to you. Hope you get some of the woolly wool stuff sorted today though.

Is anyone still waiting for wool? I know about Duchesse, we will find out there tomorrow, but PM me if it still hasn't arrived. Thanks

As usual, back at lunchtime Brew Cheers!

Pisty regarding moss-stitch, when you get to the second (and subsequent) rows a purl sits on top of a purl and a knit on top of a knit. So if you end a row with a knit stitch, you start the next row with a knit stitch. Simple and very effectiveSmile

KnottyLocks · 19/10/2011 07:31

Pistey, forget about what stitch should sit on top, blah de blahdy blah. You need an odd number of stitches and, as TheRealMBJ says, if you end with a knit, you start the next row with a knit. Seasy Grin

TerryNo2 - we never waste wool! We ask people to include leftovers. It's used for stitching blankets together, edging, flowers, more squares. It gets used.

And no it's not Friday yet. Boo.

I edged half of the blanket last night but don't like it so I'll try again this evening. [Fussy mare]

Whenisitmysleepytime · 19/10/2011 09:38

I've finished my squares too! :)
One with a heart shape, one with a flower and one with 3 stripes of plain knit, stocking stitch, and plain knit again. It was meant to be plain knit but then I randomly started purling! Hmm

If the dc both sleep after supermarket shop then I'll parcel them up.

Whenisitmysleepytime · 19/10/2011 09:42

Oh and deramores has 10% off all Debbie bliss wool till 25th if anyone's looking. Their deliver is fast too.

Thzumbazombiewitch · 19/10/2011 10:06

How does it work with the blanket threads - do people ask the bereaved people first if they would like one and then start a new thread? I don't know the protocol, beyond noticing that someone has lost a loved one.

Thanks all round to everyone for sterling work on the squares! :)

TerrysNo2 · 19/10/2011 11:10

I am pleased to hear there is no waste, environmentally friendly knitters, you lot are right up my street Grin

I will buy some today and get knitting when it arrives - that will give me time to finish mine and DS's gloves tonight as we both have one cold hand Smile

SoupDragon · 19/10/2011 12:10

Not sure how blankets work... Before offering you need to have volunteers for organising and sewing up in place.

rubycon · 19/10/2011 12:15

I posted mine off this morning.

Georgimama · 19/10/2011 12:31

My wool has arrived from cucumberpatch - thank you to my donor (who has the initials AM).

RatherBeOnThePiste · 19/10/2011 13:29

Just popping in to say that in my limited experience of blanket making, a MNetter has approached Pidj and asked if a blanket could be made for another MNetter. This is what happened for the current project. I then approached Chip indirectly through this other MNetter. Once the family came back on it, and said they would like to receive one, we moved forward and started the thread.

I have already said to Knotty that I would be very happy to do the admin again if another blanket were to come up. Sad But I fully acknowledge that this is very much the lesser part of any blanket. The actual construction is a massive job. Huge. Don't underestimate it! Knotty will be here later and will be able to add more I'm sure.

I'm not home yet but will be in a bit for the PMs

Thanks

Home now Brew sadly no Biscuit Keep thinking it's Thursday though, and not sure why Confused

TerrysNo2 - for goodness sake finish your gloves! It was fffrrrriiizzzzzzzziiin this morning when I went to work, cold hands are miserable.

Georgimama - marvellous news, you can crack on now Grin

PMs to Whenisitmysleepytime, Thzumbazombiewitch and Soupy

Rubycon I look forward to receiving your square
And at Whenisitmysleepytime randomly purling Grin

Thank you Knotty and TheRealMBJ - I shall give moss stitch a whirl. I am now the proud owner of two pairs of 4mm knitting needles, so can chop and change between things, which may well mean I never finish anything Blush My current square I'm not sure about, it's very Jack Wills ish and a bit lairy I'm trying three colours in stripes, and I'm not convinced I haven't over gilded the lily somewhat. Also more blooming pesky ends as a consequence of more colours. You live and learn.
